Hidden In Plane Sight

The pain in his chest was unbearable after he himself was the one to place Seollin’s dead body in that frozen room, along with the other victims. He laid her down in the best spot, making sure she would’ve laid there comfortably if she were still alive. Jimin hadn’t known her for very long; they did not even make it through an entire day. However, he had already built up that emotional attachment. There was something about the girl that pulled him in since the very beginning - something that made him want to protect her. Which he failed to do if it weren’t for those people convincing him otherwise. He started to remember.   “It was you…” Jimin’s whispered voice was filled with anger and regret. He looked up towards the tall guy who just stood there with his innocent act after all he had done. The sight of Sung Yeol sickened him, and he did not hold back as he marched forward to grab him by the collar.   “What’s your problem?” Sung Yeol asked, pushing Jimin away from himself, hearing the others gasp around them after his sudden action.   “You’re the killer aren’t you? You told me to stay away from Seollin!” Jimin was starting to believe his own theory the moment he verbally spoke out those words. “I told everyone to protect her because she would be next, but you said you didn’t want to risk your life for her. You must be the killer!”   Sung Yeol scoffed a laugh as he folded his arms together. “I don’t know if you’re plain stupid or whether you were born with a low IQ, but every man needs to think for himself. I have troubles trying to survive this, why should I protect someone I barely even know? Just because she is your girlfriend doesn’t mean I have to care. She was your responsibility.”   There was a sense of loss written on Jimin’s confused face - he had lost a part of his consciousness the moment he had lost Seollin. Sung Yeol’s words struck him hard, for it reminded him how he had failed to perform his responsibility.   “But at this point, maybe it would be better if we all work together to protect each other? Obviously we keep losing people when we try to do this on our own,” Hyun Mi suggested but stopped talking the moment Jimin gave her a grim look.   “Cut the crap. You were the other person who told me to protect everyone instead of focusing on Seollin and she ended up dead. For all I know, you could be the killer,” Jimin shot back at her. Yes, he remembered it very clearly. Sung Yeol never showed interest in protecting anyone aside from himself, and Seong Yeon agreed. But it was Hyun Mi who suggested the killer wouldn’t come back for Seollin again.   “You can’t say that. None of us can make any predictions. How do we know you aren’t the killer? I mean, you only knew her for a few hours. How can you say what you had was genuine?” Baek Hyun reasoned defensively.   “The guy got a point,” Seong Yeon quietly agreed.   “We shouldn’t turn on each other, that’s what the killer would want,” Chi Yeon said worriedly.   Jimin heaved a deep sigh as he began to kick the empty air to let out his frustration. He needed someone to blame, but he wasn’t sure who. He needed to take revenge of some sort, but he didn’t even know where to start. The emotional loss was starting to cloud his mind and judgement.   “I can’t trust anyone,” he concluded, walking away from the group to cool down his head in isolation.     Min Seok stayed behind by the passenger seat’s area instead of going downstairs with the others. He awkwardly stood by the back seat as he watched Hee-Jin clean up the space at the front area where his seat was. He noticed the way she fluffed Jong Dae’s pillows, or cleaned up Eun Kyung’s blanket, but the care and detail she put into taking care of his personal stuff told him she still cared even though they were fighting. Woo Hyun’s words kept ringing in his head, and he wondered what he had to do now.   Hee-Jin carefully placed the folded blanket back on Min Seok’s chair and gave it a light pat before she looked up. The smile on her face disappeared as soon as their eyes met. There was an instant attempt to force her most vicious and angry looking expression, though it ended up looking somewhat like an adorable pout instead.   “Why aren’t you downstairs?” She asked him, crossing her arms in front of her chest.   “Because you weren’t there with them,” Min Seok answered truthfully, slowly emerging from behind the seats as he took small paces to approach her. He could tell by her body language that she would attempt to run away, even though there was nowhere to go to.   “You should leave,” Hee-Jin said, looking around her for a way to escape. There was only the door leading to the cockpit behind her, but she couldn’t possibly disturb the two pilots simply because of her relationship troubles. She knew she was trapped against the wall when Min Seok approached her.   “Please, just let me talk.” Min Seok was standing in front of her, just inches away from her face.   Hee-Jin did her best to look away from him, for she knew she would lose her determination once she looked at him. Just being so close to him physically made her feel warm as her heart continued thumping in ecstasy. She was supposed to be really angry at him right now, but the more she heard his sweet voice, the more her reasonings disappeared.   “I’m sorry,” Min Seok spoke in the most genuine apologetic way.   Hee-Jin looked at him in shock, watching how he was staring at the floor instead of her. She realized he felt too guilty and ashamed of himself to even look her in the eyes.   “I never should’ve involved you like this. If I had known back then how much I would care for you now… I would’ve stopped the moment something happened between us,” Min Seok spoke.   “You’re unbelievable,” Hee-Jin muttered as she shook her head. “So you’re saying you regretted the moments you have spent with me?”   Min Seok looked up, seeing the glare in her eyes as she directed her question at him. Wasn’t he doing something right? Why was she so angry? He just had the puzzled look on his face and unsurely gave a small nod as reply.   “You don’t get it, do you?” Hee-Jin asked with a sigh. “I don’t regret having fallen in love with you, but I regret falling in love with a man who is still married. I’d rather you resolve everything with your wife first before I had gotten more involved.”   “And I apologize for that. I should’ve taken this matter more seriously. But whenever I’m with you, I just lose focus of everything else…” Min Seok spoke honestly, slowly grabbing her hand to intertwine their fingers together. When he felt her reciprocate the touch, he couldn’t help but smile. “I’m sorry for hurting you.”   “I’m sorry for distracting you,” Hee-Jin replied with a giggle. She had always been weak to Min Seok, and his poor attempt to apologize was not an exception. The airplane suddenly experienced a sudden turbulence as she felt Min Seok halfway falling against her.   “Yeah, how did you expect me to resist you when you’re this attractive?” Min Seok asked as he used the chance to press himself even closer against her. He used more force to pin her hands against the wall and began showering her neck with light pecks.   Hee-Jin let out a small giggle at the way his breath tickled against her skin, but it did not stop him. “I guess I didn’t expect anything at all,” she replied, welcoming his lips as he began to kiss her.     Eun Kyung furrowed her eyebrows, gazing down upon her wrist that was being held so intimately by Kyung Soo after she refused to go down the elevator. She would’ve lied if she claimed her heart maintained a steady regular rhythm. No, she always had shown some interest in Kyung Soo ever since the start. And if Min Seok wanted nothing to do with her, she might as well have a fresh new start.   “Don’t go there,” Kyung Soo spoke sternly, still not letting go of her hand.   “Why?” She questioned, just to test his reply.   Kyung Soo was a little taken aback, honestly thinking she wouldn’t have listened to him at once. “You wouldn’t like what you’ll see.”   “Are you saying this because you care about me or…”   “Because I don’t want Hee-Jin to get hurt.”   Eun Kyung bit her lip, unable to feel the pain as she bit a little too hard. Nothing could beat the pain from his harsh rejection - she shouldn’t have even tried. She released her wrist from Kyung Soo’s grip with force and gave him a glare.   “Frankly, I don’t care about her,” she stated with a cold attitude.   “I’m warning you for your own sake. You will regret this,” Kyung Soo tried to hold on to her.   “You’re warning me for that woman’s sake, not my own. Stop pretending like you care,” Eun Kyung told him, giving him another look before she ran out from the kitchen. She could still hear Kyung Soo calling after her, but she ignored it as she pushed the kitchen curtain away from her side and finally walked out to the area where all their seats were.   The sight was devastating.   She lost her entire ability to reason or to even think when she saw her husband holding that woman in his arms; breath mingling together, bodies moving in sync, arms entangled everywhere against each other. The two were having a steamy make out session in a public area that would’ve remained a secret if she didn’t walk in on them. But no, her decision to chase after her husband left her heartbroken.   Kyung Soo had gone after her, but knew he was too late when Eun Kyung’s gaze was focused on nothing else. He felt some sympathy towards the girl for having to see this, and perhaps he should’ve tried harder to stop her for her own sake.   “I’m sorry,” he whispered softly to her, words she did not hear.   It was true that Eun Kyung was about to start a clean slate with her life, but it never meant that she stopped caring about Min Seok. It didn’t mean that his actions to fool around with someone while they were still married wouldn’t hurt her. Perhaps, this was how it felt like when she cheated on him back then. Maybe this was a payback for her own karma; what goes around comes around.   But she wouldn’t accept it.   (Play Background Music)   “Kim Min Seok!” She called out, taking big heavy steps towards them. The anger was boiling in her for being treated like this. She did not deserve this, even if she had done the exact same thing to him. The only difference was that she was smart enough not to get caught directly.   