Chapter 7: Reunited

Unbreakable

Kyuhyun didn't even need to break it to him. Donghae lay there for a moment, staring at the open front door, the empty, oversized house.

Hyukjae... oh no.

It all came flooding back and he had to squeeze his eyes shut to prevent the moisture from escaping in front of his oldest friend.

"It'll get better Don-" Kyuhyun tried to comfort awkwardly as if Donghae wasn't currently sobbing into his thigh at the moment. Honestly he was use to the proceedure by now , calm Donghae down and put him into some kind of recovery position so that he didn't injure himself, but honestly he was never good at dealing with emotions.

"It won't." Donghae groaned optimistically, snotting no doubt all over Kyu's new black jeans. "I have nothing. No ones ever going to want someone like me." Donghae whispered, knowing his condition was too high maintanance and he could hardly do a number of things that would suffice as being a good boyfriend.

Looking at him now sure Donghae wasn't desirable, he had tears and blood running down the side of his face and certainly looked a sorry state. But there were plenty of things that Donghae had going for him... and Kyuhyun could name too many of them for it to be considered normal.

"She left me." Donghae whispered with a detached, distance look in his eyes, turning his shimmering brown eyes over in Kyuhyun's direction and gave him a pitifully exaggerated pout. "H-hyuk left me." He murmured and although Kyuhyun wanted to point out that really the monkey wasn't the one driving the car to the zoo he settled for scolding him instead, the only thing he could do.

"Have i left you? No, so get your sorry off the floor so i can stick some sort of plaster to your damn head Lee Donghae." He told him, trying to shove him off his lap because he was starting to get a dead leg and a weary heart.

---

After a couple of hours of Donghae still sat brooding and sniffling to himself Kyuhyun sighed, considering leaving just to avoid the puppy dog eyes that Donghae kept shooting him.

"What?" He finally cracked, sprawled out on the spare sofa, staying just in case Donghae decided to take another turn for the worst again.

"I want Hyukkie back...." He whimpered, burying his face into the nearest pillow and sighing to himself.

"We could get you a dog..."

"NO i want Hyukjae."

"You could name it Hyuk-" Donghae's miraculously good aim shut Kyuhyun up by smacking a pillow into his teeth.

Kyuhyun sighed, he hated to be harsh on Donghae, really he knew he should go easy on the guy after what he'd just been through but he'd known Donghae long enough that he could only hope to get his life back on track.

"Hae... to truly let go of her, you have to let go of everything about her too. Whether he drove her away or not Hyukjae was part of your relationship together and so he's stopping you from moving on. Without him, you can.. er." Clearing his throat he just smiled. "Find someone else... and because of that, Hyukjae is back in a place that he belongs, with other monkeys, just like you need to be around other humans Donghae." He told him giving Donghae an encouraging pat as he stood up and shoved his phone back into his pocket.

"Don't go smashing your head on anything else okay." He muttered. "And Hae..."

Donghae, distracted in his own thoughts tilted his head back to look at an upside down Kyuhyun. "Mmm?"

"Never mind... ring me if you need anything." He told him, swinging the door shut behind him.

Three Seconds for Kyuhyun to walk down the driveway. Equally three seconds for Donghae to jump off the couch.

The ten seconds it took for Kyuhyun to start his car and pull away from the drive was long enough for Donghae to shrug his coat on and pocket his keys.
Twenty seconds of breathless silence to make sure that Kyu was well and truly gone down the road.

A minute was all it really took for Donghae to be in the car and in the reckless car journey back down a road of Deja vu.

Please don't be closed... please don't be closed.

Donghae swerved like a crazy physco past all the cars that were already trailing out of the zoo gates.

Tae ing Min you better still be here, he thought, well aware that people were giving him a wide berth when he stepped out of the car, cheeks still tainted with dried tears and a massive bandage looped around his forehead.

He was well aware that his elbows shoved mercilessly a couple of innocent passers by in the stomach a few times, but trying to swim his way through a bunch of lazy tourists that were already heading home was a slow process.

"Sir please make your way to the exit." Someone called and he partially growled at them in response. Desperate. He had to get himself halfway over to the other side of the zoo, and he was already feeling unsteady on his feet, although he knew he wasn't about to relapse into another epileptic fit, he still felt weak and confused and wasn't entirely sure whether this was just some weird dream and he was really just thrashing around in his bed.

"Hyukkie!" He called frantically, the frown that creased his forehead shot straight through the aching cut near his temple. Any other day Donghae would have been able to decipher Hyukjae from the rest but his vision was blurring and as he swooped his eyes over the trees he couldn't make him out. Maybe he'd made the wrong choice... maybe disturbing Hyukjae now was the wrong choice.

Maybe he didn't want to come home with him.

He let out a sad, watery smile at the image of Hyukjae prancing around with all the baby monkeys of the group. It was a bitter idea that actually made him happy, yet physically drained to admit that Kyuhyun was right.

Hyukjae did belong among his own kind.

He should just go home.

Staggering back down now empty pathways he stopped, clenching his fists against his sides. Despite his promise he knew he'd never visit this zoo again... it hurt too much. He was just bad at letting go of things, he always had been. He needed to learn it the hard way.

Swallowing away the anxiety lingering in the pit of his throat he took one last look over his shoulder, air slipping past his lips.

"Hyuk!" He murmured, eyes falling upon an undoubtedly soft form, curled up with his back pressed against the gate. Unable to help himself he ran, knotting his fingers through the fence. "Hyukjae... Hyukkie!"

He called over to him, trying to squeeze his arms through the fence, for what good that would do.

The small monkey stirred, rolling around onto his feet, his disinterested eyes flickering over in Hae's direction. For a heart stopping moment, Donghae found this all ridiculous. Hyukjae didn't recognize him, Hyukjae was doing better than he was.

Hyukjae's forehead was bleeding.

Touching his own hand to the left side of his head, wincing when his fingers met the bandage that was currently stopping him from bleeding all over the place.

He couldn't help but smile, despite being anxious about the fact that his Hyukjae was bleeding.

"Don't worry, its just part of the induction process." A sweet voice rang behind him and Donghae was tempted to turn around and ring Taemin's neck right there.

"They've hurt him Taemin." He said calmly, rattling the gate with determined frustration. "Open it." He whispered, seeing the hesitation on Taemin's face as his hand hovered over the radio he had clipped onto his pocket. "Hyun-" He started knowing it was a lost cause to try and explain to him how it would be better for the monkey to stay here.

"He needs me Taemin." He told him. I need him...

Making a point to point out that he hadn't signed any papers so that meant that really, Hyukjae wasn't even suppose to be in that enclosure in the first place.
Taemin soon caved and Donghae was practically itching to get his hands on the pet that he didn't realize he had missed so much.

Bouncing anxiously on the balls of his feet as they crossed the bridge to the Capuchin island and Taemin started unlocking the gate. Hae's eyes were burning into his back with reckless determination, ready to shove him out the way if he even showed signs of changing his mind.

Unaware that he was beaming until he felt his lips twitch against his hand he dropped to his knees, embracing the monkey that was bounding towards him and curling himself insecurely around his neck, donghae's breath tickling the fur on top of Hyuk's head as he nuzzled himself into the side of his neck.
Hyukjae was making soft almost distressed bleating noises in the back of his throat as his fingers brushed over Donghae's bandage without looking up at it.

"I will never leave you again Hyuk."

"...Eeeeeh."
