You're Just a Touch Away (But That's Still Too Far Away)
t/n: Yoongi and Jungkook are stepbrothers and they're 2 years apart here.
Cycle 07
“Hyung,” Jungkook rubs his thumb gently on his brother’s unmarked wrist. “how did it feel like?” he finishes off his sentence timidly. He knows this is a sensitive topic for his brother. His brother is already 20 years old but he never got his soulmate’s name imprinted on his wrist. Everyone else would get their soulmate’s name on their wrist the moment they reach the age of 18.
They’re sitting on his brother’s bed. Jungkook is three days away from his 18th birthday and he’s nervous about it. Thus, leads to this conversation. His brother isn’t looking at him when he answers the question.
“At first, it was hard to believe because it’s a rare case to begin with. Being a lone soul.” there is a slight pause before his brother continues. “It hurt to finally realize that you’re not meant for anyone. It felt as if you’re just a waste of space”
Jungkook squeezes his brother’s wrist gently.
“but with time, I learned to just get over it” his brother says.
His brother then turns to look at him and give him a warm smile. Jungkook brings his brother’s wrist close to his face. He closes his eyes before he kisses his brother’s wrist lovingly; exactly on where the soulmate’s name was supposed to appear. He opens his eyes and looks straight into his brother’s soothing eyes; lips never leaving the wrist.
“You have me, hyung” Jungkook murmurs “I’m always yours” he adds. That night, they fall asleep while holding each other closely.
Jungkook stares at his wrist. He is finally 18 and a name has appeared. Tears silently flow down his cheek. 민윤기 (Min Yoongi). He scrunches up his eyes; making more tears trail down his cheeks. If his brother knows the feeling of not being meant for anybody, then Jungkook knows the feeling of not being able to have what was meant for him at all.
t/n: 'lone soul' - a term I use to describe a person without any soulmates name. Please let me know if anyone knows the correct term for it because I seriously have no idea what they're referred as.