The couple stopped kissing, both turning pale as if they had seen a ghost. Min Seok quickly took a stance in front of Hee-Jin and protected her behind him. He felt her clinging unto the hem of his blouse, scared of what would happen as guilt probably crept on her.   “Eun Kyung, it’s not her fault. If you want to blame anyone, you should blame me,” Min Seok spoke instantly.   Eun Kyung scoffed a laugh of disbelief as she continued to walk forward. “You’re right. The person I hate should’ve been you instead of her, because you are way worse… Ten thousand times worse. You’re not even human for doing this,” she said, continuing to move forward. But with every step she took, she somehow knew she was getting closer to losing him… To entirely letting go of him.   “You’re right... I’m a terrible person, and you deserve someone much better than me,” Min Seok couldn’t agree more.   Eun Kyung halted her movement as she was only two rows away from the forbidden couple. She gave Min Seok a pained look, knowing what he meant with those words. “What are you talking about?” She decided to test him.   “I think it’s time for us to...”   Min Seok didn’t get a chance to continue his sentence when he heard Hee-Jin let out a sudden yell, followed by a sudden shaking of the airplane. They were entering into yet another turbulence, and he immediately held unto Hee-Jin to keep her from falling.   Kyung Soo quickly held on to the nearest seat, watching Eun Kyung do the same as their argument came to a pause. The turbulence began to rock the entire plane back and forth as items could be heard sliding around in the luggage compartments above their heads. But out of them all, he noticed something weird - a latch that kept clicking open as if it hadn’t been closed properly. This could only lead to one thing.   “Eun Kyung, watch out!”   The girl spun around to his voice, but was welcomed by an unforeseen situation. The luggage compartment right besides her current position flung wide open as the heavy equipment from L’Studio slid out of its place.   Eun Kyung let out a loud yell as she watched a blur of items fall with speedy movements before it crashed down on her. The photography powerpack that nearly weighed 5 kg knocked her down against the floor as it fell perfectly on top of her ribcage. She let out a loud painful yell which managed to mute down the sound of her cracking bones. Her entire body had become numb by now, feeling more items being pressed on top of her, soon burying her entire body underneath it.   “We need to help her!” Kyung Soo yelled.   Her line of vision had become hazy at this point as she was starting to lose consciousness. Perhaps it was truly her karma for being such a mean antagonist. She should’ve stopped playing like an innocent victim against Min Seok when she was truly the one to initiate the entire affair. She should’ve come clean about her mistakes since a long time ago instead of pushing all the blame on her husband. But time was running out when she was the one being pushed to her final breath.   “Eun Kyung, hold on! We’re gonna get you out of there!” Min Seok screamed as he kept mumbling other things she could no longer understand.   His words were probably lies. Just like the time when they said their wedding vows at the altar - to love each other till death do us part. The one thing they both had in common was their inability to trust each other. They had both lied. And she knew very well that there wouldn’t be enough time to get her out of there. Even if they did, there was no one to help her broken bones while they were still in that cursed airplane. He could start anew with Hee-Jin the moment death parted them.   “Min Seok oppa…” She managed to utter using her remaining strength, withstanding the unbearable pain of what felt like multiple people’s weight on top of her. She could feel some of her burden becoming lighter as the others worked on removing the items from her, but it did not stop the numbness from her broken ribcage.   “Don’t say anything.. Save your energy!” Min Seok told her as he and Kyung Soo did their best to remove the heavy powerpack from her.   Eun Kyung once again refused to listen to him, just like she always had. “I’m sorry…”   The unexpected words froze Min Seok halfway in his movements, too dazed to notice Kyung Soo’s warning when another item fell out of the compartment. The powerpack slipped from both their arms, and once again fell on Eun Kyung’s fractured body. Before the girl could let out a painful scream, the massive tripod had rolled out of the compartment to the girl and managed to impale the side of her head, cracking open parts of her skull as a river of blood came flowing out instantly.   Eun Kyung’s death was so sudden it left the two guys speechless as Hee-Jin’s horror scream was the only thing deafening them.   “What happened?” Ho Seok’s voice asked as he walked out of the kitchen along with several other people who had returned from the floor below. They were all equally confused when they saw Kyung Soo and Min Seok gathering around a pile of photography equipments while Hee-Jin was horror-struck against the wall at the front of the plane.   