Twenty One: Key
Lost You
The black color behind my eyelids turns to a red orange and I open my eyes to face a harsh light.
I let my eyes adjust and then look around. I’m in some kind of hotel room, high up by the look of the view outside. I see a ton of neon lights and signs and people walking around below who look like dots.
I hear a small moan and look over to the bed next to me as another boy wakes up, putting a hand on his head as if he’s got a headache.
I walk over, glad my hands were unbound.
“Are you another hostage or something?” I speak as he sits up.
He blinks and looks at me, shock rendering his face,
“Key!”
He’s hugging me suddenly and I look at him for a second before pulling him away,
“Who are you?” I ask.
He laughs like it's a joke,
“Who do you think?” he smiles, “Do you have any idea how much we missed you? Are you alright? We got the photo they’d sent-”
“I’m not joking. Mind telling me your name?” I move to the door, putting an ear against it to see if anyone was on the other side.
Clear.
I open the door, and look down both ends of the hallway.
Why am I alone. And the door unlocked...
A warning flashes in my head, but I don’t care as long as I can get out of here.
“Key,” I look back inside the room a little irritated at the distraction,
“What?” I speak, seeing that he’s staring at me and hasn’t moved at all from his spot.
