The Emotion
Oxycontin, Cigarettes, and Sunflowers“I talked to Jongin the other day,” Baekhyun says, setting down a cup of tea in front of Kyungsoo. “I think you should take him up on his offer. Change would be good for you, there’s too much around here that’s hurting you.”
“I don’t want to just leave you behind,” Kyungsoo replies, taking a sip of the tea. “You’ve helped me through everything and I can’t just throw all of that away.”
Baekhyun sits down, shaking his head and lets out a small laugh. “Typical Kyungsoo. After everything he’s been through, he’s still trying to protect everyone.” He plays with the tea bag before setting it down in a bowl on the table. “Quit worrying about me. Besides, it’s not like we’ll never be able to see each other again. There’s Skype, phone calls, texts, planes.”
“I….I don’t know. I still feel like I’d just be running away from my problems.”
“Just go. Try it out and see how you like it. If you don’t like it, then just come back home. We’ve always got room here,” Baekhyun says, pointing his thumb over at the couch in the living room.
“How thoughtful,” Kyungsoo jokes, taking another sip. “I’ll think about it.”
“Are you ready?” Jongin asks, walking into the bathroom. “Baekhyun’s downstairs loading up the car.”
Kyungsoo looks down at the floor where he overdosed a few months before. It still gives him a bad feeling each time he walks into this bathroom, but now it gives him a sense of relief. He was in such a dark place before and now he’s better. He’s better than he was in college, he’s better than he was with Kris, he’s better than he was.
He turns around and smiles at Jongin before nodding. Jongin gives him a soft smile back and walks up to him, wrapping his arm around Kyungsoo’s shoulders and giving him a light kiss on the forehead. “You’re gonna be okay.”
As they walk through the apartment to make sure they got everything, Kyungsoo can’t help but feel sad. His home for so many years is now empty and bland. He sold all of his furniture and packed up all of his sentimentals. All of those boxes are probably already in France, sitting in Jongin’s living room just waiting to be put away.
Jongin is holding Kyungsoo’s hand tightly and watching as he looks at the empty living room and front entrance. They walk down the steps and down to the front of the complex where Taeyeon and Baekhyun are standing next to the car, talking and giggling about something. When they see Jongin and Kyungsoo, they stop and Baekhyun looks over at Kyungsoo and smiles. “Looks weird, doesn’t it?” Baekhyun asks, messing up Kyungsoo’s hair. In return, Kyungsoo punched Baekhyun hard in the arm and rolls his eyes.
Jongin opens up the door and lets Kyungsoo climb into the backseat before getting in himself and Baekhyun and Taeyeon take the front seat. They pull away from the building.
It’s almost a quiet ride, except Baekhyun makes a bad joke and Taeyeon starts yelling at him for even letting it slip out of his mouth. While they’re complaining, Kyungsoo jumps when he feels a hand rest over his. He looks over at Jongin who’s looking out the window boredly, and Kyungsoo can’t help but smile.
The airport isn’t busy for a Tuesday morning, and Baekhyun pulls up along the side of the building and pops the trunk to help pull out the bags.
“Now you have your tickets and passports, right?” Baekhyun starts asking when he closes the trunk. “And you know to stick together and make it to your gates on time, right?”
Kyungsoo rolls his eyes. “Yes, mom, we have everything.”
“Baekhyun, I’ve made this trip more than once,” Jongin says, letting out a laugh as he pulls a bag over his shoulder. “We’ll be fine.”
Baekhyun chews on his lip. “Come here you beautiful bastards,” he says, pulling them both in for a hug. “I know I said I was okay with this, and I still am, but I’m gonna miss you guys.”
“We’re gonna miss our plane,” Jongin complains.
Baekhyun lets out a groan and pulls away. “You better take care of him, Kim Jongin, or so help me god, I will be on the next plane to France and find you.” Jongin stops himself from rolling his eyes and when Baekhyun looks over at Kyungsoo, they both get tears in their eyes.
“This isn’t a goodbye,” Kyungsoo says quietly. “It’s just a see you later.”
Baekhyun doesn’t say anything and instead just turns around. “Okay, go, you guys are gonna miss your plane.”
Kyungsoo lets out a laugh and pats Baekhyun’s shoulder before grabbing his luggage and following Jongin inside the airport. And for once in his life, he felt truly happy.
