Chapter 12
Just A Nobody [A Scarlet Heart: Ryeo Story]Hae Rin's POV
All I felt was my heart beating rapidly in fear and panic, all the while desperately telling myself that things will be alright. Soo unnie will be fine, she promised me, didn't she? I should have a little faith in her, at least. Shutting my eyes tight, I leaned back slightly towards Prince Baek Ah's chest and took deep breaths, in an attempt to calm my heart down.
My breath was hitched in my throat when we halted abruptly, only for me to widen my eyes at the sight in front of me. Prince So and my sister's horse was being surrounded by Princess Yeon Hwa and her men. No... I felt my head shook and hands tremble, my eyes started to water and a lump forming in my throat, "It can't be. This cannot be happening..." my voice came out in a broken whisper.
Just in time, my sister made eye contact with me. My heart broke into pieces when she smiled apologetically at me and attempted to get down from the horse but Prince So held her back. I almost tried to get down from the horse I was on too, fortunately, only to have Prince Baek Ah wrap both his arms around my frail frame, not allowing me to move.
"If you do not cooperate and marry the King, this will be a huge mistake. You are not only risking your own life, but also your sister's. If you do not marry the King, your sister will be the next in line. Is that what you want?" asked Princess Yeon Hwa as Hae Soo's eyes rounded at what she said. My sister once again made eye contact with me, while I furiously shook my head with pleading eyes, "No, not you too! Please don't leave me!" I cried but that didn't stop anything.
Princess Yeon Hwa was grinning in victory at the sound of my wailing, while Prince Wook was glaring at his sister. Furious was an understatement to describe his anger. Hae Soo successfully got down from the horse this time, after muttering for Prince So to let her go. I was struggling in the 13th Prince's arms like mad, trying to get to my sister, "No, let me go! I can't let her do this! Please!" I sobbed violently, crying for my life.
"Hae Rin-ah, please don't be like this." I gave up struggling after the prince behind me said those words. Tears fell like a waterfall as I watched my sister approached a carriage, ready to be brought into the palace. Before she entered, she stopped for a while and turned around to look at everyone, as if for one last time, with tears pooling around her orbs. Her eyes fell on mine last, a tear fell as she mouthed to me, "I love you."
Then she disappeared into the carriage. I watched with a blank expression as the men picked the carriage up and walked off towards the palace. The princes bowed their heads in shame that they have failed to do what they were trying to do and also devastated at how things have turned out.
"I've lost her too... Wow, I can't believe I've lost her too..." I mumbled to myself and chuck
