Elysium

Hidden In Plane Sight

The four people rushed upstairs like there was no tomorrow. They passed the cramped secret stairway surrounded by feeble looking white plasterboards. Their footsteps produced no sound even as they ran on each acrylic solid surface steps, realizing it only aided to conceal the killer’s whereabouts. The entire plane design was almost too advantageous for the killer.   They passed the cockpit that smelled so rotten they had to hold in their breath when passing through or suffer a nauseous case of vomiting. The row of empty seats finally came in sight, but their gaze was focused on the lavatory door that was indicated by its ‘vacant’ sign.   With careful and silent steps, they tiptoed their way to the lavatory, hoping it could catch their main suspect offguard. Baek Hyun knew hapkido and would therefore be a strong opponent. But when it was the four of them against one, they could still win.   “When do we go in?” Min Seok whispered, waiting for a cue from the others. They were standing with their back flat against the lavatories exterior, ready to ambush.   “Now!” Yerin gave the cue. And simultaneously, they all jumped up from their positions, kicking the door open with force and getting ready in a defensive pose.   They expected to find Baek Hyun in the middle of his action trying to torture the poor girl, but instead, he was lying unconsciously against the wall. His head hung low; dirty blonde hair covering his pale face. His arms seemingly had no bones by the way it laid against the cold surface of the floor.   “What’s going on? Is he- is he dead?” Hee-Jin was the first to ask, too confused to make up the right conclusion in her head.   “Did he kill himself?” Min Seok asked. His eyes scanned the surroundings, unable to identify an item that could’ve acted as a murder weapon. There were no splatters of blood painting the walls or floors; it was too clean.   “No, cause then Hyun Mi would’ve stayed here,” Kyung Soo muttered, stepping into the lavatory to check the pulse on Baek Hyun’s wrist. It remained still. He was no longer breathing. He came up with only one possible explanation in mind. “You know what this means, don’t you?”   Yerin stared at him, seeing that stern look in his eyes. And suddenly her eyes widened in realization at the possibility she feared most. “Hyun Mi is the killer?”   “No! She isn’t!” Hee-Jin immediately reacted. She grabbed Yerin by her shoulders and shook her back and forth, as if it would push away those painful thoughts.   “But what other explanation is there for Baek Hyun’s death? She must’ve escaped after she killed him,” Kyung Soo spoke.   “Or.. Or… Maybe she was chasing after the killer to avenge Baek Hyun?” Hee-Jin still tried. The others gave her a look of disbelief, and she realized how stupid her own suggestion sounded.   Min Seok joined in the lavatory and knelt down besides Baek Hyun’s lifeless body. He tried to examine for any clues they might’ve possibly missed.   “You know that’s impossible, Hee-Jin,” Yerin’s voice was trying to bring some sense back to the other, not doing anything as the girl stopped shaking her.   “The killer was her brother anyway. We should’ve known it was them all along,” Kyung Soo then said, snapping his fingers in frustration.   A part of Min Seok knew he had to go to Hee-Jin and comfort her now. Two of her beloved family members turned out to be crazy psychopathic murderers on the loose. She must’ve felt so devastated. He wanted to go and hug her current solemn state, but he was too focused finding fault in Baek Hyun’s seemingly flawless murder.   “I got it!” His loud voice interrupted the tension emerging between the others.   “What did you find?” Yerin quickly asked, kneeling beside him to watch a spot he was pointing at. She squeezed her eyes as small as possible, but still couldn’t see anything.   “What are we looking at?” Even Kyung Soo encountered the same problem.   “Right here,” Min Seok pointed towards Baek Hyun’s neck. It had taken them at least three careful examinations before they saw a transparent needle as small as an acupuncture needle stabbing his neck. There was no blood stain and it was perhaps the cleanest physical death they had seen.   “What is this?” Yerin asked, about to touch the item based on her curious journalists instincts. Her hand was quickly slapped away by Min Seok and Kyung Soo who knew much better.   “We don’t know what it does. It's better not to come in contact with it,” Kyung Soo warned her.   “Right, I’m sorry.” Yerin retracted her hands. What was she even thinking? Maybe she wasn’t even thinking anymore. The entire plane ride was draining her emotionally, mentally, and physically.   