Cycle 57

Yoongi sits on the edge of his bed, facing the window. He guesses the wind is blowing gently since the leaves are swaying gracefully. He rolls up the sleeve of his t-shirt and runs his thumb over his soulmate mark. He hears the door creak open and he tilts his body, only to see his dear wife smiling sweetly at him. Yoongi returns the smile.

They have just come back from visiting his wife’s late husband’s grave. It’s been 5 years since his wife’s first husband, Jaeseop, passed away due to a heart disease. Yoongi met his wife three years after Jaeseop’s death and proposed to her two years after knowing each other. Seumi, his wife, sits beside him and rests her head on Yoongi’s shoulder. Yoongi kisses the crown of her head. She takes Yoongi’s left hand into her lap. She tilts her head to look at her husband, silently asking permission. She knows Yoongi is a little reserved about his soulmate mark, though he won’t admit it. Yoongi smiles reassuringly at her. They fall into a peaceful silent, enjoying each other’s presence. Seumi delicately holds Yoongi’s wrist and caresses the soulmate mark with his thumb. Yoongi hums at the soothing gesture.

“How did it feel like,” his voice is hesitant as he continues “when you met Jaeseop?”

Seumi raises her head from Yoongi’s shoulder, turning her tender gaze towards Yoongi.

“It’s felt like,” she trails off as she reminiscent the day she first met Jaeseop, “like you’re suddenly aware of the emptiness that you never thought you had before but it vanishes as soon as it appears because finally, finally you met them. And all you feel right after that are completeness, content and fulfillment.” She tilts her head to the side and smiles.

Yoongi holds her hand a little tighter; unsure whether he’s trying to comfort her or himself.

“When I met you, Yoongi, it was different.” Yoongi holds his breath; he doesn’t know whether he wants her to continue. “At first, I was confused and full of doubt. I was lost and very insecure,” her voice is barely audible when she continues “you haven’t met your soulmate.”

“Seumi, honey, I tol–”

“I know.” She leans her head on Yoongi’s shoulder again. “When you proposed me, it was an ineffable feeling. I was so grateful to be given a second chance to feel complete again. It felt like I can finally breathe properly again. It was like- like you have revived some part of me that died when Jaeseop passed away.”

 Yoongi places his hand on Seumi’s cheek and kissed her. Seumi takes Yoongi’s hand that she has been caressing before and leads the hand to her tummy.

“Yoongi,” she whispers and Yoongi pulls away to look at her. Seumi suddenly shies away and looks down on Yoongi’s hand on her tummy.

“What is it?” Yoongi asks and somehow it makes Seumi blush even deeper.

“I-I’m, I’m pregnant.” She says before tilting her head up to look at Yoongi.

To say Yoongi is shocked by the sudden news is an understatement. He gulps; trying to fathom what he just heard few seconds ago. His wife is pregnant. She’s carrying his baby, their baby. He’s going to be a father.

“M-mommy?” a small voice calls out. Both Yoongi and Seumi turn their heads to the voice to see Jaemin. Jaemin is Seumi’s daughter with Jaeseop but Yoongi has always considered and treated her like his own child.

“Yes, sweetheart?” Seumi gestures her to come. Jaemin walks timidly and when she comes near enough, Yoongi pulls her up on his lap.

“What does my little princess want?” Yoongi asks but Jaemin just shakes her head. Seumi then caresses Jaemin’s cheek.

“Jaemin, you’re going to be a big sister soon,” Seumi whispers gently; smile never fading from her face. “Mommy is pregnant.”

“I am going to have a sibling?” Jaemin asks and tilts her head to the side.

“Yes, darling. You’re go–” Seumi barely finishes her sentence when Jaemin suddenly leaps from Yoongi’s lap to hug her. She chuckles at the cute action.

“Yay!” the little girl cheers and Yoongi, too, chuckles.

“Now come, let mommy makes some snacks for you.” Seumi then leads Jaemin to the kitchen. Yoongi stands up and look at the window again. Then, back at his wrist.

“Maybe in another life,” he whispers “Maybe in another life, we’ll be as happy as I am in this life, Jungkook.”

Yoongi smiles and tugs his sleeve down then proceeds to join his family in the kitchen.

a/n: I don't know why but I feel a little embarrassed with this chapter. Seumi and Jaemin are totally fictional characters so don't bother searching for them on the internet. As for Jaeseop, he's a fictional character, too, but if you know me well, you'd know which Jaeseop is this.
