A knock at the door

The Chances of Falling in Love

Weeks passed and Jane would visit Jason here and there. The two were quite happy together while Cody watched from a far sometimes already knowing that the two were dating but didn't say anything because it would hurt Jane. He didn't want that to happen.

But something strange kept happening to Jason, he kept getting calls from his ex-girlfriend and messages from her. Jason would ignore them but Jane knew that he had to do something if he wanted the messages and calling to stop. For once, Jason actually picks up the phone with Jane in the room. The speaker button was on and a girl's voice could be heard talking.

"Jason? Are you there?" The female asks.

"Yeah I'm here." Responding to the voice, he had his eyes on Jane.

"Mind if I come over?"

"Yeah, I don't think that's a good idea. First you steal half of my money and leave me, I'm over you already." Jason says.

"I wanna repay you back. All the money I took, I promise. And that girl too, Jane I think? I'll do what you wanted me to do back then."

Jane glares at Jason wondering what she meant. It got her curiousness up.

Jason chuckles, "Well I'm sorry, that girl Jane is apparently my girlfriend now, I don't think there's no point in messing with her anymore."

There was a moment of silence and she hung up.

Jane crossed her arms, "What did she mean about back then Jason?"

"Hm? Oh nothing, it was just a little prank."

She rolled her eyes and stood up stretching her arms.

The calls were repeating every five minutesthroughout the day and night. And Jason finally thought it would be better tojust meet his ex and get her talking over with. It was annoying him far too mucheven if he turned off his phone. Jane was quite busy with college startingand couldn't find the time to be with Jason. As for Cody, he kept a watch atJason to see any of his movements.

Jason dials Jane's number then asks her to meet with him at the cafe around the central area where he will be meeting his ex. She agrees to come after class but she wasn't prepared to see who his ex was or which one she may be.

____________

Jane opens the cafe door as the bell rings and the front counter welcomes her with a bright smile. She smiles back then looks around the area seeing people on laptops, small white mugs of hot drinks and others with iced drinks. While she looks around, she spots Jason sitting in front of a woman with long dark black wavy hair.

She slowly confronts them but didn't know why she was feeling so nervous. It's just his ex. Nothing will happen.

"Hi." Jane said standing at the table where Jason and the woman was.

Jason scoots over, "You're here. Sit."

She sits down and raises her head to see this beautiful woman. Light green eyes, slim nose, curvy full red lips, and an aura of mint perfume. Wearing a burgundy blouse and tight dark jeans with black heels. Jane could see why Jason would've dated someone like her if not only for her looks.

The female smiles at Jane, "Long time no see...Jane."

She a brow, "We've met?"

"Oh please, how can you not remember me? I was with Jason for four years."

Jane shook her head with a slight smile, "I'm sorry, I don't recall."

Jason sighs, "Jane, this is Kathrine...my ex."

Kathrine, the name began to come back to Jane. It was the girl who would always visit Jason almost everyday. Every time Jane looked out the window they would always be hugging and kissing in front of the door. She knew the background of Kathrine as she was very well known in high school. A poor family background but her looks were the only thing getting her anywhere. Jane remembered that she was the girl who would drag her into a corner with other girls and force her to smoke some cigarettes. Inhaling it was the worse thing Jane had experienced, especially being held back by so many others without any help from others. They laughed at her coughing and wheezing.

Jane stares at Katherine, "R-Right, you were the one girl." Her hands were on her lap clenching tightly together and her knees shaking up and down nervously.

"You're doing fine." Katherine said looking towards Jason.

"You are too. As I can see I guess." He sat up straight.

"You've change, did something happen? Anything I missed, did you miss me?"

He coughs up a laugh, "Yeah sure I missed ya."

"Don't joke around Jason, it's annoying."

He glares at her, "Guess you haven't changed a bit." He got up from his seat, "I'll get us some drinks." He left the table leaving Jane along with Katherine.

There was awkwardness, Jane was staring at her hands without a clue on what to say or ask.

"Are you happy?" Katherine asks.

She raises up her head, "Hm? Happy?"

"Yeah, with Jason. Great guy isn't he."

"I-I wouldn't say great."

"Anyways" She gives Jane a smirk, "Did you guys do it yet?"

"I'm sorry. Do what?"

Katherine couldn't help but laugh, "Really? You two haven't done it yet. ."

It was out of no where and Jane's ears began to burn, "That's not really necessary. Why-"

"We did it. We would do it probably twice or three times a month." She widen her eyes, "He's really good."

"Look, Kathrine, I don't want to hear about your past relationship with him." Jane stated.

