Sweetness
PerturbTzuyu stood frozen on her spot as the cold metal was pressed harder against her temple. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Nayeon and Nara, and she sighed in relief. They were okay after all. Nothing had happened to them. She’d temporarily forgotten about the gun that was pressed to her forehead, joy filling up in her chest.
“Mina! Put the gun down.” Nayeon called out, covering Nara’s eyes. Tzuyu looked up to the woman pointing the gun in front of her, noticing how she relaxed her stance upon hearing Nayeon’s request.
“Tzuyu!” Nara squealed, running to attack her legs. Tzuyu gritted her teeth as pain shot up her leg once again. She ignored it, lifting Nara up into her arms.
“I apologise for the scare; I just wanted to ensure Nayeon and Nara were safe from harm.” Mina bowed as she apologised.
“It’s okay, really.” Tzuyu replied, shaking her head. She called over Sana, gripping on to her hand tightly as Mina closed the door behind them.
“Sana, Tzuyu; this is Mina, the so called footballer.” Nayeon introduced, basking in the surprise evident on their faces.
“What were the chances? I’m assuming you’re a security guard here?” Sana asked, pointing to the gun on her hip.
“Yes I am. Been working here for a while now.” Mina nodded, glancing towards Nayeon momentarily. “How did you find this room?” Mina asked.
“Oh, we heard voices so we hid in the corridor. I thought I saw Nayeon which is why I tried to look for her.” Tzuyu explained.
“Never mind that, why are you two still here. I thought I told you to leave.” Nayeon frowned, feeling upset.
“Well, we had a change of plans and ended up in this chaos.” Sana mumbled, squeezing Tzuyu’s hands for comfort.
Mina was hesitant in who she trusted but she always believed in Nayeon. If she trusted these people, Mina would trust them as well. Nayeon had rarely told anyone about what happened to her and considering she told two strangers, it was confusing. Mina didn’t panic; she was just curious about the random trust. Sometimes, telling a stranger helps lift burdens that friends cannot do. Mina understands that. With newfound trust, she explained their situation.
“Like I was telling Nayeon before you came in to the room, we’re in a hostage situation.” Mina whispered, hoping it didn’t fall on to Nara’s ears. It was already enough that Nara has seen the chaos that had occurred outside; what would happen when she knew about the true happenings inside the airport?
“Hostage situation?” Tzuyu whispered.
“You could call it a hostage situation. We have been hijacked. The airport’s control is in someone else’s hands.” Mina muttered.
“Do you know who it is or why they’re doing this?” Sana asked, frowning in worry.
“My superiors are calling them H. They are unaware of the gender or how many people are in this supposed team.” Mina added.
“H? For hijacker?” Nayeon asked.
“Most likely.” Mina replied, lying through her teeth. She knew who H was. But she wasn’t going to endanger anyone with that knowledge.
“What does H have control over?” Tzuyu asked.
“Everything but surveillance.” Mina answered. “The security team had managed to shut down the surveillance in the building before H had full control of it. It works in both ours and their favour. H can’t see us and we can’t see H.”
“Why can’t we just leave the airport?” Sana questioned.
“All exits are sealed shut due to our security system. There is no way out I believe. We have to find H before H finds us. We don’t know what H wants and we have to find out before something bigger happens. I have access to the outside team members who will be informed of our progress.” Mina murmured.
“So what do we do now?” Tzuyu forced herself to ask.
“Rest for now. This room is hidden away from everyone else unless like you, they’ve spotted it. I’ll be devising a plan in a little while. Everything I have just said is solely information. I’ll be working on this alone. I can’t risk any of your lives.” Mina said sternly, walking towards another corner of the room to ponder.
Nayeon frowned, pulling Nara into her arms from Tzuyu. She seemed to fall asleep in the taller girl’s arms and she was glad. Nara must’ve had a packed and tiring day from the flight to their current situation. Glad for the presence of a couch that seemed to be in perfect condition, Nayeon placed Nara on it, watching her crawl into a ball and snuggle against the back.
She walked towards Mina, noticing her deep in thought. Sana and Tzuyu were in their own world, heads bobbing from tiredness. Nayeon placed a hand on Mina’s back, watching her flinch at the touch.
“Mina, are you hurt?” Nayeon asked in worry.
“W-what? No.” Mina denied, shuffling away from Nayeon. Nayeon frowned, turning Mina around with such speed, she had no time to stop her.
“Mina! You’re hurt!” Nayeon scolded, pulling up Mina’s shirt. Her eyes widened at the wounds scattered across her skin. “This is my fault, right? When you covered me when the pillar collapsed!”
“Nayeon–”
“Shut up. Turn around.” Nayeon demanded, getting up to search for a possibly unopened first aid kit. Mina bit back a smile as she watched Nayeon sift through multiple cupboards to find a box.
“Check the last one on the right side.” Mina informed, shaking her head as Nayeon blushed. Huffing, Nayeon walked back to Mina, sitting beside her as she opened the box.
“If you do something like this again, I’ll be very disappointed.” Nayeon muttered.
