“I can’t sleep… I’m exhausted but still, I can’t sleep.” Kim Jong Kook lay staring at the ceiling. He just got home after another night in the emergency room because it was understaffed. Working as a Trauma Surgeon is not easy. It’s stressful and you are fighting against time. But even though the stress and pressure working in ER is incomparable, he still loves it. Call him morbid but there’s just something about hospitals that calms him. That makes him feel right at home.
Graduating and completing his residency at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, he came back to Korea. Because of that, most of his colleagues thought that he came from a rich family. But that isn’t the case. He got where he is now because of hard work and determination to give his family, especially his mom a better life. And true enough, being one of the most in-demand doctors, his wish did come true. Now, his parents didn’t have to work, he was able to buy them a house and a house of his own.
Feeling his phone vibrate, he picked it up and saw a message from his friend, Cha Tae Hyun, asking him again to cover his shift tonight in ER because he cannot leave his wife who just gave birth. Of course, he agreed to it. He’s happy for his best friend but something inside him aches a little.
