Mr. Talkative
Cry Out With My Heart and Soul
"Stop the car!" Yesung said hurriedly.
"Wha…? What?! What is it?!" My confusion turned to panic as my foot hit the brakes.
"Look at that sunset!! Would you mind if we take some pictures?" Yesung was already moving, grabbing an expensive-looking camera from his bag and running of the car towards the beach.
"Do I have a choice?" I muttered under my breath. I quickly got out of the car and ran up behind Yesung, catching up with him and slowing to his jog. Ewok came sloppily running after us and head-butted the back of my ankles as we stopped. I turned, then picked him up. Wookie began me again and I laughed at how his tongue felt against my forearm. Yesung ignored us and I watched as he adjusted settings on the camera. He seemed like a whole different person when he had his mouth closed. He seemed so…focused. I couldn't take my eyes off of him.
Yesung took a few pictures and then hesitantly asked, "So… is it alright if I ask you to model for me?"
"Sure. I don't see why not. We're here anyway, aren't we?" Yesung smiled and led me to a spot on the sand. I became his Barbie doll as he adjusted my stance and moved my head in such slight movements that I didn't think they would make a difference. Every time his skin touched my own, my heart did some sort of flip-flop. He went back and forth between his camera and me until the sun went down and we went back to the car just in time for me to get a phone call from Henry.
My heart sank. He had broken up with me that afternoon, which was why I was in such a bad mood in the first place. Why was he calling me if he was the one that dumped me? I bit my bottom lip as I ignored the call. "You didn't answer?"
"I'm not in the mood to talk to him."
"Is he why you're in a bad mood?"
"…Yeah."
"You wanna talk about it?"
I sighed. "Maybe some other time."
Yesung left me to my thoughts, then. I wished he would talk so I wouldn't have to think about this…
"What time is it?"
"I don't know; check my phone." I was so glad for the interruption. It seemed Yesung could only not talk when he was holding a camera. The silence had been too much for the poor guy.
"It's…8:20."
"Damn. How far are we from civilization?"
Yesung tried to unlock my phone, but then encountered the passcode. He held out my phone so I could type it in, but I always hated doing anything with my hands while driving… save eating my lollipop, which I'd regrettably thrown away when I had first gotten mad at Yesung. "3825." I said and he typed it in. He pulled up 'Maps' and then dragged the screen up.
"Looks like about 12 miles."
"That's not too bad. Hopefully there's at least a Motel in that area."
I sensed Yesung watching me. "What?" I asked.
"Why were you driving out here if you didn't have an original destination?"
I sighed. "Sometimes, when you get…" I felt a lump in my throat. "Well, sometimes you just drive to drive, I guess." I swallowed the lump, eyes never leaving the road.
"So you just…head out with no sense of direction? Where you're going? When you'll be home? Do you even tell anyone?"
"I know it's a bad habit, but it's just…something I do."
"What if you got lost? If no one even knew you were gone, how are you supposed to get found?"
"That, my friend, is why I have that handy little app you were just using."
"What if you have no service?"
"Then I'd ask someone in whatever town I'm in to tell me whatever town I'm in."
"And if you break down in the middle of the road?"
"I'm always prepared for that kind of thing."
"And if you run out of gas?"
"Got a few tanks in the back."
"Battery dies?"
I glanced over at Yesung. "Are you just asking questions to get me to talk or do you legitimately think every battery just dies on a random stretch of road?"
"I'm just asking what you would do if that happened."
"Well first, I would kind of know if my battery is dying and have it fixed. Second, even if I didn't, I've got a perfectly good set of legs for walking."
"What if you're miles away from civilization?"
"What? You mean like 12 miles? It's not that far; I could run it."
"What if that happened here?"
"You saying it will? Because my battery isn't low."
"Well what if it did?"
"I told you: I've got a perfectly good set of legs for walking."
"What if-"
"Let's stop playing the 'what if' game, okay?" I sighed again and tightened my grip on the steering wheel. I didn't have a low battery, right? No; I had my car taken in for inspection last month and they replaced my battery then. I was fine. "Dammit, now I'm expecting everything to happen!"
Yesung laughed. "Sorry." I looked over and smiled at him, twisted in his seat to look at me, just like a little kid. We again went back to being silent. Then, finally, "I'm glad you were driving, though, even if you don't like the reason behind it." His eyes carefully met mine, like mentioning me 'driving to drive' meant I was going to burst into tears.
"I'm glad I was, too." I smiled at him and patted his hand, which rested on the storage compartment that sat in between us.
