Hyunseung sighed as he walked out the school gates. It was well past the time for students to leave the grounds; but, Hyunseung had stayed behind to study. He had to study hard in order to maintain his scholarship to the school. You see, his family had always been very poor and couldn’t afford to send him to a good school. Because of this, Hyunseung always felt that he had to do the best that he could in order to support his family. He worked very hard and got a scholarship to one of the best schools in the country. He now held the top ranking in his school.

Hyunseung sighed once again as he pushed his dark brown hair out of his face and fixed his thick rimmed glasses. He then reached up and straightened his tie and wiped the imaginary dust off his uniform. Because of his looks and his grades, Hyunseung got bullied in school a lot. He didn’t take it to heart though; he knew that they were just jealous that he was the number one student in their school.

What did hurt him however, was the fact that because of his looks and grades, no one in the school would talk to him. He didn’t have a single friend in school. He didn’t understand how he could go to school every day and never have a word spoken to him by another student.

Hyunseung walked down the dark streets towards his home. He lived only a few short blocks from the school so he didn’t mind walking to and from school every day. He walked until he came to a run down looking apartment building that looked like it was going to fall apart any minute. He began walking up the familiar stairs, ignoring the random holes and warping in them. Once he reached the third floor, he turned to the left and walked down the hallway before turning to face his door. He pulled his key out of his pocket and opened the door.

“I’m home.” He called out, knowing that no one would answer. He moved into the city on his own when he got the scholarship so his parents wouldn’t have to give up their jobs. So now, Hyunseung was living by himself in a cheap apartment.

Hyunseung sighed once again as he closed and locked the door before laying his keys on the table, flipping on the light switch. He walked down the old, creaky hallway to his bedroom. He didn’t even turn the light on as he threw his bag down on the floor and fell on his bed, face down. He stayed like that for several moments before he turned his head to the side and stared blankly at the hole in his wall.

He didn’t move until he heard his phone start ringing. He waited until the third ring before he reached his hand into his pocket and pulled out his phone.

“Hi, Umma.” Hyunseung answered, “Yes. No. No. Yes. Okay. Okay. I love you, too. Good night. Bye.” He snapped his phone shut with another sigh, dropping it on his bed. His mother called him every night and asked him the same questions. He didn’t mind though, he enjoyed hearing from his mother every day, knowing that they were safe. Hyunseung dragged his hand across his face before standing up and walking to the bathroom for a shower.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

An arm appeared from under the blue comforter and slammed down on the offending item, stopping the sound. A groan was heard as the body beneath the blanket stretched, his arms and feet appearing. After a few more seconds the body emerged from the blankets and stood from the bed, walking to the bathroom.

Hyunseung sighed as he stepped into the shower, letting the water pound into his stiff muscles. He was still half asleep as he stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist. With another sigh he dragged his feet back to his room as he began putting on his school uniform. Taking his sweet time, he finished getting ready before picking up his cell phone, putting it in his pocket, and sliding his backpack over his shoulder. Skipping breakfast, he stepped out the front door, locking it, and walking in the direction of the school.

Hyunseung entered the school grounds well before any of the other students were to arrive. He had learned the hard way that if he came at the same time as the other students, they would go out of their way to bully him. He learned that if he got to school early, he could wait in the classroom; then, the other kids wouldn’t bother him as much.

Hyunseung sat at his desk finishing up the homework from yesterday. Other students had just started to arrive as he closed his books. The halls were starting to fill with teens running around, talking and laughing. The young boy sitting in the room ignored all the noises and laid his head on his folded arms, trying to get a little nap in before class started.

Hyunseung had just started to slip into unconsciousness when a loud squeal echoed through the halls. He didn’t even lift his head because he knew what the screams were for. They were there. They were the ones that bullied him the most out of everybody. They were the kingkas of the school. They were the ones that every guy wanted to be and every girl wanted to be with. They ran this school and everybody loved them. Everyone except him.

Hyunseung sighed as he pushed his head farther into his arms, trying to hide from the world. He just wanted one day where he didn’t have to deal with being bullied. One day! Was that too much to ask for?

“Hey, nerd.” I guess so.

Hyunseung didn’t answer as he pretended to be sleeping, though his body had tensed as soon as the voice spoke up. He listened as the person walked closer until finally they stood directly in front of his desk. Suddenly he felt a hand on the back of his head, gripping his hair and jerking his head up eliciting a cry from his mouth as he met the eyes of his attacker.

“When someone is talking to you, it is polite to answer them.” Junhyung smirked as his gripped tightened even more, pulling several hairs from the boy’s scalp. Hyunseung’s eyes looked over towards the doorway to see that a crowd had formed to watch the bullying act. Several of the other students were laughing at his misfortune while the other ones were just looking on with blank looks, not caring. He turned his eyes back to his attacker and just waited for the bullying to stop.

Junhyung’s smirk then turned into a sneer. “Why don’t you just leave this school and go back to where you came from? No one wants you here. Everybody hates you. We’d all be better off if you would just disappear.” Once he was finished talked he pushed Hyunseung out of his chair and to the floor. He then pushed all his books onto the floor with him.

“Oops.” Junhyung laughed mockingly as he walked out of the room with the rest of BEAST, the rest of the students laughing and following him.

Hyunseung waited until all the students had left before he stood up from the floor. ‘Why does he go out of his way to torture me like this? What good does it do him? Why me?’ He thought as he picked up his books. He sighed as he sat back at his desk as students started filling the room and waited for the teacher to come so class could start.
