Taeyeon knew their relationship was on the rocks. In fact, she herself was carefully contemplating ways to end things — that is, if Tiffany didn’t beat her to it first.
So when Taeyeon received a brief “i have something to talk to you about” by text one evening, she was prepared. She spent an hour sitting quietly on the couch, rehearsing different things to say and calming herself down. When she heard keys in the front door lock, Taeyeon stood up to meet Tiffany.
“Hey, can you hold this for me?"
That wasn’t the first line Taeyeon expected to hear, but out of practice, she took the box from Tiffany and set it down on the floor while Tiffany closed the door.
“What’s this?” The end could wait, Taeyeon decided. Curiosity could have 15 minutes before they had the Talk.
When Tiffany didn’t say anything, choosing instead to kneel down by the box, Taeyeon held in the flare of irritation and stood nearby with her arms crossed.
She tried again. “What’s in the box?"
“It’s…” Tiffany looked up, and Taeyeon was surprised to see a hint of uncertainty in her eyes. Tiffany was nervous.
Quietly, Taeyeon let out a breath and braced herself.
“I figured, we have pretty different schedules and the apartment is big enough, so I brought him back."
“Brought—?”
Slowly, gently, Tiffany reached into the box and held up the smallest, most sorry-looking black puppy Taeyeon had ever seen.
“...You brought home a dog?"
