A Spring Fling

Three days later without seeing each other, Kyuhyun and his confused mind ventured into a trip headed to Ryeowook's university campus.

He had been wondering a lot about the words shared by the older man, especially on the thing about Kyuhyun being wrongly in love with the mere feeling of love.

Perhaps, Kyuhyun thought, Ryeowook was somehow right.

Come on, he had never been interested in any man in his whole life, and the first time he had entered the Kims' household he was still crying over how badly his relationship with In Hye had ended, therefore he wasn't supposed to feel any sort of attraction towards Ryeowook in the first place.

But he was scared, all the same, by how candidly Ryeowook could influence him with one-sided decisions; he was confused by that odd feeling of pleasure running through his body after physically owning him; he was devastated when he had understood that in their s kissing was missing, and with it a great part about feeling Ryeowook's closeness to him as well.

Kyuhyun couldn't understand though, whether he was simply enjoying the curious role of Ryeowook's fake boyfriend, or actually asking for him to notice that their play could turn out to be something more, something mutual.

But the day he realized he had to find the courage to make that relationship advance, was the day Ryeowook made it all crumble down like a castle made of sand. The reason was unknown, perhaps Ryeowook was scared as well?

"This was exactly why we shouldn't have kissed the first time..."

You made me promise never to kiss you, but you broke the promise at the same time.

"You are straight first of all, and having with me doesn't mean that you might feel something deeper for me than the slight feeling of curiosity for something new happening to you"

I know. I'm straight and I don't like men, but you are different. You make me want to do everything I've never done. I'm curious. You make me want to crawl down at your feet and beg you to notice me, because yes, I'm straight, but I might quit to be just for you.

"...most importantly...there's no us going on"

Please, the truth hurts so much...too much. Lie to me, lie with all your heart and tell me we may be something good, something great, together.

"...so please...forget it all! You don't even know me! You don't know what I like, what I hate, you don't know who I am!"

I can't. I can't forget it all, especially when I'll be on the other side of the planet and everything I could do then will be dreaming your face when I close my eyes at night; looking for your shining eyes in the starry skies; buying the same perfume as you just to have the illusion to breathe your scent on a daily basis. I wished I could make you believe I'm worth to befriend. I want to know your favorite color, what movie makes you laugh the most, which one you hate. Your hobbies, your friends...your perfect, imaginary date, which I want to enact with you.

"You just like the thought of being in love"

But then... You're right. I don't love you. I never will. But even this hurts so bad, because I won't have enough time to fall in love with you in the first place.

Doing his long mental monologue, during which he went over the fight with Ryeowook and what exactly this one had said to him, Kyuhyun didn't realize he had bumped into someone on his way to the senior campus. He understood it only when a sharp pain hit him on the shoulder and hr noticed there was a man crouching on the pebbled road in order to quickly collect papers, scattered here and there.

Kyuhyun briefly turned around and saw him busy at stuffing them all away in a briefcase, but forgetting one or two that he hadn't seen anywhere near him.

With a swift move, he grabbed them both and jogged after the busy man.

Kyuhyun blushed as he handed both papers to this handsome black haired man that appeared too kind and gentle in his eyes.

He wasn't concerned about a stranger eventually reading his stuff, instead he only smiled wider when he got the papers back, showing his gratitude to the man who had found his missing work.

Then, the mysterious man swiftly disappeared, leaving Kyuhyun struck in awe as he tried to print the image of the meeting in his memory: the man was a tad shorter than he was, but this one was impeccably dressed in a black long coat, had his briefcase in hand, milky white fair complexion and sleek dark hair. His eyes were small, but smiley like two crescents, as if someone had used a couple of from a brush to paint them just slightly more accentuated than normal. They conveyed infinite kindness and tenderness, especially when coordinated with that disarming smile of his, one that could have caught many hearts.

"Kyuhyun!" he was called with loud voice and Kyuhyun immediately turned around after already losing the strange man from sight.

Sungmin was walking rather quickly towards him, grabbing his arm as soon as he had reached him while showing him a big, radiant smile "What are you doing here?" he asked, completely surprised.

"I am looking for Ryeowook, to be honest" he said with a little shrug of his shoulders. Somehow, meeting Sungmin was putting him in a rather uneasy position, though he didn't know why.

Sungmin's eyes rolled a little bit, his face conveyed sadness and disappointment over the news, but not surprise: "You will never find him here. This is the Arts Faculty, while he's enrolled in to the Science area. I'll take you there, if you want"

Kyuhyun nodded, accepting the invitation, a bit uncomfortable with the fact that Sungmin was grabbing him and almost aggressivley escorting him as he linked his arm with Kyuhyun's. He tried to pull it away, but Sungmin was stronger.

"So...I thought you two attended the same classes" Kyuhyun started, wanting so bad to break the heavy silence.

Sungmin shook his head and giggled: "Are you sure to know Ryeowook that much?" he asked, amused "I'm enrolled in to the Music and Composition faculty, I play the guitar. While Ryeowook chose to study chemistry. He says it's not his highest inspiration in life, but it's quite a solid area to land jobs if he happened to fail with running after his dreams"

"...which are?" Kyuhyun asked again, wanting to deepen the topic as much as he could, to grasp more bits about Ryeowook's tastes and life.

"He wanted to do music as well, but quit after he was kind of involved in a fight with our former professor" Sungmin scoffed, sounding quite annoyed by the mere memory of it.

