Chapter 7
DUFFMyungsoo is pacing outside of the operation room furiously. It’s been almost 3 hours but Jihyo is still in the operation room.
‘God please save her. Don’t take her away from me. I’m not ready for this.’
Not long after that, a female doctor comes out from the room and walks towards Myungsoo.
“How is she, mom?”
“Don’t worry. She passed the critical situation. She’s still weak and we have to monitor her condition. Stay with her and give her support. She might give up in the middle, so she needs support.” Myungsoo’s mom looks at him with a suspicious look.
“Aren’t you going to call her family, son?”
“She won’t let me.” His mom hugs Myungsoo, seeing him looking devastated.
“I guess you won’t coming home today, right?” his mom pats his back gently.
“Arasso. Take good care of her. I’ll leave first.”

It’s the 3rd day since the accident. Jihyo shows no sign of waking up, and Myungsoo shows no sign of giving up on her. Every day, he would come once his classes are over and stays all night, accompanying her. While he was away, his mom would come and visit her.
“Good evening, sunbae.” He takes a seat next to Jihyo’s bed. His heart hurts seeing wires and tubes connecting to Jihyo’s body. As always, he would tell her how the college is going, about her friends and his life.
“Sunbae. Don’t sleep too long, eo? I-I miss you.” He says with watery eyes.
“I’m going out for a while.” He walks out of the room and breaks into tears.
Myungsoo
I first met her when I was 10. I went to the same tuition academy, so we bumped into each other occasionally. I was on my way to home when I saw a teenage girl standing silently behind a wall. I was curious so I peeked on her. And it happened that she was peeking on someone too. I do noticed that persons. It was her friends.
“She wrote a love letter to Joo Hwan. I wanted to borrow her pen when I saw a letter in her pencil box.”
“So, you read her letter?”
“Yeah. Here.”
“Gosh this is so gross!”
“She’s so pathetic.”
“Does she know that you like him?”
“I think she knows. What a .”
“Yah, let’s put this in his locker. She should take her punishment.”
“Wow, this is fun!”
She laughed silently. I could see her sad and watery eyes behind the laugh. She entered the class with a bright smile, like always. Her so called friends pretended to joke with her when I could see clearly that they were faking.

It was exactly three days after the incident when I saw Joo Hwan hyung called for her. Joo Hwan hyung was in the same class as her, and he was this typical famous boy; rich, good looking, smart and friendly. But, behind that friendly attitude, he sometimes bullied the other kids.
“I… I read your letter.” She remained silent with her head down. She knew that this day would come. I wish I could go to her and comforted her.
“I’m sorry Jihyo, but I don’t feel the same way.” She laughed, making Joo Hwan hyung bewildered.
“You’re not actually thinking that I like you, right?” she wiped her tears as she was laughing so much.
“Joo Hwan-ah. We’ve been friends for 3 years. How come I can like you. It’s gross.” She said playfully. She nudged her elbow to Joo Hwan’s stomach, making the boy groaned in pain. He then laughed together with Jihyo. Only I could see the painful look in her eyes.

And here I was, comforting her from afar. I followed her after the class ended. She was sitting on the swing, crying her heart out alone. I was bu