Mira looked around her surroundings to find the cause of their strange behavior, but felt like something was missing instead. “Where’s Eun Kyung?” She asked.   The question changed the expression on Min Seok, Hee-Jin, and Kyung Soo’s face, almost as if she had said something taboo.   “Where is Eun Kyung?” Mira questioned again, feeling the oddness in their reaction.   “What are my equipments doing outside?” Myung Soo immediately noticed as he ran up to it.   “Aw man, did they break? How much would it cost to get new ones?” Seul Yi started questioning herself out loud.   Once Myung Soo arrived at the scene, he let out a loud gasp of horror. The equipment became the least of his concern as he saw a body buried underneath it. The dead girl looked heavy burdened with the huge crack on the side of her head; blood was painting the already maroon colored floor carpet. Soon he heard choruses of gasps behind him once others approached the scene and witnessed the same horrendous sight.   “Eun Kyung! What happened here?” Mira yelled as she quickly knelt down and placed her finger in front of her friend’s nostrils, trying to check for any signs of survival, though the imagery had led her to believe otherwise. Though she still refused to believe what the facts were telling her, she pushed the two guys who were lying idle. “Don’t just sit there! Do something!”   “We tried, it’s too late…” Min Seok muttered lowly.   Mira gave him a hateful glare, in disbelief at the words that were coming from his mouth. Without thinking any longer, she slapped his cheek as the loud smack surprised the others. “This was because of you, wasn’t it? You didn’t even try to help her.”   Hee-Jin could not stand to see the way he was being mistreated at the misunderstanding and had to say something, anything. “He did try to help but-”   “Be quiet!” Mira yelled at the flight attendant. She did not know at what point the tears had started to dwell in her eyes, but Eun Kyung’s death was uncalled for. “Out of everyone, you have no right to try and tell me what happened. You are equally at fault as this good for nothing husband is!”   “You’re overreacting. We tried to help, but it was too late,” Kyung Soo said calmly as he tried to Mira away. But she was already too much of a crying mess to move away.   “Instead of fighting like this, can’t we at least get the equipments away and let her rest in peace?” Sohee questioned, feeling more pained at the image of blood constantly flowing out of her skull.   “You’re right,” Kyung Soo spoke. He, Min Seok, and Myung Soo started to clean up the equipments before he took it upon himself to pick up the body from the floor.   “Let me do it,” Min Seok spoke. “It’s the least I can do for her.”   Kyung Soo pressed his lips together before carefully passing the dead body to him. “You should’ve thought about that when she was still alive,” he spoke.   Min Seok remained quiet, ready to take all the blame and accusation that would come his way. He knew he didn’t do a good job as a husband, and this was a consequence he was going to have to deal with for the rest of his life. There were only regrets. If only he had told her the truth sooner, things wouldn’t have been this painful.     “First we lost Seollin, and now this…” Seul Yi let out a sigh at the killer’s non stop killer streak.   “What? Is Seollin…?” Hee-Jin nearly choked on her own question. She was unaware of the situation that happened on the other side. She only saw her cousin giving her a small nod in reply before both looked at Jimin who would rather not talk about that.   “Tell us what exactly happened with Eun Kyung,” Jimin’s voice sounded more like a forceful demand rather than a kind request. At this point, he would stop at nothing to find the killer.   Hee-Jin was quieter than usual, perhaps because she had witnessed the death in front of her eyes this time. It was scarring and traumatizing. “Me and Min Seok oppa were… Reconciling… And then Eun Kyung appeared, mad at what she saw… And she has every right to be mad. So she approached us in anger… And the plane got a sudden turbulence… And the equipments just fell from the compartment…” she tried her best to explain the entire situation, but experienced another break down as the image of Eun Kyung’s death flashed by in her mind.   “It’s okay, just take a deep breath,” Sohee spoke, gently rubbing the side of Hee-Jin’s arms to calm her down.   “But how is this even possible? How did the killer even know that Eun Kyung would walk by at that exact moment?” Seul Yi questioned out loud, confusing herself with her own question.   “It’s impossible, which is why this must’ve been another coincidence,” Aemi argued as she folded her hands.   “How can this be a coincidence? It seems completely planned out,” Yerin countered. “The timing for it to happen was too precise, it couldn’t have been a mere accident.”   “But we don’t see anyone doing it. Just like all the other deaths, they all seem like accidents if you ask me,” Aemi spoke.   “Not exactly,” Hyun Mi suddenly pointed out. “This compartment was hard to close since the very beginning, which I have mentioned several times before. Maybe the killer heard me and somehow figured out a way to use it to his or her advantage.”   “That’s right! I did hear you talk about it when you tried to take your brother’s jacket!” Seul Yi remembered. “So the weapon was already there since the very beginning. Nothing in here is safe anymore!”   “This shows that we need to be on guard for everything. The least unexpected items can become a murder weapon,” Yerin warned them once again.   “Or you guys are all just too paranoid and giving the killer too much credit. This isn’t possible,” Aemi insisted.   “You know, I’m suddenly suspicious of why you keep saying there is no murderer. What if you’re the real murderer?” Sohee questioned her. Looking back, Aemi was always the one in denial of the murder’s existence, perhaps a distracting scheme.   “Are we really going over that again?” Aemi asked, rolling her eyes. “If you think of me as the murderer, you are only giving a chance for the real murderer to roam around freely.”   “So now you’re saying there is a murderer?” Sohee raised her eyebrows.   “I never said there wasn’t. I’m just saying the murderer isn’t as smart as we think he or she is!”   “This is getting nowhere,” Jimin shook his head. “Let me inspect the photography equipments first.”   “Please be careful,” Myung Soo requested as he presented the equipments that were still lying on the floor, waiting for a new place to inhabit them. Ever since what happened, they were not going back to the luggage compartment again.   “You’re telling me to be careful with your already broken equipments?” Jimin questioned, inspecting the items that were left unprotected without a casing or whatsoever.   “I could still get them fixed,” Myung Soo argued.   Jimin shrugged and began his inspection.     Min Seok had already returned as he was just sitting silently in his seat, feeling the true emptiness besides him. There was only feeling of regret in him. He should’ve told her sooner if he had known this would happen. He should’ve just come clean about what he had done. But now she would never know.   “Hey, it’s going to be alright.”   Min Seok felt a light pat against his shoulder and looked up in shock to see Woo Hyun standing in front of him, giving him a sympathetic smile. “Those are just some empty words,” he said.   “You’re right, but I figured it was the kind of thing you needed to hear at this moment,” Woo Hyun replied.   Min Seok showed him a small smile at his honesty. There was something about the things Woo Hyun said that was so comforting despite him feeling like the biggest failure in the universe. It must be that certain ability which made him so suitable as a public figure.   “How could you be like this?” Jong Dae suddenly asked.   The two guys looked to the side to see Jong Dae staring at them with so much disgust written on his face. “Is this the difference between a man loving his wife and a man who doesn’t? After my Jihye died, I haven’t even been able to smile even once. But your wife passed away, and you’re smiling like nothing happened,” he spoke as he shook his head. “But then again, you had an affair.”   “He’s hurting and regretting his actions. No need to speak so harshly,” Woo Hyun told the other guy, forcing a kind smile.   “I’m just saying I feel so sorry for Eun Kyung, even though she was the one who killed my wife. But I guess justice had to be served and she died in the most painful way possible: being unloved,” Jong Dae kept on going.   “We don’t know for sure whether the lotion killed your wife or not, and the other problem should stay between the two of them. So stop guilt-tripping him,” Woo Hyun started to raise his voice. He knew Jong Dae was still coping with his loss, and this was perhaps his way to cope with it, but it didn’t mean it was the right way.   “You don’t understand, okay? Jihye was the nicest person… Out of everyone in this plane, she was the one who does not deserve to die. She wouldn’t even hurt a fly. She has done absolutely nothing wrong to deserve this… Why did she have to go?” Jong Dae questioned himself woefully.   His loud voice must’ve attracted several others as they had started to pay attention to the drama unfolding at the front of the plane. Most of them had a frown on their face at the way Jong Dae indirectly insulted them as he continued to worship his deceased wife.   “At this point, we are questioning the same thing for every person who became a victim,” Jimin interrupted.   “No! You don’t understand!” Jong Dae insisted, the look on his face started to change uncontrollably. “Maybe everyone else deserves to die! I don’t even care whether any of you die or not. But Jihye did not deserve to die. She should’ve survived! All of you should’ve been dead instead of her!”   “Whoa… Isn’t that going a bit too far?” Sohee asked, shocked at the way he snapped.   “My wife is innocent! You should all die!” Jong Dae yelled with a cracked voice. He broke down in tears after his harmless threat.   “I beg to differ,” Woo Hyun suddenly said, giving the guy a stern look instead of sympathizing with him. “You and your wife should’ve been put behind bars a long time ago.”   Jong Dae was momentarily frozen, bu

