One long chapter ahead~

Baesin pier? Haru looked out of her side of the window. Her body jerked forward lightly when their car comes to a hasty stop. Unbuckling her seatbelt, she throws her door open and jumps out in sync with the others.

Running forward with Jongup and Barom on her heels, she comes to a stop when she realizes the situation. Facing them was the four gangs and while her dad and their allies had their backs to her. What stole her attention in that moment isn’t this stand-off that hints at a possible shoot out but the fact that Insoo is kneeling at Jinyoung’s feet.

Bloody and beaten up from head to toe.

Jinyoung grins at the sight of us and Insoo must have noticed the sudden change. He lifts his head and she gains a better look at his face. Wincing, she looks at Jongup. Surely, this isn’t a type of sight for sore eyes.

“Well, now that everyone is here…,” Jinyoung exclaims in excitement. His man hands over a gun and he casually nudges Insoo’s head with it. “Have you placed the pieces together yet, Seonwoong?”

Haru’s eyes land on her dad’s back.

“Who can blame him, right?” Jinyoung gestures to Insoo. “Just blame greed.”

“You probably never saw it coming, did you?” Eight adds.

“Wow and you guys always went on and on about loyalty.” Haru remarks with a scoff. “Stop acting all tough when all you did was snitch on us, you slimy pieces of sh–,”

Jinyoung smirked. “So, what?” It got the job done.

“You know what we do to snitches?” She asked but as no one knew the answer, she decided she would share some wisdom. “We them up.”

“Are you finally going to admit your betrayal?” Gunwoo shouts back. “A leader that gains members through false promises won’t last.”

“They’re not false promises. I merely promise better.” Jinyoung comments. “Seonwoong, if you beg maybe I’ll give you a place in the new structure as well.”

His smile widens when he is only met with silence.

“There’s nothing you can do. Insoo here told us that you were too confident in your power and ability that you didn’t prepare anything. Isn’t it better to just admit defeat?” He looks down at Insoo and his gun. “I can do you a favor and get rid of your poison or maybe Insoo has something more to say–,”

Haru heard the deafening sound of a blast beside her ear and she felt herself freeze. Her arms shook by her side.

The gunshot.

The drop of a body.

The blood.

She shook her head and looked at Jongup beside her. His arm held out a gun, the tip of his gun still smoking. She followed the direction in which his gun was pointing in. Her eyes widen at the sight of Insoo flat on his side with a spot of red quickly growing upon the right side of his chest.

“Jongup! What the hell!” Haru yells. “I thought you two are friends. Why–,”

“Nabi’s secrets aren’t safe with him.”

Haru falls in a state of disbelief as her attention is shared between Jongup and Insoo. While they went on and on in the background, she couldn’t stop the sound of the gun blasting inside of her mind over and over again.

“Haru, focus.” Jongup orders blankly from beside her.

“Well, one last thing for me to do.” Jinyoung comments before turning his attention back on her dad. “So, what is it, Seonwoong? Did you come here to surrender? To bargain?”

“Neither.”

Jinyoung cracked up then.

In the moment, Haru finds the man’s humor was special– only he understood the joke. She would have been more irritated if she wasn’t still staring at Insoo lying there. One minute in and it’s already too much to handle.

“Let’s take care of this quickly.” Jongup mutters.

“What?” Haru asked in shock.

“We don’t have much time.”

She stares at him. What time is he talking about? “What did you do?” He refused to answer then and she didn’t think she could wrestle the answer out of him. “And how do you suppose that?”

Sirens blare all around them and Haru jolts from the loud noise. She looks up into the air and at the surroundings–,

“Freaking Youngjae.” Haru curses under her breath.

Were they not working together? They’re all gonna obviously get arrested today with him being here with the entire police station.

It was almost like Jongup and Barom knew what Jinyoung was planning. Barom placed his entire body over Haru’s own and Jongup ran forward to tackle her dad to the ground. A choir of gunshots rang out and as soon as Haru heard it, she wanted the ground to swallow her up.

Peeking out from underneath Barom, she finds Jinyoung and his men somehow had fled in between the maze of storage containers after shooting recklessly at them. The gunshots come to a stall as everyone look up. But, not Haru. She pushes herself against the pavement as much as she could in fear the shots will start again now that the shooters have gain coverage.

“Haru, this fear of yours can really get you killed.” Barom warns softly beside her ear. “There is no better time than now to get over it.”

Barom and Jongup are the two least understanding people in the world. “How’s my dad?”

“Senior Jongup got to him in time.” He answers before asking, “Where are the cops?”

“Huh?” Haru pushes Barom off of her to take her own look. The sirens don’t appear to be coming any closer as indication to the volume.

“Seonwoong!”

The shout cuts through the air with chuckles following.

“Do you want to see your world fall apart today?”

But, it seems like Jinyoung hasn’t realized it yet. Though they couldn’t see him from where he was hiding, his voice echoed around the pier loudly and confidently. With her hands flat against the ground, she grips them into fists.

