Lonely
Behind Her Lies
Glass cups and plates flew from one side to another in the small room. Hair pulling and scratching injured both girls. No one outside of that room really cared what drama was going on. Most people were busy with what they had in their own rooms. After all, it was a house full of and dramas but there’s no need to worry about other people.
“NOBODY ASKED YOU TO EN MESS WITH MY GUY!” One girl yelled.
“WHO WOULD WANT A EN JERK LIKE HIM, DUMB !” Sae Young slammed the ty girl to the floor and kicked her in the stomach.
She threw a fist at the scared man and took his wallet that was laying on the table with beer bottles laying everywhere.
“Don‘t. EVER. Pull my hair again, you ty .” She spat and walked over the girl then out the door.
Sae Young got through the securities and the big door with a neon light sign that read Black Knights. She ran a hand through her messy hair and pulled it away from her face. Sae Young was too angry. Angry enough to bomb the whole city but she’s not that cruel. She felt her stomach growling then saw a noodle stand close by. She wished she could eat all that she can to make up all the starving she had done for the past years but she always reminded herself that there was someone that couldn’t starve. Her dongsaeng.
“I would like a small bowl of noodle.” She ordered and the lady turned around to pack the noodles.
Sae Young quickly took an apple that was in front of the stand and stuffed them in her pockets. The lady turned back and handed Sae Young the noodles. Surprisingly, Sae Young paid with what was in the wallet she took and walked back to the place she called home with her dongsaeng inside. It was a small abandoned house with not much inside. She opened the door and saw her dongsaeng playing with some toys. She smiled and knelt next to her dongsaeng.
“Sae In~ Look what unni got for dinner.” She sweetly said to her dongsaeng and placed the bowl of noodles on the floor.
It shouldn’t even be consider as a bowl of noodle since it was smaller than a drinking cup.
“Look~ There‘s pork and eggs. Hurry and eat it before it gets cold, okay? Don‘t make a mess.” She told Sae In.
Her stomach cried once more which made her ran outside. She took out the apple she stole and hungrily munch on it. It surely wasn’t enough and she realized how hungry she was until she had nothing left even the stem was gone. Tears whelmed in her eyes and her lips trembled. Each day was getting tougher. She was uneducated and couldn’t find a decent job. She tried but nothing seems to work. Once she worked at a open food market and she helped organizing fishes that were imported. She got breakfast, lunch and dinner by stealing fishes or any extras when no one saw her. The salary wasn’t enough to buy food for both her and her dongsaeng. When the boss found out what Sae Young was doing, she got fired. Another time, she was accused of stealing again due to her first incident. The memories were like blazing flames that burned her. She wiped her tears and walked back in. Her dongsaeng ate about two thirds of the soup and left the rest. Sae Young went to her dongsaeng and wondered why Sae In didn’t finish the noodles so she decided to ask.
“Sae In~ah… are you full?” Sae Young asked.
Sae In turned to Sae Young and smiled when Sae Young looked upset.
“No, unni but this is for you.” She replied with her face still bright.
Sae Young’s tears rise again and she looked at her dongsaeng then the noodles. She couldn’t believe that her dongsaeng would have done this. Usually all the food she brought back for her dongsaeng would be completely gone.
“Sae In~ah…” She sniffed and smiled even though tears were still wetting her pink cheeks.
“Unni just ate. Come on, finish it.” She assured the little girl and handed the noodles to Sae In.
“No, unni. Don‘t cry. The noodles will get even more salty.” Sae In said but still didn’t take the noodles.
Sae In’s face wasn’t filled with sadness but satisfaction. Sae Young was in great tears and sat next to her dongsaeng with the cup in her hand. The lost girl wrapped her short arms around her unni and started to pat her back with a slow rhythm. It was the same rhythm Sae Young used to put Sae In to sleep. Sae Young repeatedly cried until she was asleep in the arms of her dongsaeng.

“No~ Mom. I‘m not going to get marry soon…. Tsh puh-leese, I rather tie a good loops of rope around my skinny neck and hang myself. Ugh. Why him? N----” A random girl bumped into someone and her phone slid across the floor.
The victim didn’t say anything but kept walking. The girl angrily looked at her phone then chased after the victim.
“Yah! Don’t you know how to apologize? Yah! Are you freakin deaf?!” She yelled as she followed the walking person.
The person turned to face the angry girl without her realizing it. The girl gulped when she saw those dark eyes filled with something she wished she had never said anything to the stranger at the very moment. Three seconds later, she left her spot like the gust of wind. Hyun Ae’s eyes followed the girl who bumped into her. She felt like a monster, a ghost, something worse than death. Why did her life have to be like this?
It all started when cheerful HyunAe found o ut that her parents died in a plane crash. Tragedy hovered her world and it became darker than ever. She wanted a way out and at her young age, it was helpless. She had many relatives but no one didn’t want her.
Who would want a orphan?
A few or according to HyunAe, it is no one.
She was raised in Seoul Greatness Orphanage and the only person she could trust the most was the one she considered as her only family, the owner of the orphanage who is a nun (Sister Kim). She knew everything about Hyun Ae starting at HyunAe’s first memory of her life. When the poor girl cries, the arms that cuddle her all night long made her feel better. She was grateful for Sister JaRi even if she feels like she has been through the worst. As years went by her life was based on a routine: waking up, eating, being perfect, working with everyone, and then going back to sleep.
Simple, huh?
Is there something you realized that wasn’t there?
Yes, it’s love.
She doesn’t want it. She abandoned it. She washed it away with the great old memories that became nightmares to her. She doesn’t believe in it. She doesn’t know how it feels but for sure, she doesn’t need it.
But will she be able to resist it once she meets her fated one?
“Hello?” A happy old voice answered.
“Hi, Sister Kim. How have you been?” HyunAe tried sounding happy too.
“HyunAe? Ooo~~ Sister is just getting old. How are you? You know we just got two new kids here. One is a one year old boy who is really adorable and another one is a four years old girl. You should come see them.” She encouraged.
“Okay, Sister Kim. I‘m actually on my way. I‘ll see you soon.”
“Okay. See you.” Sister Kim said then they both hung up the phone.
HyunAe stuck her phone in her coat then walked slowly to her destination. She looked up to the sky and it started snowing. It was a quick moment when she smiled again. She sighed and acknowledged the touches of the snowflakes that landed on her skin.
“Umma, Appa. Are you there? Are you guys still waiting for me?” She silently said to herself as tears dripped to the corner of her eyes.
