Mentally Inapt

Love In Different Forms

Donghae stumbled through the entrance of the hospital with his hand in Hyukjae's as they were met with the familiar sight of bare white walls, the smell of isopropyl alcohol, and nurses scurrying around trying to tend to their current patients.

The drive from the townhouse to the hospital was silent throughout, but Eunhyuk's head was filled with running thoughts as well as numerous questions.

Is he okay? What's wrong with him? I think he's still hungry...

He found himself worrying about the strange younger that had showed up at his doorstep even though they've only know each other for awhile.

No matter what the circumstances were, Donghae was still under his care due to the fact that he'd decided to take him in earlier and watch for him instead of informing the local police.

Even through all the outlandish moments of this evening, Hyukjae couldn't help but feel some emotion toward the latter, simply because he was so...alluring.

The quiet natured personality the man had somehow matched and reflected off of the older's.

It was peculiar, usually people say opposites attract, but in this case, similars attract.

The clash of personalities had began to bring out some empathy from Eunhyuk toward Donghae. Usually there was a reason people kept as quiet as him and the younger, and he could just sense that something had happened to the the latter.

Eunhyuk had kept a close watch on Donghae the entire way, not wanting anything to happen to the male on the drive there.

"Excuse me noona, we need a specialist, someone who deals with speech. A person who could help bring down a slight fever could be of help also." Hyukjae said calmly to the woman sitting behind the front counter with a bulky, beeping computer placed before her.

She typed a few keys on the noisy keyboard before turning her head to the side to face the two males.

"Alright, we'll place you in the room just above this floor. When you step out of the elevator, turn right and it'll be the first door you see. Would you mind me asking for the name of the patient?" she voiced before focusing her attention back on the screen and typing briskly, slamming her fingers on the keyboard.

Eunhyuk glanced behind him at the shivering figure, Donghae's hands clutching the back his shirt tightly, hiding behind the older as if afraid something might jump out at him.

He looked close to the point of passing out.

"Lee Donghae..." Eunhyuk trailed off after a few seconds of staring at the younger.

The room they were sent into was bare and plain with no trace of personal photos or memorables posted anywhere. It was like anyone could've owned the room, from a high school student to a specialist.

Eunhyuk swept Donghae up from his feet and lied his body down onto the covered bed in the center of the room. The younger weakly closed his eyes, batting his eyelashes in a fight to stay awake but to no avail. Hyukjae pulled the covers over his form before turning around to be met with a well-built doctor with slick black hair and deep double eyelids.

"Good evening. I'm doctor Choi Siwon and you must be...Mr. Lee's cousin?" the doctor asked, extending a hand for the blonde to shake.

"Umm...well...friend." Eunhyuk complied before extending his own hand, contently shaking the other's.

He wasn't sure of what to call Donghae yet, though he certainly wasn't a stranger now, so he stuck with the title of 'friend' even though he knew exactly nothing about him.

"Okay, let's get started here."

Dr. Siwon began by placing his hand on Donghae's forehead, feeling the alarming warmth that radiated from the younger's body.

The doctor pulled out a stethoscope from inside the pocket of his scrubs quickly and placed the metal circle on the smaller's chest, watching it rise and fall on and uneven beat.

Then, upon difficulty from hearing under the layered cloth, the doctor gently pulled the blankets off of Donghae before carefully taking the patient's shirt off and bringing the scope down on his bare chest. The younger's breaths were short and rigid.

Suddenly, the doctor removed the stethoscope from his ears and exited the room.

He came back with a bowl of water and a cotton face towel, soaking the material under the water and wringing it out before placing it on his patient's forehead.

Donghae shifted uncomfortably before relaxing under his touch.

"I'll wait for him to wake up before giving him something to help bring the fever down, he's developed signs of the early stages of pneumonia." the doctor informed while staring at the patient's form.

Eunhyuk felt bad knowing the younger let his fever go out of control. He looked so young and helpless, a kid with no ambitions.

Slowly, Donghae began to move on the bed, shifting his position from side to side before opening his eyes and looking up at the doctor, bewildered.

"Are you okay Mr. Lee?" Siwon asked, carefully putting a hand lightly on his patient's arm.

The latter nodded slowly, keeping that same look of confusion on his face.

"My name is doctor Choi Siwon. Please just relax and take it easy."

Dr. Siwon then turned around and rummaged through the cabinets lined up neatly throughout the four walls around his room.

Finally, he pulled out an orange capsule and opened it, spilling two white pills onto the palm of his hand. He grabbed a water bottle from the fridge he had in the room before walking back over to Donghae and kneeling down meeting his eyes.

He propped the pills into Donghae's mouth and placed the opening of the water bottle underneath his lower lip, he tilted the bottle upward making the pills slide into the patient's throat.

Donghae held onto the bed groggily before slowly, he began to regain some color to his face.

The doctor handed the medication to Eunhyuk before sitting down and perscribing him another capsule to be picked up at the local pharmacy later.

"Take two a day every afternoon around this time, okay? How are you feeling? You should take a rest." Dr. Siwon spoke to Donghae while getting the usual response of a slight nod.

Suddenly, the doctor got the slight haunch about something that might have been a little different about the younger.

"Hey..." Siwon started softly before asking, "can you speak to me?"

He had a deep perplexed tone in his voice, signaling the confusion and concern he had over the Donghae.

Eunhyuk knew something was seriously wrong with this man.

Donghae made a short animalistic sound that was barely audible before the doctor turned to Hyukjae and studied his face.

"I need to talk to you outside." he said, void of any emotion.

Both Eunhyuk and the doctor stepped away from the room, far enough to stay outside of Donghae's hearing range.

Judging by the look of intense apprehension Siwon had on his face, Eunhyuk knew this couldn't be good. He listened attentively to what the doctor had to say.

"Mr. Hyukjae..." Siwon started, pausing before the other pulled up his head and looked him straight in the eyes, "after taking a closer look at Donghae, I'm afraid he's not mentally inapt." he continued.

Eunhyuk waited for the doctor to go on, not having anything to say.

"You see, my most likely suspicion is his Broca's area, a major head injury as a child." Dr. Siwon explained with careful eyes, looking at Hyukjae with the most emotionless face he can manage. "We're going to have to run some tests on him to confirm, but-"

"Does that mean..." Hyukjae trailed off, taking a quick glance inside the door looking at Donghae's now concious body sitting upward on the bed.

He was staring intently at the older with sparkling eyes. Eunhyuk couldn't help but realize how cute the male looked, despite his current situation.

He didn't want anything bad happening to him, that's for sure; but this tension had begun to make his head spin with worry.

"It means Mr. Hyukjae," the doctor paused, sighing deeply, "he will never talk in his life."
