Chapter 25

“I was thinking about…” I pause for a dramatic effect. Kris moved closer to the table and looks at me with wide eyes. I look down, “I was thinking about… how good THIS EEL IS!!” I grab another piece of eel and shoved it in my mouth. I looked at Kris, who had that ‘I-know-she’s-not-serious’ look on his face. I smiled at him and swallowed the little piece of eel I grabbed.

He kept his eyes on me, “Really?”

I shrugged my shoulders, “You wanted to know so I told you.” I smiled again. Kris looked at me, with the same expression, and then started to smile.

“Okay, I gotcha’.” He began to eat with me, “Your wit… It makes me like you more.”

*Did he say he liked me?!* I cleared my throat, “What do you mean by that?”

“Well,” he initiated, “I knew there was something about you when I first saw you in the break room.” He put down his chopsticks and looked directly at me, “I knew we were going to be-”

“Bre? Is that really you?”

Chapter 26

“She’s in the best of hands. Don’t worry.” I looked at Kris and he smiled at me and stretched his hand across the table. *Does he want me to…* I put my hand out and he held it. He rubbed the back of my hand with his thumb, as if he was telling me not to fear anything. 

I looked back to find him looking at mine and Kris’ hand on the table. He had that same look I did minutes ago. *Not a good feeling, huh?*