“How do you know what do with a kit?” Mina asked, wincing as Nayeon dabbed cream onto her wounds. Muttering an apology, Nayeon blew on the wounds as she applied the cream, making Mina shiver.
“I just injured myself a lot. I had to take care of my own injuries.” Nayeon explained, placing a bandage around Mina’s back.
Nayeon was bringing it around Mina’s stomach when she grabbed Nayeon’s hand, making her freeze in the process. Mina grabbed the remaining bandage, wrapping it around quickly.
“Thanks Bunny.” Mina mumbled, giving Nayeon’s hand a squeeze. She let it go, walking away from Nayeon.
“Mina.” Nayeon called out, looking concerned. “Come back here for a moment.”
“Hmm?” Mina replied unsurely.
“What is it?” Nayeon asked, raising an eyebrow.
“What is what?” Mina retorted.
“You’re hiding something from me.” Nayeon pointed out, crossing her arms.
“No, I’m not.” Mina answered, voice faltering slightly.
“Mina!” Nayeon whispered harshly.
“It’s nothing.” Mina denied, pulling away from Nayeon.
“You’re not going to tell me?” Nayeon scoffed.
“I can’t tell you yet.” Mina whimpered, surprising Nayeon. However, she didn’t let the surprise affect her for long, pulling Mina into an embrace. She loosely hung her hands around her waist, unsure if it would cause pain.
Mina sank in the embrace, basking in the warmth. It had been a while since she’d last hugged Nayeon. Everything was clogging up in , the memories playing like a video in her head. She’d done well to suppress it all but Nayeon’s presence was a trigger for it all. There were things that happened that Nayeon has no idea of and she would like to keep it that way. She didn’t want to hurt her with the history.
“I know you’re not telling me something big. I know but I’m not going to push for you to tell me.” Nayeon confessed, running her hands through Mina’s hair to comfort her.
It was rare times like this where Mina let herself be open. She didn’t show her feelings easily. Nayeon always treasured that she could be the one Mina relied on. Whatever was bothering Mina was important and big; she could see the struggle in Mina’s eyes as she hid it. Nayeon wiped away Mina’s tears, pressing a light kiss to her head. Mina always seemed like she had everything under control but she was still a kid at heart. She’d grown up too fast and all of a sudden.
Nayeon sat down, seating Mina down next to her. She intertwined their fingers, pushing Mina’s head to rest on her own shoulder. She watched on as Mina slept beside her, tired from the struggles she’s keeping away in her heart. Nayeon rested her head against the wall behind her, observing how everyone was sleeping. She knew she wouldn’t be able to go through with sleeping as well. Her brain was very alert at the moment; the slightest sounds made her flinch. How would she possibly sleep in this condition?
Tzuyu had shifted in her sleep a few hours later, a mess of curls in front of her face that belonged to Sana. She smiled softly at their conversation before they had drifted off to sleep. Looking around, she realised that Nayeon was awake, surprising her.
“Not sleeping?” Tzuyu asked.
“I can’t fall asleep.” Nayeon shook her head, watching as Tzuyu eyed Mina with a knowing smile.
“I think things happen for a reason.” Tzuyu smiled, taking a quick glance at Sana.
“Things worked out?” Nayeon chuckled.
“We talked about it. She said she liked me. It feels surreal. It’s hard to believe she’s mine.” Tzuyu mumbled, placing a kiss on Sana’s forehead.
“I told you to confess quicker.” Nayeon teased, shaking her head.
“Thank you for pushing me to do so.” Tzuyu smiled cheekily. She really was grateful for the advice. She wouldn’t have Sana in her arms if it weren’t for Nayeon.
Nayeon nodded, sticking out her tongue as she risked a glance towards Mina’s sleeping figure. A smile graced her lips as she looked on.
“What about Mina?” Tzuyu raised an eyebrow teasingly. Nayeon’s eyes widened and she blushed, biting her lip.
“There’s nothing.” Nayeon denied.
“Yes, because the googly eyes you two were giving each other after you aided her wounds wasn’t an indication.” Tzuyu scoffed.
“What! You were sleeping!” Nayeon gasped.
“No, Sana was sleeping. I was still awake.” Tzuyu smirked, crossing her arms.
“So you were watching us?” Nayeon pointed out.
“W-what, no! I opened my eyes and that’s what I saw!” Tzuyu denied.
“Sure, sure.” Nayeon teased.
“About Mina. She was the one your partner and you fought for initially, right?” Tzuyu concluded.
“She is.” Nayeon nodded.
“She is?” Tzuyu smirked.
“What?” Nayeon frowned.
“You never really got over her.” Tzuyu shook her head.
“I did. I got married.” Nayeon argued.
“You tried to move on. Your heart has always been with Mina.” Tzuyu smiled.
“That’s not possible.” Nayeon denied.
“Whatever it is, you’re getting another chance to get things on track again.” Tzuyu informed.
“She didn’t like me then, why would she like me now.” Nayeon scoffed, shaking her head.
“I don’t think she ever stopped loving you.” Tzuyu mumbled, out of Nayeon’s earshot.
Only a fool wouldn’t be able to see the love that shone brightly in Mina’s eyes when she looked at Nayeon.
And it seemed like Nayeon was the fool.