They all got up on their feet again, watching Hee-Jin still as devastated as before. She had barely moved an inch from the time they had seen her last. She bore the same look of bewilderment rather stiffly.   “It’s okay, honey.” Min Seok walked over to her, wrapping his arm around her. He guided her to rest against his chest, holding her back so firmly with one hand, and patting her head with the other. He could feel how stiff her entire body was. So many hesitations, and so many questions about the right and wrong.   “What now?” Yerin asked.   “We need to go down and put Baek Hyun’s body with the others.” Kyung Soo was already busy carrying the corpse, making sure he’d avoid any direct contact with the needle.   “Chan Yeol’s too.” Yerin’s bit her lips together, still not believing the guy was gone. He was really gone. She didn’t think she’d have to face seeing Chan Yeol’s dead body someday. She was wrong.   “And Sohee and Ho Seok. We better let them rest properly before the siblings come and chase us.” Min Seok looked at Hee-Jin who just flinched. He tried to refer to the killers as polite as possible.   The girl had a rather blank gaze as she suddenly began to stumble when taking small steps backwards. Her hands were searching blindly for the nearest seat, finally finding a nearby armrest, and slowly seated herself on the deep maroon colored seat.   “What’s wrong?” Min Seok asked her worriedly.   “I don’t think I can go…” Hee-Jin muttered. Her hand was hesitantly fiddling with the hem of her flight attendant skirt, and her eyes kept watching her do so. “I can’t… What if I see them? I’d surely break down...”   “I’ll be there with you.” Min Seok tried reassuring her. He squatted down on his knees, slightly cocked his head, and smiled at her adorably. “They won’t be able to lay a finger on you.”   “They’re still my family.” Hee-Jin said with a small exhale, looking at her boyfriend with big watery eyes. “They wouldn’t hurt me, right?”   Min Seok felt his heart weaken at the sight, losing focus on what he had to do. He knew it was going to be emotionally impossible for Hee-Jin to face both her cousins who were revealed to be the murderers all along. It was as if the cousins she had loved and cared for so deeply all this time was just a facade.   “Okay, I’ll stay with you,” he gave in.   “What about us?” Yerin questioned.   “We still need to carry the bodies downstairs,” Kyung Soo answered her.   “There are four bodies. We need to go back and forth,” she stated out loud in the hope the couple would feel sorry for them and eventually help them out. But no, Min Seok had already taken a seat next to Hee-Jin.   “Let’s go,” Kyung Soo prompted her. He adjusted Baek Hyun’s weight on his back and exited the lavatory.   “I’m sorry guys,” Hee-Jin muttered, seeing the way the other two shook their heads at her.   “It’s not your fault,” Kyung Soo told her quietly, which slightly made her smile that hour.   “It’s better for Min Seok to stay with you. You can’t be alone,” Yerin warned her wisely. She then nudged her head to Kyung Soo and led the way to the kitchen.   Ho Seok’s body was still lying on the floor with blood flowing out from both holes in his head. There were pieces of skin and meat to the side which used to be a part of him. The sight itself was sickening; supposed to be sickening. But after everything they had witnessed, they stood amazed at their ability to remain so immune to the monstrous sight.   “How are we gonna carry the other two?” Yerin asked, carefully taking a peek over the fence that still stood open. But when she discovered yet another mystery, she let out a yell of panic.   “What happened?” Kyung Soo asked, voice in a quiet whisper in case the killers were listening along.   “It’s gone! T- They’re gone!” Yerin gave Kyung Soo an abrupt look, cold sweat forming across her forehead. “Chan Yeol... And Sohee… They’re both gone.”   “What?!” Kyung Soo carefully set Baek Hyun down and took a peek for himself. She was right. The place where Chan Yeol’s body laid with Sohee on top of him was suddenly empty and spotless of any accidents, except for blood splatters.   “We didn’t put them in the frozen room,” he pointed out, finding it even stranger. The four had always stuck together and did not notice any suspicious behavior among each other.   “Who could’ve done it?” Yerin asked, staring at Kyung Soo who was wondering and thinking the same thing.   “Was it… Them?” Kyung Soo guessed, referring to the killers.   “But why would they leave Ho Seok’s body behind?” She questioned every possibility. She glanced over at the dead body by her side who remained there with the two holes in his head.   