Chapter 14: I finally finished this today! This might be my top favorite mystery story here.
I also read the blog posts about the random facts of the story and I love how much research is put into the story. I like the foreshadowing used in scenes that I never paid close attention to like how the killers did their thing without no one suspecting them.
Of course, I will be reading the prequel, "The Target".

Chapter 12: I guess I was right about who Sheep is but I didn't expect who Wolfie is. Remember how in one of my earlier comments I mentioned how I suspected one person of being a killer.
Mira and Sohee are like the examples of friends for life but when it comes to death, one wants to survive and won't hesitate to get rid of the other to make sure they live longer.

Chapter 11: I started this story with Hee-Jin being a character whose storyline I'm interested in but now it's Hyun Mi who caught my interest. I nearly thought she did die in this chapter but luckily she's still alive. I like how Hee-Jin is taking her relationship with Minseok slow, it might also be because she doesn't want to get together with him after Eun Kyung died.
Mira and Hyerim found one killer, which means one of the other survivors is the 2nd one.

Chapter 10: Is it bad that I hate Hyerim because of how she manipulates Seong Yeon? Also, poor Hyun Mi, she lost the love of her life.
Reading about Seong Yeon's death scene made me think of that one scene in "Halloween 2" where Michael Myers uses boiling water to kill a nurse at the hospital. I turn away from the screen when that scene pops up. I can handle reading gore but seeing it in movies. dramas or video games just disgust me.

Chapter 9: Not going to lie but I like how everyone is suspecting one another to be the killer. They don't realize that they're slowly making it easier for the killer to get rid of them.
I think I, maybe, kind of got an idea who one of the killers might be. Something that happens in this chapter made me realize that the person is doing it as revenge for what the others did to them.

Chapter 8: No offense to Sung Yeol, Seong Yeon, and Mira but that is no way to prove someone is a killer, it's more of falsely accusing an innocent. I like how Hyun Mi points out how she trust Woo Hyun and knows he isn't the killer.
I still wonder how can Sung Yeol tell that it's Suho based on the killer's height, some of the other guys might be a similar height. Then I suddenly have a thought that maybe the killer could be one of the girls.

Chapter 7: I'm getting the idea that everyone on the plane must have or may have once committed a crime and the killer is delivering their form of justice against them. Also, something tells me that plan to fake a death might backfire and the person who pretends might die from it.
Since I watch a lot of horror/thriller films, I feel like there might be more than one killer. Like one does the killing and the other one kind of tells the killer where the victims are.

Chapter 6: I feel like elevators are the most dangerous unexpected weapon to kill a person because you never know when something bad will happen when you're in one.
I also began noticing that all the characters say something that makes me suspicious of them. It's like very common of each of them to begin accusing one another because the person they suspect does something suspicious, that might end up backfiring on them especially if they're wrong about the culprit.

Chapter 5: I still find it weird for people to be doing "things" in an airplane bathroom.
The part where Eun Kyung hit Hee-Jin made me nearly think Hee-Jin might be the next to die. I like how she talked back to Eun Kyung who cheated on Min Seok first but have the nerve to get angry at Hee-Jin when it's her actions that lead to Min Seok getting to know Hee-Jin.

Chapter 4: I feel like the body count is increasing since it looks like 3 people died in this chapter.
No offense to Eun Kyung but if you're trying to rekindle the love you and Min Seok had then you shouldn't be thinking of starting something with another guy.