"You're really missing out on Jason ya'know. He's probably holding himself back too. Maybe because it's you." She blew lightly at Jane's face, "Does he really like you?"

Jane couldn't answer her. Katherine's words just twisted in her mind about their past. Jane had no intention of having or anything with Jason. But there were times when she couldn't understand Jason's feelings.

Jason came back holding the drinks and giving the girls each of theirs.

Kathrine smiles, "Glad you still remember the drink I love." She takes a sip of her bitter-sweet espresso then the cream off her lips.

"I'm just being considerate." He said as he was about to sit down but Jane stood up.

She bins strands of hair behind her ear, "I'll be going. I remembered that I have to study for an upcoming test next week. Sorry that I have to leave." She kisses Jason goodbye on the cheek and leaves the cafe quickly. She could finally breath normally outside but was worried about Kathrine and Jason being alone.

Jane quickly made her way home. On her way, Cody was out holding mails, he waves to her smiling like usual.

He stops her, "How's the university?"

"I-It's fine. I have a test next week, already."

"Well I hope you do well." He said awkwardly. His thoughts were everywhere and couldn't pick the right words to keep the conversation going.

"I'll see you around then...Cody." She continues up to her grass towards her door.

"About you and Jason!" He shouts back at her, "I uh, I wish you two a great relationship."

Jane grins, "T-Thanks."

"What? You didn't think that I'd find out that you two are together?" He smiles back at her as she giggles.

"Yeah, pretty much. I'm sorry I didn't-"

"No no no, it's okay. I catch on pretty quick."

Their conversation ended there and they went their separates way. It's been so long since they last talked and it wasn't as casual as it use to be. Where they would laugh at almost every single sentence and joke around.

By the next few weeks, a black car parks up Jason's driveway. A knock at the door and the doorbell ringing around eleven in the morning. Jane was at the university and Jason was thinking who would be visiting him at this time of the day.

He opens the door and there she was standing. Kathrine smiling at him then walking in like she belongs there.

"The house still looks the same." She said with a bit of attitude.

Jason sighs, "How else would you think this house would look like?" He asks.

"We met just a few weeks ago. I might as well come and visit since it's been so long that I haven't been here."

"It's only been two years since we separated."

"Awe, have you been keeping track on how long we've separated?" She laughs at her joke then sits on the couch with her legs crossed.

Jason closes the door behind him, "What do you want now?"

"Can I not come visit my ex? Just wanted to see how you are doing with his new "girlfriend" who you used to make fun of and hurt her back then for all of your life." She smirks, "You can do better than that Jason. I mean look at me, you lost your best one yet you went for a loser."

Jason clenched his fist, "Best one? I don't know what the hell you are talking about. You aren't even the same person from back then. A different girl who's standing in my house, but with the same face as the old you from back then. You've changed a lot Katherine...your attitude and everything."

"One thing hasn't changed about me though." She said softly.

 "I doubt it."

She got up and leans in a little closer to him and he backs away knowing this was wrong. He didn't care for her anymore and had Jane.

 "Stop." Jason said lowly.

He held her shoulders so she wouldn't come closer. She didn't want to stop and gently held his wrist. The soft touch of her that never changed for Jason came back to him. It made Jason feel weak and guilty at the same time. This wasn't right, it repeated in his head multiple times. Just a few inches away from each other, Katherine presses her lips against his. She kisses him once again, the sweet soft lips of hers that Jason always loved. He kissed her back. Getting more into the kissing, Jason was lost in thought, his mind went blank as he held Katherine so close to him to the point he was pressing her body tighter towards his. She wraps her arms around him and digs her nails into his back. The domination of hers had gone too far. Their kiss then involved their tongues and Jason couldn't help but go along. Jason backs away – moving down to her neck. Slowly, he her neck eventually nibbling on it then it. Her hands crawled under his shirt feeling his body. She smiled with satisfaction and continues to let Jason her neck.

While at that same time, Cody finally got offfrom his university and was still in his car parked on the curb in front of his house checking emails from his professorsand colleagues. Right when he was about to get out, Katherine and Jason came out ofthe house. Cody could see Jason's hair messed up and his shirt wrinkled frombehind in a really bad manner. Jason was touching his lips and biting them as Katherine was getting into her car and driving off. Cody wasn't so sure about whatthis was about. Doubts started to form and thought if he should inform Janeabout this. Jason watches her drive off and walks back into his home. Cody onlyglared at him with disgust.