“What do we do?” Barom asks.

“What was my dad’s plan?” He must have had a plan. She refuses to believe her dad is this impulsive. It doesn’t match him.

Barom merely stares at her.

“Come on. What is it?” Her expression hardens.

“Something big. It’ll help us escape at least.”

Her eyebrows knit together. Something big. “Sure. Whatever. Can you cover me?”

“What are you going to do?”

“Something big.” She says just as she starts running towards the containers and their hiding spots.

“Haru!” Jongup hisses as she runs past him.

Barom has no time to stop her and instead takes out his gun and starts aiming in the general direction Jinyoung and his group of traitors were hiding. Her body jumps with each pop hitting the air but manages to slide in between the stacked and neatly arranged boxes thanks to Barom’s diversion. She peeks around the corner but finds no one in sight. As she takes another step, someone grabs her by the shoulder and she spins around to push the person back against the containers.

Suddenly, she finds herself and Yongguk staring back at each other. She loosens her grip on his uniform. “What do you think you’re doing?” She hisses at him.

Youngjae and Sungwon appear then.

“You’re the worst at planning.” Youngjae accuses her. “How were you planning to handle Geomi?”

“If you’re going to complain, just go home.” She doesn’t have all day to listen to it. “Take all your cops with you too.”

They suddenly just stare at her.

“It worked?” Yongguk asks.

“What?”

“Well, fooling Haru really doesn’t mean anything.” Youngjae says.

“Someone better spill it before I start cracking heads.” She threatens.

“It’s amazing what you can do with a few speakers and a siren’s recording.” Sungwon says. “There’s no one else but us.”

“Huh?” And it hits her. “Oh.” For a moment, she sees Sungwon in a different light. “I have to be honest– this side of yours is completely unexpected. Almost like a plot twist.” But, they needed to return to the problem at hand. “What are you guys doing here?” She’s pretty sure she left them with the responsibility of watching over Dali.

“To stop you from doing something reckless.” Yongguk answers.

More shots ring out and instinctively, her hands move up to cover her head.

Déjà vu washes over Yongguk. This was like that time they hid behind the gas cans a while back. This reaction of hers was uncharacteristic then and even now. “Are you– are you afraid of guns?”

Youngjae reacts. “What?” That’s hard to believe.

Haru’s eyes snap open but she doesn’t look up. “Is that something to ask right now?”

“Let me help.” Yongguk suggests.

Youngjae peeks around the corner to see if they’re still alone.

“This will be too much for you.” She begins to walk away.

Yongguk runs forward and moves in her path. “We’re a team–,”

Someone slides out a few feet away from Yongguk with his gun pointing at them. Haru reaches for the officer in front of her and forces them out of the way. The bullets hit the containers, causing metal clangs to ring out. She looks across from them to find Sungwon and Youngjae had quickly hidden themselves.

Anticipating her refusal, Yongguk puts on a face that demonstrates there was nothing that would talk him out of it. “Alright. But, you got to watch your back.”

“I already know who we’re up against.”

There was no time to think about anything else but the Yongguk before her was definitely not the same as the Yongguk she met months ago. She looks around the corner and checks the current situation.

“Hey, Youngjae.” She calls out and the detective move

Chapter 46: The moment I found the story I knew I would need to read it in one go, and surprise, I really did. All I have to say is that I loved every aspect of it, the characters, their development, the plot, the plot twists. I don't think I can name anything that I didn't like. Maybe the only thing that won't ever let me live peacefully is not knowing what happens with Jongup with the hospital (I have a suspicion it would have something to do with Insoo), but I'll take it as a challenge to imagine his fate.
Overall, I just want to express my biggest respect for you. You make the world a nicer place to live with your stories.

Chapter 46: This is so beautiful. (╥﹏╥) I haven't read anything like this before. Something that doesn't have a "romantic ship" and something that really connects with the real world. A slice of life and somewhat a story that can be portrayed as a life lesson. I usually search for stories like this, stories that you don't need to to cringe because the plot is so great but the "ships" mainly involved romantic relationships. It warms my heart that she overcame all of the obstacles in her life and she made the decision to face herself and her past. I hope that i can be just like her. I want to be someone who can be sure of her decisions. I want to be just like her, that despite everything that happened to her she still hasn't give up and still made the decision that she felt happy. I wish that i was as strong as her and have those people who supported her all the way. I wish i would be able to face myself too. (i wish it was sooner rather than later and i hope that i can do what i really love and what i really want. (。•́︿•̀。) )

Fightinggg!!! More ideas to come!! ~

P. S. This literally tug at my heartstrings. I also felt overwhelmed by the emotions when i was reading this. Hoping for more~

Chapter 46: I'm finally able to comment (srry that J'm so late) ^^
I have to say, the last chapter was what motivated me the most to upvote this story (actually even more the plot-twist of Youngjae arresting her) and I loved the ending. It made me feel so light and I love how Haru kept her character all the way but still matured in some way- so thanks for the amazing story. I enjoyed reading it a lot!
