Family Outing (Part 3: Beautiful Night)

Risk

She turned her head to the right, then to the left, and now she’s staring at the ceiling while lying on her bed.

“What time is it?” Taeyeon reached over to her phone.

It says 1:28 am.

“Why can’t it be at least 4:28 am? Why does time run so fast when you’re running late, and when you’re in a hurry, it’s so slow?” she mumbled to herself as she got up.

Taeyeon took her robe and went out of her room, barefooted.

She stepped down the stairs carefully making sure she won’t wake the others up.

She noticed something’s wrong.

The lights from the kitchen were on.

“Umma?” Taeyeon called out.

“Tae-Tae?”

“Fany! Why are you up?” she walked closer to the girl at the breakfast table.

Tiffany had a tiring smile on her face.

“Just grabbed some water.” She held the glass up.

“What about you Tae?”

“Uhmm. Same Fany.” She tried to lie but Fany knew what Taeyeon was hiding something.

“Tae, have I told you that you’re a bad liar?” Tiffany gave her a smirk

“That’s my line!” Taeyeon started to laugh.

“Spill it Tae-tae.” Tiffany giggled.

“I can’t sleep.” Taeyeon straightly said as she sat beside Tiffany on the breakfast table.

“Why?”

“I don’t Fany.”

“They said if you can’t sleep, something’s bothering you.” Tiffany’s voice was getting worried.

“It’s nothing Fany. I just thought about something.”

“What something?” Tiffany curiously asked.

“Just forget about it Fany. Come!” Taeyeon grabbed onto Tiffany’s wrist. Her smile was full of innocence like a kid pulling her friend to play.

She slipped the slippers that were laid on the floor beside the main door.

“Where are we going?” Tiffany asked as she let out a squeal.

“To my play ground.” The short girl happily answered as they quietly left the house.

Taeyeon dragged the clueless Tiffany to the cold night.

They were meters away from the house.

They were inside a small corner of a big tree when Taeyeon suddenly stopped.

“We’re here!” Taeyeon announced.

“What’s this? Sand box?”

“Yup! When I was little I used to play here. No one knows about this place actually.” Taeyeon smiled as she went nearer.

“Oh! The care taker also knows about this place. Just the two of us.” She added.

The place was covered with a dirty blue clothe.

Both ends were tied on a branch from the big tree that was covered by its leaves.

“Tae.” Tiffany spoke softly as she saw how big Taeyeon’s smile was.

“Yes Fany?” Taeyeon picked the two small twigs on the side of the covered area.

Tiffany can see it through the young girl’s eyes that this place isn’t just another playground, it has a deeper meaning for Taeyeon and she’s lucky that she got invited to this place.

Taeyeon’s face lit up in the dark night, only a few light from the post by the tree could be seen.

“Fany, can you help me?” Taeyeon was like a little girl, working hard to start a fire.

“Hahaha!” Tiffany gave out a laugh.

“That’s not how you do it Tae-Tae.” She grabbed the twigs and matches from Taeyeon’s cold hands.

She squatted on the ground and arranged the twigs carefully.

She used the dried leaves from the side and lit it with the matches like a pro.

Tiffany then inserted the fast burning leaves to the twigs and added more leaves.

Taeyeon stood beside her, amazed.

“There!” Tiffany proudly said as she stood up.

“Sorry Fany. Before, I used to bring a lamp here when I come at night.”

Tiffany just gave her a smile.

“How’d you do that?” Taeyeon then motioned her friend to sit beside her on a big root that got out from the ground.

“It’s just something I learned from Yoona. She used to join camps before.” She answered with a shiver.

“Fany, you’re cold.” Taeyeon’s puppy eyes showed up.

“I think we should go inside now.”

“No! We just got here. Plus, I still wanna play.” Tiffany tried her best to show Taeyeon that she can do it, but a sneeze slipped out.

“Achoo!” her cute sneeze made Taeyeon smile.

“Haha! See, you’re cold.”

“Well, a little. But Tae-tae, I wanna play with your toys here.” She picked a blue bucket and a shovel.

Tiffany then started to make small sand castles.

“Woo—“ Tiffany wrinkled her forehead.

“Tae, how come it never stay still?” she whined.

“Haha. That’s because you need water Fany.” Taeyeon took a plastic bowl from the stock of toys.

“I’ll be back.”

“Wait! Tae-tae, it’s cold. You might get—“ Tiffany’s words didn’t stop Taeyeon.

After a few seconds, Taeyeon arrived with the bowl full of water.

“Here! Let me help you.” The childish Taeyeon offered.

With Tiffany as her assistant, they were able to build a beautiful sand castle. Not that perfect, but for the two, it was satisfying.

“Wow Tae, it’s beautiful.” The younger girl clasped her hands.

“Now can we get inside Fany?” Taeyeon yawed.

“Hahaha. Sure Taeng let’s go.” they turned the fire off and left the sand castle they built.

They creped inside the dark house, trying to find the stairs.

“AW!” a bang was heard.

“You ok Tae-tae.” Tiffany reached her hand, trying to find Taeyeon.

“Yeah. Just bumped into a, table?”

“Be careful. I think we should just turn on the light.”

“Yeah! Good idea.”

Taeyeon moved her hands through the wall trying to look for the switch.

After a few seconds, Tiffany found it.

“Thanks.” Taeyeon smiled.

“Tae, you’re bleeding.”

“Huh?” Taeyeon bowed her head to where Tiffany was staring.

She found her knee with blood.

“It’s not that big Fany.”

“Not big? It’s bleeding. Wait, sit down Tae-tae I’ll get the 1st aid kit.”

Tiffany ran to the kitchen, she then ran to the stairs.

Taeyeon was just following her with her eyes and laughed.

“Hahahaha. Beside the shelf at the kitchen near the stove.

“You should’ve told me that before.” Tiffany ran back to the kitchen.

“Careful, you might trip.” Taeyeon smirked.

“Sit! I’ll clean up your wound.”

Tiffany slowly cleaned the small cut on Taeyeon’s knee.

“Ah ah ah. Careful Fany.”

“I thought you’re tough.”

“I am. It just stings.” Taeyeon was slightly pulling her leg.

“Stay still Kim Taeyeon.” Tiffany scolded the small girl.

Taeyeon followed her.

After a few clean ups, Tiffany was done.

“There!”

“Thanks Nurse Hwang.” Taeyeon patted Tiffany’s head.

“Now, as your nurse, I shall ask you to back to your room and sleep, ok?”

Taeyeon gave her a cute nod and stoop up.

“Here. Let me help you.” Tiffany helped Taeyeon up the stairs and into her blue room.

“Now sleep well. Good night Tae-tae.” Tiffany gave her a flying kiss.

“Thanks Nurse Hwang. Good night.”