"I knew this would happen." Cody mumbled under hisbreath getting out the car. Because of Jane's studies and night school on odddays, she doesn't get home till midnight and once she did, she would messageJason a 'goodnight' text. But she doesn't get a reply at all.

That night, Jason lays in bed, guilty of his own actions. He knew hundred percent that this will hurt Jane to the point she would cry to death.

The next day, Cody and Jane had the same school hours around five in the morning. Rushing to Jane, Cody stops her from getting into the car.

"Can I talk to you for a second?" He asks pleading her to stay and talk really quick.

She didn't know what he was going to say but he looked worried so she relaxed herself and waited. "Are you and Jason going okay?" He asks.

"Yeah, why do you ask?" She asks with a stern look about his question.

"Oh, because...I just thought maybe ...you might know something? But don't listen to me because I'm not sure. You should ask Jason yourself."

Jane sighs, "What are you talking about Cody?" She smiles, "I can't understand what you're talking about."

Cody hesitated, "Just ask him about a girl. If anyone visited him yesterday okay? I just don't like seeing you hurt if you find out later." He rubs the back on his neck and heads back to his car quickly. Jane didn't understand much as she looks across the street ti Jason's place.

During her lunch break, she calls Jason.

"Hello?" Jason said tiredly.

"Did you do anything yesterday?" She asks naturally as possible. She could hear the pause in Jason's voice.

"Um, no, why do you ask?"

"Nothing, just wanted to know. Sorry that I haven't been with you for a while Jason."

"It's okay Jane. I'll be alright on my own. Besides, my mom's back so it's fine. Just come by whenever you want, you got my keys don't you."

She smiles, "Yeah I do. I guess I'll come whenever I have time."

They both hung up and Jason could finally breathe again. Jason felt guilty to the core but couldn't get himself to tell her his guiltiness. It felt like wires were gradually squeezing his heart day by day.

________________

Cody messaged her about Jason and she said that nothing was wrong. But what Cody saw that day was definitely fishy.

Another day, another long lecture Jane and Cody left again at the same time again. It was a long day and nothing much happened. Until the doorbell rang, Jason opens the door and it was Katherine again. Jason shook his head. He didn't want her in his house again. She didn't care, she still stepped in as Jason just stood there watching her come in. Jason closed the door behind him.

"You know this is wrong right?" Jason told her and she just nods her head.

"I know really well how wrong this is Jason. But you know you want it. Remember your words, 'you won't let go until you get what you want,' wasn't that what you told me back then. His own words repeated reminding him what he told Jane.

"Yeah I remember really well."

She swirls her fingers on his chest, "You've been holding back on her haven't you? It must have been hard."

She came up to him as he looks away. Her lips on his then kissing him once more, holding onto him tightly as he did the same. He brought her into the room and pushed her onto the bed and getting on top of her. She smiles taking out a as if it were her plan from the beginning. There he goes again, lost in his own way and not even caring anymore. The picture of Jane in his mind looked scratched up, like an unrecognizable person.

Jason's phone was right there on the desk but on vibrate. It was about three in the afternoon it starts to ring, Jason and Katherine were too busy to hear anything with the loud moans of hers. The screen said 'Jane' along with ten missed calls from her. She was worried during her class hour and decided to leave early.

Driving up her driveway, she walks across the street and sees an unknown car she's never seen before. She walks to the front door taking out the keys to his house and starts to unlock the door. Slowly, she opens the door. She could hear someone's voice and it wasn't Jason's but a female's. Tears were ready to drop down her cheeks. Hoping she wasn't right thinking what he was doing. The door was opened enough to take a small peek. She was silent walking towards his room. The sounds of getting louder and louder the closer she got while covering . Taking a peek, the sheets were moving and the of a female on top of Jason ing on him. She gasps louder with her hands covering and she silently backs away out the house. The door was left wide open and Jane didn't bother closing it. The heavy tears she held back drips down her cheeks. She couldn't believe her eyes. Whatever she saw it broke her. Her heartstrings cut off by the second she saw them. Jane drove to the park and ran to the hidden place Cody showed her the first time they met and didn't bother coming back home that night. Her mind full of many doubts about how this all happened and with Cody being right about something going on with Jason. Soon enough, Jane ended up crying herself to sleep on the cold grass. The university was about to close down and Cody was just rushing his way out of there.

For some reason, he felt stressful all week. Was it because of Jason? The doubts he had against that girl coming out of Jason's home? All the paper and essays that were going on? It was late but he needed some time alone. The park was the only place he wanted to be at. Laying on the cold grass and staring up the clear night sky with stars while the moonlight shines down the empty space.

But he wasn't expecting to see somebody there.