Kyung Soo nodded and once again piggybacked Baek Hyun’s body on his back. He pressed the elevator button and waited for their slow ride to arrive.   “Let’s just take care of these two corpses first.”   Yerin had some troubles carrying Ho Seok’s body. She had to halfway pull his body into the elevator, watching the dead body’s hand roll off to the side. There was something odd, something missing from him.   “Didn’t he have a gun?” She noted.   “Wasn’t it with Chan Yeol?” Kyung Soo asked, aiding Yerin to place the body into the elevator.   “I thought it was supposed to be with Ho Seok.” Yerin had a hard time remembering reality from false memories created in her head. Her exhaustion was causing her brain to function less properly.   “So what are you saying? The killers took it?” Kyung Soo asked, looking at the girl sternly.   She just shrugged and finally managed to put the entire body in the elevator. She couldn’t help but think something was off. Her mind continued to be deep in thought as she watched Kyung Soo close the fence and press the button.   “You know, three people just died without the killer’s involvement,” Yerin suddenly said. “I feel a lot of these murders were caused among ourselves. The killers managed to create a friction among us.”   “Are you sure?” Kyung Soo asked, adjusting Baek Hyun’s position so he wouldn’t fall off his back. “The way I see it, they have done more damage than we may have realized.”   “In what way?” She asked.   “Dong Woo is a hacker, isn’t he? He probably hacked into the airplane’s system to prevent any communication with the ground. He probably had access to a lot of things that caused people’s death,” Kyung Soo spoke.   Yerin flinched at his words, suddenly coming to realize something she hadn’t before. “Remember that time when Yoon Gi and Ji Yeon were trapped in the lavatory and no one noticed because the monitors suddenly displayed something? Or rather, nothing.”   “It must’ve been timed to distract us,” Kyung Soo muttered, also realizing how everything was planned.   “That means he must’ve been watching us and our movements this entire time. And if he had been in the cockpit all along, he would have had an easy access to do so,” Yerin said, growing more frustrated at how much detail they had missed.   “If only we had checked up on them. The person telling us not to disturb the pilots must’ve been Dong Woo all along.” Kyung Soo could only face the ground, ashamed he was partially at fault. He and all the flight attendants were supposed to keep everyone safe, but they failed.   “What about Hyun Mi? She was with us all the time. How is she the killer?” Yerin now posed a new question.   Kyung Soo scoffed a little, wondering how Yerin became this naive when she was supposed to research and report information for a living. “What is Hyun Mi’s occupation?” he asked.   Yerin blinked. “Motivational speaker.”   “What are they good at?” Kyung Soo asked further.   Yerin blinked once more. “They get in your head and change your mindset to become more positive.”   “Now reverse it. If used in a wrong way, they have the ability to get in our heads and let us think what they want us to think. Likewise, they can convince a group of people to believe in false truth that leads us further away from thinking it was her or her brother,” Kyung Soo told her, watching Yerin’s mouth fall agape with realization. “Hyun Mi can damage us emotionally and mentally.”   “Oh my...” Yerin wasn’t even able to continue her statement of surprise. As she recalled, Hyun Mi was the one who kept guilt-tripping Ho Seok until he finally killed himself. Whenever they had group discussions, Hyun Mi probably lead them to false theories. She had covered her brother’s identity well.   The elevator stopped down below and Kyung Soo opened the fence. He made sure everything was safe before he proceeded to go out. No one knew where the killers were hiding and therefore had to be more cautious.   He helped Yerin take Ho Seok’s body off the elevator, and together walked over to the frozen room. Truthfully, they had no idea why they were still doing this. Respecting and taking care of the dead bodies should be the least thing on their mind, but they couldn’t help but obey their moral conscience; whatever is left of it at least. They hoped this small action was able to cover up the big crimes they had committed in life. So that when karma came around, they’d be able to receive some mercy.   Yerin held the door open and watched as Kyung Soo placed the dead bodies inside. She looked at the ones inside, nearly all of them were covered in ice frost and were barely recognizable. She had a hard time remembering the fellow passengers. All she could do for now was to count them one by one.   “Aren’t there supposed to be 26 bodies in here?” She noted, feeling the bitterness in as she called out the large number of victims.   Kyung Soo looked up, frowning at her. “Kris, Nam Joon, and Mira’s body are still upstairs. Woo Hyun’s body is missing, but the killer probably took him. We have four current survivors.” He began counting everyone and realized they were indeed missing one.   “There are only 25 bodies inside,” Yerin spoke. “Someone’s missing.”   “Who?”   The two looked at the room where everyone was already frozen. There was barely a way to recognize a certain individual by now. The endless possible scenarios suddenly became so scary.   Why was there a need for a frozen room anyway? Which airplane would come with such a function? Why was there a secret passageway? Why did it have such a slow elevator? Why were the lavatories soundproof?   It was as if the entire airplane was designed to become their designated cemetery.   “Let’s go back,” Kyung Soo nudged her after all the bodies were placed there.   Yerin gave him a nod and watched him take lead when walking out. She cautiously watched their surrounding, fearful of a sudden ambush. The killers were sneakier than she had given them credit for, so she had to be on extra guard. So far, the coast seemed clear.   “Come on!” Kyung Soo motioned her, sprinting his way to the elevator. He kept flapping his arms to tell her to hurry up.   (Play Background Music)   Yerin was about to make a dash for it when she suddenly heard a small item drop on the floor. Her attention was distracted, and she turned her body around to look at the noise. A small pen laid in the middle of the floor; it was so out of the picture and she had no idea whom it belonged to. Therefore a successful distraction.   Kyung Soo’s shout was the next thing she heard, and when she shifted her focus back on him, she realized she had fallen into their trap.   Hyun Mi was standing in front of the elevator, closing its fence with force, and possessing what seemed like a key to make sure it would remain locked. The expression on her face was more lifeless than before.   “Let me out!” Kyung Soo had yelled, trying to reach his arm through the small holes of the fence to get to the key. But she was standing in a position where he couldn’t reach.   “Hyun Mi,” Yerin slowly called out. Just one glance at the smaller girl and one could barely tell how dangerous she was. There was an invisible dark aura emitting from her, which frightened Yerin. But she hoped their short period of friendship was able to reach through to her. “Let him go.”   “I wish I could, but I can’t.” Hyun Mi placed the key back in her pocket, staring at Yerin with an indifferent smile.   “You can stop all of these. I promise we won’t do anything to turn you two in. I will write an article to pledge your innocence. As long as you let us live,” Yerin tried negotiating for their life. And to her surprise, the other scoffed instead.   “Wrong thing to say. This just shows all the more reason why we need to get rid of you all,” Hyun Mi told her, still with that smile that seemed far more creepier now.   Yerin was at a loss, not knowing what to think. She knew they must have some sort of motive, though she wasn’t able to figure out what. She had to try again though. If Hyun Mi could get in their minds, maybe Yerin could get in hers.   “You don’t have to do this. Woo Hyun wouldn’t want you to,” she uttered, and indeed, watched the smile falter from the other. Anything related to her dead fiancé was bound to trigger some human reaction.   “You’re right, I don’t,” Hyun Mi admitted, and slightly cocked her head, “But he does.”   Yerin widened her eyes in shock, realizing she was forgetting one major thing. Hyun Mi was not working alone.   Before she even managed to turn around, she felt her hair being pulled roughly, forcing her entire body to spin around and meet Dong Woo face to face.   “Excuse me for this,” he said, continuing to twist her long hair to wrap around her neck. He pulled on the strands with brute force, and the girl immediately yelled out in pain. It was shutting off her air pipes, and the fact her hair felt it was being pulled from her scalps was too painful.   Yerin could barely scream, feeling her voice leave her the same way her breath began to diminish. Her face turned a shade of red at the lack of oxygen. She was struggling and moving around so much in the hope it would knock Dong Woo over. But the moment she managed to grab onto him, he twisted her hands in a way her bones began to crack. And then the grip around her hair tightened, constricting her neck until it left some red marks.   “Yerin!!!” Kyung Soo had yelled, trying whatever he could to get himself out of the fence. But there was no way out as long as the key was with Hyun Mi. “Let me out of here, you monster! I can’t just stand here and watch her get tortured like this!”   Hyun Mi gave him a side glance and began reaching in her pocket. “You can’t stand watching this?” She asked and took out a small, flat, and empty case in her hand.   With swift movements, she took out a transparent looking needle, which Kyung Soo recalled was found in Baek Hyun’s neck. The last thing he saw was Hyun Mi squinting at him before she threw something towards his direction.   “Ahhh!!! My eyes!!!” Kyung Soo yelled in horror, feeling something sting his eyeballs. It penetrated through the white part of his eyes, and his vision was immediately overtaken by darkness. He felt liquid coming out and knew at once it was the aqueous fluid leaking, mixed with some blood after hitting the blood vessel inside his eyeball. The pain was unbearable and he fell down on the ground, continuing to scream.   “You’ll grow numb to it soon and won’t feel the pain,” she had told him, her voice far from calm and slightly panicked even. “A venom will spread through your body and kill you.”   Kyung Soo was strangely enough comforted, knowing she was right. The physical pain became nothingness, and it was only the fear of the pain that caused him to hyperventilate. The way she had thrown those needles into both his eyes was done so well; targeted perfectly with seemingly such great accuracy. He knew this wasn’t her first time doing this, but he had no time to warn the others.   He slowly felt himself becoming more and more sleepy as even Yerin’s attempts to scream out for help was muted. He didn’t know whether he had stopped listening, or whether she had stopped screaming. All he knew was his system slowly shutting down to what he’d like to believe was a deep sleep. A very deep sleep he would never wake up from.   Yerin on the other hand felt her last drop of breath being exhaled. Dong Woo had placed her hair strands in , feeling herself about to gag when the back of was tickled by it. The lack of air was making her nauseous. It gave her an incredible headache. Then her entire vision blurred out, as did her last hold of survival. She was losing her strength to fight back. Her struggles slowed down. Her yelling faded out. Her breathing came to a stop.   She was gone.   Dong Woo carefully let go of her hair, carrying her lifeless body in his arms. He watched his sister unlock the elevator fence now. So he went back and forth to properly lay the two new bodies in the frozen room.   “You stabbed his eyes?” Dong Woo asked in shock, staring at her in disapproval.   “I missed,” Hyun Mi spoke, watching Dong Woo carry Kyung Soo’s dead body. He gave him the best spot in the room for always diligently carrying out the task of preserving everyone’s corpses.   “That can’t be true. We were all trained to be accurate aimers.” Dong Woo returned to his sister who was already waiting inside the elevator.   “Things happen, and I missed,” she insisted, pressing the button to go back up, a little harder than she intended.   Dong Woo decided not to question her further, knowing she was already too devastated to carry on. He felt sorry she had to do this even at her mourning state. But what could they do? They were mere puppets anyway.     Min Seok was just sitting there with Hee-Jin in silence; his attention divided. He wanted to comfort her and had his hand around her, rubbing her back in soothing circles. But he couldn’t help glancing towards the kitchen, wondering where the other two were and why it took them so long.   “Min Seok oppa,” she suddenly called, her hands fiddling with the DSLR camera she had taken from Myung Soo’s equipments. It was surprisingly still intact, and she was randomly scrolling through the picture gallery. Apparently, Myung Soo had started taking pictures of everyone back when they were still at the airport. Everyone was there; alive and well. She smiled along at the pictures. How wonderful would it have been if they could go back to that time?   “Hm?” His attention was back on her, looking at her with a loving smile to assure her he’d stay by her side.   “Tell me again, the things we are going to do when the plane lands,” she muttered softly under her breath. She adjusted her position to lean completely against his chest as he had his arms encircled around her. The camera was nestled in between her arms. It could come in handy for later.   “About the spa and the sightseeing?” He asked, referring to the ideal vacation he had told her about before she rejected him. It was probably a good way to distract their minds from the terror going on.   “Mm hm.” She nodded, snuggling herself closer to him while wrapping her body into a ball. She used his blazer to cover up her short skirt.   “Well, we can go travel to anywhere you like. I heard the beach there is amazing. The ocean is very blue and clear, while the sand is white in color.” He began painting a tropical picture in both their minds. “Then we could try to find those underwater snails, or whatever those animals are called.”   She laughed. “Or we can try and find matching pink shells.”   “That would be a better idea.” He pecked her head. “Isn’t Spain famous for their bullfighting? We should go check that out.”   “But aren’t they attracted to red? All the dresses I brought are red,” Hee-Jin pouted adorably, and he laughed.   “Even bulls can’t resist you. I’ll become a matador just to protect you,” Min Seok proclaimed confidently. And he loved the way she laughed at the image in her head. Her cheeks turned rosy pink now, maybe enjoying the mental image a bit too much. He wrapped his arms closer to her, tightening the hug.   He honestly did not know how long they had left to live, how long they had to try and endure. He did not know how he was supposed to fight off the killers knowing it was her beloved’ cousins. There were so many uncertainties swirling in his head. And yet, there was one thing he was certain of.   “I’ll protect you.”   Hee-Jin flinched a little at the words, feeling him plant another kiss on the top of her head. She squeezed her eyes shut once again, knowing he genuinely loved her. He was willing to sacrifice everything to be with her. And the thought itself stung.   Right at that moment, they thought they heard some rustling sounds coming from the cockpit. But after a closer listen, it derived from the kitchen instead. Yerin and Kyung Soo must’ve returned, so they got up on their feet, ready to reunite with them.   The fear reappeared on their face when they were met with the two everyone wanted to avoid. Dong Woo and Hyun Mi came walking out side by side, eyes immediately on Min Seok and Hee-Jin.   “Where are Yerin and Kyung Soo?” Min Seok dared himself to ask the question.   “Do you really wanna know?” Dong Woo asked, stepping forward as Hyun Mi quietly followed him from behind.   It did not take Min Seok a second longer to understand the other two were dead. He and Hee-Jin were currently the only survivors, and he was pretty sure the killers wouldn’t kill their own family members. Unless they were above and beyond psycho lunatics, then they’d all be in danger.   “Why are you doing this?” Min Seok asked watching as Dong Woo stopped right in front of them as Hyun Mi leaned against a seat not so further away. She looked dead by now and was reluctantly staring at the conversation.   “Because you are doing that,” Dong Woo answered with a small laugh, amused at how vague his own response was.   “What?”   “Oh, you know very well what I’m talking about. The very thing you wanted to hide so bad,” Dong Woo answered with a smile.   Min Seok widened his eyes, giving a small glance to Hee-Jin. He did not want her to know about the crimes he had committed. He could not get exposed for it now. Caught under the influence of his fearful anger, he did not think straight when he grabbed Dong Woo by his neck and pushed him to the other side of the seat, shoving his entire body against the wall.   “Min Seok oppa,” Hee-Jin yelled in fear, holding her breath from the anxiety.   “If that’s what it is about, then you better stop now. I can very easily use it against you. Even if I’m dead, I still have loyal men working for me who will put you and your sister behind bars.” Min Seok was gritting his teeth as he threatened them back, not realizing his hand was choking Dong Woo who gasped for air in the midst of his maniac-like laughter. The sight agitated him even more and he felt a bigger urge to strangle him to death.   “Let go, or you’re dead.”   Min Seok felt the tip of a steel knife poking the side of his neck. One wrong move, and he knew Hyun Mi would kill him to avenge her brother. He slowly released Dong Woo, and raised his arms mid air in surrender. He had to survive long enough to protect Hee-Jin.   Hyun Mi’s eyes never left him as she still had the knife pointed at him. He wanted to move back to his previous position, but heard sudden rustling noises coming from the cockpit again. He could only watch as Hyun Mi was distracted by someone else’s presence appearing from the cockpit.   “Don’t move, or you’re all dead!” The unexpected intruder appeared in front of the cockpit, holding the Glock handgun in her hand and aimed at them all by continuously switching her target point.   “Sohee?”   The rest were at a state of disbelief. Hyun Mi had a clear frown of shock, Dong Woo looked rather impressed at her twist, Min Seok was more than happy to have another comrade, and Hee-Jin was too devastated to display any emotion.   “We thought you were dead?” Hyun Mi asked with furrowed eyebrows.   “Surprise~” Sohee spoke enthusiastically before the excitement was wiped away within a split second. She stepped forward with the gun still aimed towards Hyun Mi and Dong Woo in particular.   “We saw you fall off the elevator,” Hyun Mi spoke.   “Well, Chan Yeol broke my fall. I’m amazed I don’t even have any scratches or anything.” Sohee shrugged casually.   Min Seok noticed Hyun Mi being distracted and quickly used this opportunity to attack her. He slapped her hand away, weakening her grip and took the knife from her fingers. And in no time, the table was turned. He was the one pointing a knife against Hyun Mi’s throat.   Hee-Jin gasped at the sight, but he had promised to do whatever it took to protect her. She may resent him for killing her cousin, but as long as she was safe, he was willing to live with the guilt and regret.   “Checkmate.” Sohee smirked, now aiming the gun to Dong Woo instead. The two killers were cornered. The survivors could win this. They could finish this off and end the entire plane ride massacre.   The two siblings were eyeing each other, which made the other two more nervous. They may be formulating a plan to fight back which Sohee and Min Seok couldn’t allow to happen.   “Do it now, Sohee!” Min Seok gave a cue. It was now or never, they had to kill or be killed. So they chose to kill.   As the two got ready to attack, they suddenly felt something heavy hit the back of their head. Dong Woo and Hyun Mi hadn’t done anything, but it caused the two survivors to fall down against the ground. They were knocked out of their consciousness. But right before their eyelids were closed, they saw a sight they didn’t even dare to think of.   Hee-Jin was holding the DSLR camera she had used to hit them with.     When they regained their consciousness around the same time, Min Seok and Sohee realized they were no longer at the upper floor. They were transported to the lower, darker, and much grimmer floor; only one metal door apart from the dead bodies.   Their head still hurt from the way Hee-Jin had presumably swung the camera against them. The two tried to move around, but realized their hands were tied behind their back. They were seated on the floor, their backs facing each other. There was still an attempt to free themselves which went unnoticed by the other three, until someone suddenly gasped.   “They’re awake!” Hyun Mi shifted the attention back on the two hostages.   Min Seok and Sohee flinched, both stopped moving. Their eyes now fell on Hee-Jin who was standing among the killers, seemingly abusing their family status to be safe.   “Hee-Jin, don’t hang out with monsters like them. You’re different,” Min Seok tried to knock some sense into her head. But he frowned in silence when the girl gave him an apologetic smile and and shook her head.   “I am no different; I’m as much of a monster as they are,” she confessed.   The two were too baffled to even react. Their mouth fell open, forming a big O shape, watching the three family members face them so indignantly. This was so sudden they couldn’t even comprehend. They had always believed there were only two killers, not three.   But things started to make a lot more sense now with Hee-Jin’s addition to the team. There were a lot of murders that required an insider, someone who had access to the airplane itself, they assumed. This may be how all lavatories ended up being locked from the outside whenever its occupant was dying.   “Wait, so the chat between Robin Hood and Joan D’Arc, who was that?” Sohee suddenly remembered. She watched a frown sinking on both Hyun Mi and Hee-Jin’s face as both turned to Dong Woo with a quizzical look.   “Both were me,” Dong Woo laughed, scratching the back of his head.   “What is this about?” Hee-Jin asked softly.   “There is a chatroom option in this plane. So I hacked into the system to create two different accounts to chat with myself as if I was two people. They were suspecting me to be alive, so I had to throw them off track,” Dong Woo argued.   “When was that?” Hyun Mi asked, not remembering this as part of the plan.   “Right after you subtly planted the idea in Chi Yeon’s head that remaining alone in isolation wo

Chapter 14: I finally finished this today! This might be my top favorite mystery story here.
