simple verbs to start the conversation process.
GEOGRAPHICAL FACT~
Korean is the official language of both the Republic of Korea (South Korea)
and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea),
which have a total combined population of around 73 million (50 million in the South and 23 million in the North)
SIMPLE VERBS - Used in everyday Korean~
TO BE/TO EXIST
이다
(I-Da)
이에요: VS 예요:
[I-Eh-Yo] [Ye-Yo]
This is the 'to be' or 'to exist response in 존대말
You put this at the end of a sentence.
* Whats the difference?
The meaning is the same however, you use both at different times.
이에요 is used when the proceeding word ends in a consonant. 예요 is used when the proceeding word ends in a vowel.
Example:
이에요
사랑이에요
(Sa-Lang I-Eh-Yo)
Love To Be/To Exist
It is love
예요
커피예요
(Keo-Pi Ye-Yo)
Coffee To Be/To Exist (formal)
It is coffee

This is the 'to be' or 'to exist response in 존대말

입니다 is used when the proceeding word ends in a consonant. ㅂ니다 is used when the proceeding word ends in a vowel.

To make any of these negative, just put the 아니 or 안 in front of the verb!

So let's review today's lesson.
There are four ways to say To Be/To Exist.
Two of them are very formal and two of them are simply formal.
The simply formal ones are:
이에요 is used when the proceeding word ends in a consonant. 예요 is used when the proceeding word ends in a vowel.
The very formal ones are:
입니다 is used when the proceeding word ends in a consonant. -ㅂ니다 is used when the proceeding word ends in a vowel.
To make this negative, just put in front of it: 아니
