Safeguard
PerturbNayeon had frozen upon Mina’s lips landing on hers, not responding. She didn’t expect her to be this bold after her teasing. She sensed that Mina was about to pull back in rejection but Nayeon had chased her lips and slipped her arms around Mina’s waist, pulling her closer. She knew Mina was smiling as Nayeon kissed her back and that slightly infuriated her.
Nayeon pushed Mina against the wall a little roughly, cupping Mina’s cheeks as she took advantage of Mina’s surprise to deepen the kiss. Mina tangled her hands in Nayeon’s hair, her heart racing from the dominance of Nayeon’s kiss. Her head was spinning from the kiss and her body felt warmer as every second passed. She pulled away after a moment, lightly panting and eyes half-lidded.
“I love you Nayeon – I’ve loved you for a goddamn while.” Mina chuckled, leaning her forehead against Nayeon’s. Nayeon felt like her heart was going to burst at the confession, eyes watering. She’d been wanting to hear those words for so long and now that she did, she didn’t know how to react.
“Hello? Nayeon?” Mina called out, waving her hand in front of Nayeon’s face.
“You do?” Nayeon whispered, still dazed out.
“Yes, I do. Now, can you come back to me please?” Mina chuckled, patting Nayeon’s face lightly. Nayeon blushed, whining and snuggling her face against Mina’s neck.
“Don’t you want to go back to Nara?” Mina reminded as she smiled, making Nayeon whip her head up quickly.
Nayeon sighed and Mina placed a quick kiss on her cheek before she walked ahead of her. of course, Nayeon was left frozen in her spot another time for the night, placing her hand on her cheek. Moments later, she caught up with Mina, complaining about having to run because of her. Mina laughed and hesitantly slipped her hand through Nayeon’s. The two of them blushed and refused to make eye contact. They smiled as they saw Sana and Tzuyu – Nara was fast asleep in Tzuyu’s lap while Sana was sleeping on her shoulder.
Tzuyu smiled to them as they approached her, knowing very well that things had settled between them with the way they were shyly clinging on to each other. They weren’t subtle – Nayeon was occasionally throwing a glance at Mina who seemed to have a constant blush on her face as a result. Tzuyu shook her head, feeling happy that the two of them had solved the problems and issues they had.
“Let me take Nara off you.” Nayeon mumbled, carrying her daughter and sitting next to Mina.
Tzuyu nodded, getting more comfortable on the chair and leaning back. She held Sana’s hand as she tried to do this and panicked when Sana moved next to her but grateful that she stayed asleep.
“We can’t wait for long anymore. I’m sure Momo already knows what we’re planning so time isn’t in our favour right now.” Mina sighed.
“She would’ve send out her remaining team members to look for Nayeon and Nara, wouldn’t she?” Tzuyu contemplated.
“At this time, Momo would most likely make a lot of rash decisions. Or, she could also be focussing on importing the weaponry and drugs instead.” Mina suggested.
“Well, from what we heard from the guards, it’s clear that Momo is still after Nayeon. But what would be more important to her? Her work or Nayeon?” Tzuyu hesitatingly asked.
“Back when we were together, she always prioritised work. So, I’m thinking, if she’d want me back, she’d try to fix that. Saying that, Momo would come to me first.” Nayeon rationalised, biting her lip in worry. Mina noticed this and frowned, placing her arm around Nayeon’s shoulders to bring her in her embrace.
“So we’re all going to have to move fast to be one step ahead of Momo while we can.” Tzuyu informed.
“That’s right. We can move towards the main room but be careful of your surroundings.” Mina nodded.
Tzuyu and Nayeon agreed, Mina heading out first. Nayeon and Nara left too, leaving Tzuyu behind with Sana. She sighed, taking in a few breaths as she tried to stretch out her leg. She was sure it was infected by now; Tzuyu wasn’t going to be able to support herself on it for much longer. She didn’t care though, she was always going to prioritise Sana first no matter what happens. Tzuyu was glad that she was the one who was injured rather than Sana – she’d go out of her mind if Sana was the one in pain.
She cradled Sana’s cheek, pressing a kiss to her forehead and tucking her hair behind her ear. Tzuyu didn’t want to wake Sana up but they had to leave before they’d get stuck here.
“Sana?” Tzuyu gently called out.
Sana stirred but remained asleep, hugging Tzuyu tightly instead. Tzuyu chuckled, massaging Sana’s scalp. The trick worked and Sana’s eyes fluttered open, whining at the fact that the massaging had stopped. Sana sighed, kissing Tzuyu’s throat before leaning away and stretching.
“What’s going on? Where are the others?” Sana suddenly panicked.
“Breathe.” Tzuyu demanded, placing her hands on Sana’s shoulders to calm her down. “They’re just a few minutes ahead. We’re going to follow them now.” Slipping her hands through Sana’s, Tzuyu led them to the room they’d observed earlier.