I also read the blog posts about the random facts of the story and I love how much research is put into the story. I like the foreshadowing used in scenes that I never paid close attention to like how the killers did their thing without no one suspecting them.
Of course, I will be reading the prequel, "The Target".

Chapter 12: I guess I was right about who Sheep is but I didn't expect who Wolfie is. Remember how in one of my earlier comments I mentioned how I suspected one person of being a killer.
Mira and Sohee are like the examples of friends for life but when it comes to death, one wants to survive and won't hesitate to get rid of the other to make sure they live longer.

Chapter 11: I started this story with Hee-Jin being a character whose storyline I'm interested in but now it's Hyun Mi who caught my interest. I nearly thought she did die in this chapter but luckily she's still alive. I like how Hee-Jin is taking her relationship with Minseok slow, it might also be because she doesn't want to get together with him after Eun Kyung died.
Mira and Hyerim found one killer, which means one of the other survivors is the 2nd one.

Chapter 10: Is it bad that I hate Hyerim because of how she manipulates Seong Yeon? Also, poor Hyun Mi, she lost the love of her life.
Reading about Seong Yeon's death scene made me think of that one scene in "Halloween 2" where Michael Myers uses boiling water to kill a nurse at the hospital. I turn away from the screen when that scene pops up. I can handle reading gore but seeing it in movies. dramas or video games just disgust me.

Chapter 9: Not going to lie but I like how everyone is suspecting one another to be the killer. They don't realize that they're slowly making it easier for the killer to get rid of them.
I think I, maybe, kind of got an idea who one of the killers might be. Something that happens in this chapter made me realize that the person is doing it as revenge for what the others did to them.

Chapter 8: No offense to Sung Yeol, Seong Yeon, and Mira but that is no way to prove someone is a killer, it's more of falsely accusing an innocent. I like how Hyun Mi points out how she trust Woo Hyun and knows he isn't the killer.
I still wonder how can Sung Yeol tell that it's Suho based on the killer's height, some of the other guys might be a similar height. Then I suddenly have a thought that maybe the killer could be one of the girls.

Chapter 7: I'm getting the idea that everyone on the plane must have or may have once committed a crime and the killer is delivering their form of justice against them. Also, something tells me that plan to fake a death might backfire and the person who pretends might die from it.
Since I watch a lot of horror/thriller films, I feel like there might be more than one killer. Like one does the killing and the other one kind of tells the killer where the victims are.

Chapter 6: I feel like elevators are the most dangerous unexpected weapon to kill a person because you never know when something bad will happen when you're in one.
I also began noticing that all the characters say something that makes me suspicious of them. It's like very common of each of them to begin accusing one another because the person they suspect does something suspicious, that might end up backfiring on them especially if they're wrong about the culprit.

Chapter 5: I still find it weird for people to be doing "things" in an airplane bathroom.
The part where Eun Kyung hit Hee-Jin made me nearly think Hee-Jin might be the next to die. I like how she talked back to Eun Kyung who cheated on Min Seok first but have the nerve to get angry at Hee-Jin when it's her actions that lead to Min Seok getting to know Hee-Jin.

Chapter 4: I feel like the body count is increasing since it looks like 3 people died in this chapter.
No offense to Eun Kyung but if you're trying to rekindle the love you and Min Seok had then you shouldn't be thinking of starting something with another guy.
