Chapter 21: What's the Sneaky Jerk Up to?
Introducing Lady Cutthroat
Heading back down the sidewalk, Haru had her hands stuck into the pockets of her sweatshirt and her attention on the bar that was coming into view. Checking the streets, she only finds Yongguk’s cop car. Meaning, backup hadn’t arrived yet.
That’s when they came out.
Haru felt her body go stiff as her heartbeat thumped heavily against her chest the moment her and the older man locked eyes.
That full head of short white hair and that face – it’s not a mistake. He hadn’t changed all this while.
Without much of a reaction upon seeing her, he turned away while the three men in black suits followed after him. They open the door, he slides in, and they’re ready to take off. Haru’s eyes shifted towards Jongup who started towards her.
With the bar in mind, Haru hurries forward but Jongup is fully intending to stop her. He places his arms out to block when the entrance was within feet.
“Get out of the way, Jongup.”
“Go home, Haru.”
“Not when you guys came out of the same bar that – “ Haru stopped abruptly.
“The officer went into?”
Haru stared at him hard while Jongup showed no indication of backing off. “It’s none of your business.” With a shove, Haru slips through and disappears inside the bar.
With everyone’s attention focused on the two shouting individuals being held back by their respective groups, no one noticed her appearance. Her eyes quickly search for Yongguk and she finds him trying to soothe the two agitated men down.
Finding that it was indeed just a bar brawl, Haru breathes out in relief. Looking back at the situation Yongguk was caught in, already, she knew no amount of babying will settle this.
Stepping forward, she appears beside Yongguk.
“Haru?”
“Let’s hurry and handle this.”
Worried about what she had in mind, he leans down and whispers. “No fighting.”
As if telling him to trust her, she pats her chest before moving to stand between the two idiots. “Alright…”
They continue shouting over her.
“Alright!”
The two heads snap down and still at the sight of the young girl.
“Cops are going to be here any second now,” her voice comes out almost robotic and rehearsed, “why don’t we all just take a seat – “
“Get out of the way, girl.”
One of the guy shoves her aside, causing her to fall back into Yongguk. Luckily, he had been there to catch her. Steadying herself once more, Haru rolled up the sleeves of her sweatshirt, silently thanking the man for putting his hands on her.
He started it. Now, she has an excuse.
“Get the cuffs ready, Yongguk.”
Marching forward, she stands in front of the culprit and grips his collar. Before he could question her actions, he had already rolled over her shoulder and landed on his back. The floor shook under his weight.
And, naturally, Yongguk shows up and quickly cuffs the guy. “You’re being arrested for public disturbance – “
Haru looks at the other half of this trouble with a smirk on her face. She points at him. “You’re coming along too…but, you can make it easy for yourself.”
With that, he obediently agrees to come to the police station at once.
And, backup arrived twenty minutes later, earning them no action.

“So…” Youngjae looks away from the two men, who are clearly battered, and up to Yongguk.
“Brawl in Geomijul bar called in from Beogeu Street.” Yongguk explains.
“Haru?”
“Haru.”
“I still can’t get used to this.” Youngjae mutters to himself. He couldn’t imagine any normal young girl going up against men their size…but, Haru wasn’t just any normal young girl.
“I see it all the time and I still can’t.” Yongguk replies.
“Okay, is Haru responsible for these bruises as well?”
“They did that to each other before people could stop them.” Yongguk says. “Haru only flipped that one onto his back.”
The attention shifts over and as if ashamed, the man’s head drop towards his lap.
“Where is she?” Youngjae questions with his eyes down on the statement he’s currently writing.
“I sent her home.”
“Tell me how this fight started…”

Beogeu Street.
Beogeu ing street.
Unable to wrap her mind around the current information, chuckles slipped from her lips at the shear ridiculousness that has become of the situation. Before she could fry her brain by attempting to connect the dots, a figure standing outside her apartment quickly steals her attention. Closing the distance, she finally sees who it is.
“Barom, wasn’t it?”
“You can call me Rome, miss.” He replies.
“I’ll stick to Barom.” She says as she fishes her keys out of her pocket. Just as she unlocked her door, she figures maybe he’ll let some information slip. The new ones are always like that. “Barom, today is the first day you actually showed up to my place, correct?”
“Yes, miss.”
Her face grimaces. “Just call me Haru.” She didn’t like to appear close to these guys but anything is better than being called, ‘miss’.
“I’ll remember from now on, Haru.”
Right.
“What’s this thing about a turf war between Nabi and Geomi?”
He stares at her, not offering any signs that he was going to answer it.
“If Nabi runs Sugo Street and Geomi with Beogeu Street…what is there to fight over?” The streets were in opposite directions. And, what were they doing on Beogeu Street today when she saw them? Jongup is such a sneaky bastard. Even now, she can never tell what he’s up to.
“Senior Jongup says you were going to ask a lot of questions and not to answer them when it appears as though you’re probing for information.”
“Don’t listen to everything he says.”
When it doesn’t look like he would say anything else, she leaves him standing there and steps inside her apartment. Setting her keys down on her usual coffee table and taking her usual seat on the floor, Haru allows her mind to wander.

To Haru’s relief, break ended and that meant she could return to her normal schedule of volunteering at the police station.
“Haru!”
“Sorry, I have somewhere to be!
