Same Old Routine

All a Lie

Jiyong woke up with his alarm clock screaming at him. He lazily lifted up his arm only to have it smack down on that snooze button, shutting up that blaring noise. He groaned into his pillow as he tried to force myself up from his warm cozy bed. After many attempts, he finally set his feet on the cold hardwood floor. He rubbed his eyes as he walked towards the door in nothing but his boxers, heading for the bathroom. Catching something at from the corner of his eyes, he paused. Slowly turning his head, he saw a girl wearing an over sized shirt dress sitting on the couch, smiling at me.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” he groaned into his hands as he stormed towards Seungri’s room. There, Jiyong saw him buckling up his belt and looked up at him.

                “Oh, hey hyu—“

“What the hell, Seungri? What the is she doing here?” he angrily pointed behind himself, towards the woman in the living room.

                “Don’t you remember her? That’s –“

“I know who she is Seungri! What I don’t understand is why she’s here! Need I remind you that today is your anniversary? With your girlfriend!” he hissed through his teeth while Seungri just calmly brushed off his anger.

Seungri continued to get ready, putting on his sports coat.  “Chill hyung. I’m not going to cancel on her today. You don’t need to be the errand boy tonight,” he said as he put on his watch. “I’ll be bringing her home today.”

Jiyong feigned a laugh at him. “So you can her on that bed like how you ed countless other girls?” Seungri stopped fixing his clothes and looked at him.

“What’s wrong with you? Why are you suddenly angry at me? It’s not like this is the first time,” he went back to fixing his collar.

Jiyong shook his head and tried to keep in his anger. Finding a pile of clothes on the foot of his bed, he grabbed it and walked out of Seungri’s room.  He threw the clothes at the girl, not even caring if he hit her in the face. “Get out,” he harshly hissed. She looked at him shocked, “Jiyo—“

“Get out!” he yelled as he pointed towards the door. Mumbling profanities, she stood up and walked towards the door, slowly getting dressed. Jiyong could hear Seungri sending her off with an apology and his anger only boiled up. Once he heard the door shut, Jiyong headed towards his room, not in the mood to face Seungri again.

                “Hyung!” he called after him.

“I’m not your ing errand boy anymore, Seungri! I’m done!” Jiyong yelled at him. “I’m so sick of the way you treat her and I’m not going to be apart of it any longer!” Seungri looked at him shocked, not used to his hyung yelling at him that way; especially not about how he should treat his girlfriend.

“What are you saying? She knew from the start that –“

“If she knew that you would go back to this kind of habit, do you think she would even go out with you?” he yelled. “She never trusted you to be more than just a friend but you convinced her otherwise. Now after just two years of dating you’re back to that old disgusting habit!” he turned his back, walking into his room and slamming the door.

Jiyong stopped talking to him. Even to her. He had buried himself in his work, not wanting to deal with either of them. He had said that he was done being Seungri’s errand boy and he had stopped talking to the both of them. She would occasionally call and text him, but he ignored it, forcing to distance him self away from her. He told himself that this would be the only way he’d be able to handle the situation he let Seungri force him into.

He hadn’t realized that he worked himself until dinner, not even having anything to eat the whole day. He looked through the cupboards to see if there was anything to eat and found nothing. He sighed as he took his phone out planning on calling for delivery, when he heard a knock on the door. Curious, he headed for the door and opened it, seeing her holding up plastic bags full of take out boxes. Jiyong couldn’t help but smile at how adorable she looked.

                “Hi,” she greeted him.

“Hey,” Jiyong said, welcoming her in. He closed the door behind them as she made herself at home.

Taking out plates and utensils, she set the table for the both of them. He leaned against the door frame and crossed his arms, admiring her once again. It would be a lie if he said he didn’t miss her a lot. Missing her was an understatement. He felt as if the time she wasn’t around, a part of him was missing. He was so used to having her around that he forgot what it was like to be alone.

“Have you been ignoring me?” she looked up from taking out the boxes from the plastic.

Jiyong snapped out of his daze. “Huh?”

“Did I do something Jiyong?” she had a worried look on her face. “It just feels like you’re avoiding me, that’s all.”

He shook his head. “Of course not,” he lied. He made my way to the table and sat down in front of one of the plates she had prepared. “How did you know I was hungry?” he tried to lighten up the mood. She giggled something he had been yearning to hear.

“I don’t know, lucky guess,” she smiled and sat down in front of him. They then started to catch up. Jiyong hadn’t realized how much they missed from each other’s lives just after three weeks of not communicating. He intently listened to her him about how things were going with her job, old friends she had caught up with and the likes. He couldn’t help but be completely immersed in her once again.

After eating their meal, they had moved themselves from the kitchen to the living room.  “So, what brings you here?” he had to ask. From his knowledge, she was supposed to be out with Seungri in some fancy restaurant after bailing on their anniversary.

“Seungri rescheduled on me again and since I hadn’t seen you in a long time, I decided why not visit my best friend,” she smiled at him as she sat down on the couch. Those words hit him like a million tiny needles. Best friend. “Actually,” she said, grabbing a pillow from the corner of the couch. “I need someone to talk to.”

Jiyong sat down at the end of the couch, just a couple inches away from her. “About what?” he asked, his heart palpitating. She swallowed and looked down, biting her lip.

“I-It’s about Seungri,” she looked over at him. “I don’t know if I can continue waiting for him. I mean, when we first started going out it was amazing. He was like a totally changed person. But now…” her voice faded. Now, it was Jiyong’s turn to swallow the lump that formed in his throat. He didn’t know how to tell her that Seungri was back to his old routine, dating and flirting with other girls. “I know he went through a lot to just get me to be his girlfriend but—Now, it’s like I’m his door mat. I feel like I’m always second place to whatever he’s doing. I mean, I don’t even know what he’s doing anymore,” she sighed. Jiyong could see the conflict in her and he just couldn’t bring himself up to tell her the truth.

“Have you guys been able to talk together? Alone?” he asked, trying to come up with something to talk about their situation. She shook her head and sighed.

“He’s either always busy or there’s someone there with us,” she looked at her fingers, fiddling with it on her lap. He was about to say something else when they heard the door open. Seungri then came in looking exhausted and put his suitcase down. Looking up, he was taken back to find his girlfriend on the couch.

“Babe, what are you doing here?” he asked, genuinely surprised.

She pursed her lips and just shrugged. “Well, my so called boyfriend bailed on me for the millionth time so I decided to come here and hang out with Ji,” she said, glancing over at Jiyong. He decided that this was as good as any time to leave them alone, to talk about any issues that they need to discuss.

“Uh, I’m just going to go out for a bit. Give you two some alone time,” he said standing up from the couch, heading to his room to get some things. Jiyong heard someone shuffle behind him and turned around to find Seungri with a worried look.

                “Hyung, you didn’t –“

“Don’t worry,” Jiyong reassured him. “I didn’t tell her anything. If she was to hear about it, it should be from you,” he glared at Seungri before grabbing some things off his dresser and leaving. She waved at Jiyong and he just bitterly smiled, waving back at her.
