She fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow and Jongin watched as she breathed evenly. He knew that when she woke up, her eyes would be red from the crying, so he had gotten out her eye drops. Other than that, there wasn’t much that he could do.
Soft knocks on his door made him frown, and he slipped out from under the covers to cross the small room that served as everything but his bathroom—which was another room by itself. His stove and microwave were in one corner, and he had cushions on the ground for sitting, but there wasn’t much there. But tonight, it felt a lot more home-like.
He opened the door gently and then frowned at the silhouette, “Mom?”
“Jongin, is Chaeyeon here?”
He slowly nodded, not sure why she couldn’t just call. Then they wouldn’t have to come over so late at night. “Why?”
And despite the entire situation, she smiled a little tiredly, but she smiled all the same, “I’m proud of you, Jongin.”
His parents and Chaeyeon’s parents were friends. Right. He had forgotten about that little detail. They had undoubtedly gotten a barrage of anger for his and Chaeyeon’s actions earlier, and Kyungsoo’s parents were probably in the same boat.
“I’m going to quit my job tomorrow,” He blurted, not sure what else to say. “You won’t be proud for long.”
She shook her head, “No, I will be. I’m going to go now.”