Nayeon and Mina were already waiting nearby, playing with Nara as they waited for Sana and Tzuyu. Mina’s team leader had contacted them earlier saying that they’d cleared out all the guards they’d knocked out. They were on the tarmac of the airport, keeping an eye on arrivals of flights. The incoming illegal goods would be here in a little while so they had the tarmac surrounded with the rest of the team members.
“We’ve got a problem.” Mina whispered as soon as they arrived.
“Why, what is it?” Tzuyu asked, frowning.
“The people at the front who were guarding have disappeared.” Mina mumbled.
“So that means they’re roaming around the airport?” Tzuyu gasped.
“Yes. Or, they’re inside the room.” Mina sighed.
“Can’t the binoculars see through the door?” Tzuyu asked.
“No, we’re too close to see that.” Mina said, shaking her head.
“We could be attacked by more than two people in there? If the other two guards are inside the room then that would make it four against two of us.” Tzuyu theorised.
“Or, there are only two people inside and we’ll be fair.” Mina replied.
“You two do know we’re right here, right?” Nayeon huffed.
“Yes.” Mina answered, talking to Tzuyu again. “There’s another issue. It could also be a trap. Momo could attack us from the other side of the door easily.”
Nayeon and Sana sighed heavily, not liking being ignored by their significant counterparts. They wanted to help out but the two weren’t even listening to them.
“It could be four against four.” Sana frowned.
“Who would be the other two?” Tzuyu raised an eyebrow.
“Me and Nayeon?” Sana scoffed.
“And what about Nara?” Mina pointed out.
“Well, one of us could stay behind then. So then you’d have three people with you.” Sana countered.
“Nope. Definitely not you.” Tzuyu shook her head, frustrating Sana.
“Why? I’m sure I can be helpful!” Sana whined.
“Not you either.” Mina muttered.
“I wasn’t going to volunteer anyway.” Nayeon sighed. “I know the wrath I could suffer.”
“Neither of you two are coming with us then.” Tzuyu decided.
“Tzuyu!” Sana called out in anger.
“What! I don’t want you in danger!” Tzuyu retorted.
“You’re putting yourself in danger but I can’t come with you?” Sana said softly.
“No, you can’t. Please understand. I don’t want you to get hurt.” Tzuyu replied, closing the gap between them to hug Sana.
“But I don’t want you to get hurt either.” Sana cried. “After so long I’ve finally found someone to cherish and I don’t want that to disappear.”
“I’ll be okay.” Tzuyu comforted, not making any promises she knows she won’t be able to keep.
Sana sniffled, hugging Tzuyu tightly. Mina and Nayeon sighed observing the distraught pair, wishing they weren’t stuck in the situation right now. Nayeon couldn’t feel guiltier for everyone that was part of this problem because it all started because of her. It was her partner and it was her that Momo was after. The other three people were caught in the line of fire because they’d wanted to help her out. If anything happened to them, Nayeon would be upset and it would tear her apart. She knows she just met Sana and Tzuyu but they were already special for her.
“!” Mina whispered harshly all of a sudden, pushing Nayeon and Nara behind her. Tzuyu acted the same, pushing Sana along towards the other two as well.
“Hide!” Tzuyu commanded, making the three girls shuffle towards a hiding spot quickly.
Nayeon and Sana looked on, both feeling awfully scared. Nara’s head was tucked against Nayeon’s neck and she knew she had to be quiet. They don’t know what was happening but they were following the instructions given by Mina and Tzuyu.
“What’s going on?” Sana whispered, trying to look up and see. Nayeon widened her eyes, pulling her down harshly.
“Are you insane! You could be in trouble.” Nayeon seethed, scaring Sana.
There was scuffling noises and more bangs and groans. Nayeon was getting more and more impatient by the minute. She figured that the two guards that were outside the room had spotted them and they were now attacking Tzuyu and Mina. Nayeon almost shot up when she heard a guttural groan from Mina, knowing she was in a lot of pain.
Sana was in a worse situation because she couldn’t hear Tzuyu at all. Was she okay? Her fears were settled when she heard a string of Mandarin curses slipping out of Tzuyu’s mouth. She bit back a smile at Tzuyu’s badass nature. Listening closer, she could tell that Tzuyu was out of breath and groaning occasionally. She was hurt!
It was all silent and Sana and Nayeon believed they were in the clear. More whispers were heard and the girls that were hiding risked peeking and getting up.
“Are we clear?” Tzuyu asked.
“I think so. They seem knocked out.” Mina sighed heavily.
“Wait no!” Tzuyu shouted, running in front of Sana who had stood up first.
“What–”
Sana’s eyes widened and her hand covered , stopping the escape of the worried scream that was about to rip through . Tzuyu fell to the ground with a loud thud and Sana ran up to her, ignoring all possible signs of danger. Mina didn’t hesitate, pulling out her gun to shoot the guard who they hadn’t knocked out. This wasn’t meant to happen!
Tzuyu wasn’t meant to be in Sana’s arms like this.
