Taeyeon almost laughed. If it wouldn’t have meant shaking the bed and alerting Tiffany, Taeyeon would’ve laughed.
Was it ever this awkward? She couldn’t exactly remember when the last time was that they’d slept together in the same bed. Taeyeon’s arm was starting to ache from being squished; since she had gotten under the covers, maybe 5 minutes ago, she hadn’t moved an inch — still facing the edge of the bed with her eyes tightly shut.
Behind her, Taeyeon finally heard Tiffany close her laptop. A creak, followed by a shift in the mattress: strange to think that she could still memorize the sounds of Tiffany’s nightly routine. Or, rather, was it strange that the routine hadn’t changed, at all? After setting her laptop on her bedside table, Tiffany would usually plump up her pillow and wiggle under the blanket before turning the light off.
Sure enough, soon there were a few quiet punching sounds, followed by the click of the lamp. Taeyeon held still as she felt Tiffany pull the blankets up. And then, a whisper: “Ginger?"
In the darkness, the bark sounded louder than Taeyeon expected, and as something heavy landed onto her legs, she couldn’t help but let out a gasp.
“No! Ginger, she’s asleep! Come here!”
Tiffany’s terse instructions didn’t seem to get through to Ginger. The puppy made his way determinedly up along Taeyeon’s back before scrabbling over her back and settling into the crook of her arms.
“Ginger!"
“It’s okay,” said Taeyeon, her voice coming out as a croak. She pulled an arm out from under the covers and hugged the little dog close as he her nose gently. “I wasn’t asleep."
“Oh,” came Tiffany’s voice from behind her. “Uh, do you have enough space?"
Taeyeon Ginger’s fur, ignoring the protest from her shoulder. “Yep. Do you?"
“Yeah."
“Good."
“Let me know if you’re too cold?"
“Okay."
There was a lengthy pause; as Taeyeon shifted slightly to give Ginger some breathing room, she heard Tiffany say quietly, “Good night, then."
