On Friday night, Tiffany came home, once again, to a silent apartment.
“Taeyeon? Ginger?” She took off her shoes cautiously before trying again. “Taeyeon?"
She found them on the bed in the bedroom — her bedroom now, the one they had shared before Taeyeon moved into the guest room. The curtains were half-drawn, and in the dim light, Tiffany saw that Taeyeon was cuddling with Ginger, both of them fast asleep.
As Tiffany stepped into the room, though, the small furry head poked out from under Taeyeon’s arm.
“Hi there, Ginger,” whispered Tiffany, tiptoeing closer. “Did you have a good nap?"
The puppy wormed out of Taeyeon’s hug with his stumpy tail wagging madly. Tiffany knelt by the bed and kissed his nose, jumping when he barked in joy.
“No, shh! You’ll wake mom—her,” Tiffany finished awkwardly, not really sure what she had just been about to say. She didn’t have much time to think about it anyway; with a quiet exhale, Taeyeon sat up slowly. “Hi,” said Tiffany, looking up at her.
“You’re home."
“Just got back."
“I—” Taeyeon looked down at the bed and quickly got off. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to fall asleep here. He was trying to get onto the bed and then I just…dozed off."
“Nothing to worry about,” said Tiffany lightly.
“Did you already eat?"
“Boss bought us all dinner. That’s why I’m back late."
“Ah,” said Taeyeon, tying her hair up into a ponytail. She’d probably forgotten how much Tiffany liked her with her hair up, but Tiffany appreciated it anyway. “I’ll go make some noodles then."
“Sorry."
“No, it’s not your fault. Anyway, the appointment is at 11 tomorrow, right?"
Tiffany nodded. Ginger’s vaccinations. “We should leave at 10:15."
“Okay. See you tomorrow morning, then."
After Taeyeon left, Tiffany got up and sat on the bed. The spot where Taeyeon and Ginger had been napping was still warm.
