Chapter 24: Rescued

Hye-Ri's POV:

It had been 2 days, or maybe it had been 3? Hye-Ri had lost count a long time ago. She was living in this so-called paradise called The Sakura for what seemed like forever. There had been no sign of the police ever coming to find out about the past police officers or for her. Hye-Ri felt alone, all day she just looked at screens, watching poker, blackjack, and the other card games. That's all she did, and she wasn't even good at it anymore. She couldn't find the cheaters. Her father thought it was her trying to play a trick on him, but honestly it wasn't. She just couldn't do it anymore. For whatever reason that was Hye-Ri did not know. All she knew was that she didn't care. What did she need the gift for anyway?

"Hye-Ri your food is here." Mr.Kang says bringning in a tray of food, if that's what you could call it. It was a piece of hard, stale bread with a bowl of watered down potatoe soup. Hye-Ri missed the days when TOP was her bodyguard/caretaker. He had never really cared what Hye-Ri ate, and had just gotten her what she wanted when she asked. TOP had been nice. Not that Mr.Kang wasn't it was just that he wasn't as easy to talk to.

"Thank you." Hye-Ri said, taking the bread and nibbling it. She was thankful for Mr.Kang, he was someone to talk to. Even though he ignored her most of the time, and told her to shut up sometimes whens he got really chatty she was still appreciative of him. Even though he didn't say it, she knew he listened and she knew he felt bad for her. You could see it in his eyes, and Hye-Ri hoped to use that to her advantage.

 "Come with me." Mr.Kang told her one afternoon after she had eaten her usual one bread and watery soup. Hye-Ri reluctantly follows him, as he leads her up the stairs out of the cellar and into the light. Even though they both had not reached the outside yet, Hye-Ri still shielded her eyes from the light. 

"How long has it been?" Hye-Ri asks. "A couple.." Mr.Kang answers. "A couple what?" Hye-Ri asks, "Days? Weeks? Months?" "A couple weeks." Mr.Kang answers. "What? I thought it was longer!" Mr.Kang just sighs and continues to lead her away from the cellar.

"Where are we going Mr.Kang?" Hye-Ri asks. "To the outside?" Mr.Kang responds. Hye-Ri's eyes widen in response. "What? The outside?" Did he finally give in? Is he going to set me free? Suddenly the sound of gunshots were heard from the far left corner of the hallway. Mr.Kang quickly pushed me into a suppl
