All The Things I Swallowed InsideThe new job you started has you leaving at 7:30 every morning. You’ve learned to like the walk. An attractive guy always comes from the opposite way and turns at the same crosswalk. There is never a frown on his face, and his cheekbones were probably sculpted by gods. But you have no idea who he is. After a few blocks, he turns left just before your building. Creepily enough, you’ve memorized the back of his head. You can tell when he’s got a haircut or dyed his hair. You haven’t told anyone about this, though. It’d be weird to explain how you know so many little things about someone who has probably never noticed you before.
Today is no different; you grab your purse, lock the front door, and head down the sidewalk. You hum songs to yourself until the crosswalk, but he isn’t there. You feel a little let down. He’s usually the highlight of your day. It can’t bother you too much, you have to make it to work on time.
After a few minutes, you continue humming. Loud footsteps from behind approach and silence you quickly. “Sorry, I’ve been ahead of you for a month! Can’t lose now!” The guy rushes past you smiling widely. Your cheeks burn from embarrassment. He has noticed you. Your mouth opens as if to say something, but nothing comes out.
