Broken Glass

There were many things that Chaeyoung likes. For example, headphones. Who wouldn't like a nice pair that you can literally feel the music swimming in your bones? Sketchbooks and drawing pallate. Chaeyoung was artsy, she could blossomed a blank paper into a gallery-worthy masterpiece. Sneakers. Basically, it's just the trend nowadays and Chaeyoung just bought whatever looked cool on the display rack. Oh, and let's not forget about food. Chaeyoung believed that the sole purpose of human birth was to eat every single delicious food on the planet. The list could go on and on, but definitely not THIS one.

"NO! We're absolutely not watching that and that's final!" wailed Chaeyoung. Her string of protests so loud the people around shot them weird glances. Like Chaeyoung could care. Right now, her mental well-being was more important than her public embarassment. Chaeyoung was in the cinema lobby with her girlfriend of a year. They were on their weekend date and Mina, in her unusual bubbly mood, was quick to drag Chaeyoung to this place after dinner. Chaeyoung had knew this would happen. Mina had been dropping not-so-subtle hints about wanting to go to the movies that whole week: carrying a certain book everywhere she went, suggesting to go to the mall instead of staying in at home etc. Generally, Chaeyoung liked movies of all genres, but when it came to THIS one? No, sorry, this was her nightmare.

"Please Chaeyoungie. I really want to watch Me Before You. I've been waiting for its release since January," Mina was pulling at Chaeyoung's hands, begging her in puppy dog eyes she knew Chaeyoung wouldn't able to resist.

But she was wrong. This time, Chaeyoung was firm, "Minari, you know I hate romance. How can you force your girlfriend to sit through two hours of this boring movie? This is torture. Besides, you've read the book, so what's the point?"

That hit a nerve. Mina, usually calm and demure, threw her arms in the air and walked away pouting, "Fine, you always win. I never get to say anything."

Stunned, Chaeyoung stood there for a few seconds, before something clicked in her head and she was running to catch up with her. Mina was rarely angry, let alone throwing a tantrum in public. That was how she knew this time she had crossed a line.

"Mina, wait," Chaeyoung managed to grab her hand before she could go far, "Alright, I'm sorry."

"For?"

Oh my God, why is this so tiring? "For not listening to you," Chaeyoung hung her head low, trying to look remorseful. She just wanted to be done with this. Mina was kind. She bet everything that Mina would turn soft after 3 seconds, which was what she was doing now in her head. Counting 3, 2, 1.

True to that, she won the bet. A pair of arms wrapped around her neck and a kiss on her cheek. She looked up to Mina squealing in delight, "Thank you Chaeyoungie. I love you!"

Chaeyoung couldn't believe this was actually happening. Her whole life determined to abolish romance films, but now she was going to watch one. She sighed, "Anything for you, baby." Mina beamed.

Having dated for a year, Chaeyoung never seen Mina got angry over anything or anyone, so that was really a shock. Luckily Mina was easy to tame, or she wouldn't have known what to do had Mina gotten more upset. She was always calm and collected, choosing to keep her feelings away. She wore a polite facade at all times, but never really giving herself away. Unlike Chaeyoung, who was bold and forthright, like she could ever give a damn about what people think of her. At times, she was reckless and hot-tempered, she would sulk if things weren't going her way. Both of them were the exact polar opposites, but somehow they made it worked. Chaeyoung liked to think she was the storm and Mina was the rain. The storm would always calm down by the rain, like how Mina would always endure even Chaeyoung's biggest fit and tried to cool her down. She remembered the day she first met Myoui Mina, and dear God she felt so drawn by her elegance and beauty: Golden brown hair that fell in loose wavy curls to her jutted collarbones, almond shaped face, pink lips that formed a cute pout, the tiny cheeky mole on her straight nose bridge and a pair of twinkling crescent eyes. Chaeyoung had never noticed anyone in such fine details until this mysterious girl came in and shook her world. She couldn't stop thinking of Mina's shy smiles. One day, she finally had the guts to ask for her pho
