Chapter 7

Gone

Chapter 7

It was midnight, coming to 1 AM. Everyone in the dorm was asleep, everyone except Dongho that is. He was sitting at his desk, bent over a book and scribbling furiously in it. Reading through its contents once more, before closing it and sliding it into his pillowcase, satisfied with what he had written.

He lay back down on his bed, pulling the covers up to his chin. Turning over and smiling at the neighbouring bed, he blew a flying kiss. "Night, Soohyun hyung."

~

Eli staggered out of his and Kiseop's room, running a hand through his messy bed hair. Their schedule and preparations for their comeback added more burden to his already stressful life, and his insomnia wasn't helping him at all. So now, he was up at this ungodly hour, trying all ways possible to sleep. As he walked past Dongho's room, he noticed light leaking out from under the door. Strange. Why would the maknae be up so late? Eli decided to get a drink first, bothering about Dongho could wait.

Sleepily, he poured himself a glass of milk, closing the fridge door and heading back . On the way, he pushed open Dongho's door and glanced inside, slightly less worried now that the light had been switched off. His heart clenched painfully as he saw the maknae blowing a kiss to the empty bed beside him. His expression was so sweet, so innocent...

Eli stood there, watching as Dongho finally fell asleep, his lips curved into a slight smile. Idly, he wondered what Dongho was dreaming about. Most likely Soohyun. Closing the door silently, he continued on his way, drinking from the now-warm milk even though he wasn't tasting it at all.

He scorned Kevin for being too cowardly for not telling Dongho the truth, getting frustrated when the other members did the same because of Kevin, but really, he was just the same on the inside. All these times, when he restrained himself, it was because inwardly, he knew Kevin's words were true.

~

Eli sat at the kitchen table, watching as Dongho ate his breakfast and rushed his homework at the same time.

"Dongho ah~ Hurry, we're going to be late!" Kevin called from the living room, where he and Kiseop were waiting.

"Yeah yeah, hold on..." Dongho stuffed a piece of bread into his mouth, chewing on it and making crumbs fall out from his mouth and onto his paper. Lucky for him, Xander was still sleeping, or he would have gotten nagged at by the umma for his table manners.

"What were you doing last night?" Eli suddenly asked.

Dongho glanced up, then back down at his paper. "What do you mean?"

"I saw you in your room late last night. You were doing something." Eli continued, observing the younger boy scribbling answers hurriedly in his untidy handwriting.

"What's guitarist in English and how do you spell it?" Dongho murmured with a mouthful of bread, purposely ignoring Eli's question.

"Guitarist. G U I T A R I S T. Don't change the subject."

"I... Um... I was doing homework."

"It's not possible to have so much homework that you can be doing it all night and yet still have to rush the next morning, right?" Eli said shortly, watching Dongho's reaction. Dongho just frowned, gathering his papers together and shoving his pen into his pocket. "Kevin hyung, let's go!" He hurried out of the kitchen before Eli could interrogate him anymore. The older boy rolled his eyes and followed after, making a mental note to search his room later after school.

~

Dongho was hunched over his notebook again after school. Finishing off a sentence, he pushed the book over to Soohyun. "Hyung, how is it?"

Scanning through it quickly, Soohyun nodded, "Mmm, it's okay."

"Just okay?" Dongho pouted, taking the book back. "I stayed up late and got scolded by Eli hyung for this and you say it's okay? Not even awesome?"

"You know I don't mean it that way... But why are you writing this in the first place?"

Dongho hugged Soohyun tightly, burying his face into the elder's warm chest. "I'm writing our story, hyung. I'm writing it out, so that I can decide what happens next."

He heard his name being called from outside the room, and like what had been happening recently, Soohyun started to fade away. Faded away, until Dongho's arms just closed around thin air. Tears fell, as he turned back to the book, continuing his writing with a shaky hand. "I'm writing it so that you won't leave me again. So that... So that we can have a happy ending..."
