All That Thunder.
The Ink Slinger's Diary (Seulrene Drabble Collection)Based off of my prompt.
Bae Joohyun wasn’t deathly afraid of thunderstorms but she never had the time of her life either. She despised the way that loud thunder crept under her skins with shudders and shivers; she hated the way the inclement weather made the little hairs of her stand upright as if they’ve heard the firm command of an angry general.
But there was a strange enjoyment to this all, a positive association to rain and thunder.
Kang Seulgi.
“I want to try using that kind of boots more often, have that kind of chic look,” said Seulgi, laid back in her cozy bed with her hands behind her head, huddled in the corner to make way for Joohyun, who was lying uneasily next to her. The rumble of the thunder didn’t faze Seulgi’s conversation none, only making her look up at the ceiling for a second before she looked down at Joohyun. That frantic look on Joohyun’s puppy eyes made Seulgi smile but melt inside. She scooted closer to her, lying on her side now. “Joohyun?”
“I’m sorry, I just--.”
“You’re distracted,” Seulgi finished off with a giggle, hand placed tenderly on Joohyun’s tummy, rubbing softly and patting tenderly. “You’re scared.”
Joohyun nodded. “Not so much now that I’m with you, but...”
Seulgi smiled, hooking up a leg between Joohyun’s. “It’s okay to still be scared.”
Joohyun looked up at Seulgi, smiling very subtly. “I’m sorry I still bother you like this.”
Seulgi shrugged, glancing on over at the clock to notice the hour. Two in the morning, which wasn’t so late for Seulgi’s ungodly sleeping schedule. “You don’t have to say sorry.”
And then the thunder struck ferociously, leading to a power outage. It’s roar echoed across the skies and Joohyun’s squeal came second place to rival it, making her nuzzle closer to Seulgi.
“Hey, hey, easy,” said Seulgi in the darkness, wrapping her arms around the frightened Joohyun. “I’m here, it’s just the power that went out.”
A soft little whine and a tender little nuzzle later, Joohyun looked up at Seulgi (or tried to) and spoke softly. “Is it okay if I stay over to sleep?”
“Do you even have to ask?”
Because no matter how many years pass, no matter how many things happen between the two of them, no matter how silly it would look to anyone watching, Seulgi was always there for Joohyun when needed it. She was always there when the sky was full of gray clouds, when the air was charged with tension and when the god of thunder threatened to scare her.
Always there, with an arm around Joohyun and a soft chit-chat, nuzzled in that closet-like room of Seulgi’s.