"What happened?" Kyuhyun followed the smaller man on green, grassy fields and still couldn't help but letting out curious questions one by one.

"Uhm, it's a long story" Sungmin dismissed the topic with yet another shrug of the shoulders "Plus, it's really something I am not entitled to disclose to anyone" he suddenly turned around and Kyuhyun had to halt in his tracks, or he would have crashed against Sungmin and his funny hamster-like-narrowing-eyes face.

"Anyways..." he slowly spelled the word in a few syllables, as if he were conducting an investigation based on his suspicions "...what's truly going on between Ryeowook and you?" he poked Kyuhyun's chest with his forefinger and looked at him from a bunch of inches lower than the man's chin-level.

"What?" Kyuhyun blurted, not able to control his blush anymore and feeling oh-so-red in the face already.

"Come on..." Sungmin insisted, getting in the way as Kyuhyun was trying at least to dodge him and lead the way "You two look a lot closer than the beginning. If I recall well, he wanted to kill you the very first time, while now..."

"If you assume we're a sort of a couple, then forget it. We are definitely not!" Kyuhyun's words rushed out without any prior mental check. He really slapped himself on the forehead as he cursed his damn mouth for telling such a notion.

Sungmin's eyes buzzed open and his mouth followed soon after.

"I... I don't think I've ever...assumed as much" the blondie blabbered in a few stammers "You just look closer... and though you two bicker like a true couple, I wasn't saying you...well...you know. I wasn't saying you two were a true couple, you said it"

Kyuhyun tried to avoid Sungmin's stares, but it was kinda difficult at that point. He was already scarlet in the face, had blurted out unwanted words, was thinking on how to dodge uncomfortable questions...and yet again that strange behavior of his was telling more contrasting things than his tentative lies wanted to cover.

He averted his eyes from Sungmin's piercing stare and stopped moving around the smaller man to try to surpass him.

Sungmin sighed then, grabbing his bigger hand in his own and gently tugging him in order to let him advance of some more steps. They soon resumed walking and Sungmin turned his head to the right, so to look at the disquiet feeling that was reigning on Kyuhyun's childish pout.

"Do you like him?" he asked in a soft blow of air, almost a whisper.

Kyuhyun's heart skipped a few beats, his ribcage had become too small to contain the mixture of sadness and infinite affection he felt towards the situation he was stuck into. A nervous laugh to clear his voice broke the silence and he found himself lowering his head in a consent nod.

"I understood it" Sungmin commented, with his own sad smile curving on the lips, just as harsh as Kyuhyun's own current state of heart.

"I got it when we hung out together and you were unconsciously clingy and worried for him at the same time. I got it when I tried to let you know my presence, but I was totally transparent, invisible for you. Kyuhyun, I like you too, but I guess Ryeowook is like a breath of fresh air for you" Sungmin revealed, kind and caring, totally selfless for once in a while.

And Kyuhyun was more confused than ever.

"And...I saw you two as well a few nights ago. During our cinema date, the night we ended up watching movies at Ryeowook's place" he explained, nervously clearing his voice with little coffs here and there, evidently uncomfortable "I mean, I didn't want to spy on you or what...I just ended up there and..." Sungmin's rushed explanation stopped, as well as his furious hand gestures mid-air.

Kyuhyun, who was silently following the other man, recalling the night he was mentioning, suddenly halted in his tracks yet again. His face paled all of a sudden and he got rigidly frozen on his spot.

"I know!" the blondie exclaimed, stretching both hands in Kyuhyun's direction as if to both give the illusion of providing a better justification and shield himself at the same time "I know, I am terribly sorry! I shouldn't have...it was your intimacy then and..."

"What exactly did you see?" after a few attempts during which he tried to regain control of his lost voice, Kyuhyun suspiciously blinked a couple of times and addressed the question to the now blushing man.

"Come on, I didn't actually got to see anything in truth. The door of Ryeowook's bedroom wasn't totally close and the crack of it let a small sight on the reflection of the mirror, and you were..." Sungmin shrugged first and then hugged himself, averting his eyes from Kyuhyun's harsh stare.

...beautiful... he wanted so terribly to say, because even though Kyuhyun was in the arms of another man that night (and he was dead envious about that) Sungmin couldn't help but keep encouraging his own heart to feel the primal emotions of falling in love at first sight.

"...you were in his arms, having with him" he added, scruching up his eyes close, almost as if in fear of being hit.

Silence fell at full force, faster than a lightning bolt.

Kyuhyun quickly walked ahead, eyebrows furrowed in a kind of angry and deceived frown, he did not even bother to wait for Sungmin, who was jogging at his side to keep the pace.

"I said I'm sorry, Kyuhyun! I'm not that kind of man, I would never do anything similar, I swear" he tried to convince him, the anguish in his pleading tone getting too much to bear "Maybe he was only drunk, probably you were too..." Sungmin counted the possibilities on his fingers, perfectly knowing there was no chance in the world that the two of them might have been drunk then.

Because he remembered falling asleep due to the extreme boring plot of the movie, because there was no alcohol included in their midnight snacks, because he had learnt that Kyuhyun wasn't the type to get hung over until he could loose his senses.

"There's a thing called privacy, you know?!" Kyuhyun's voice agitatedly rose, hurt in his pride for getting to know that someone had actually seen him act his personal deal with Ryeowook, while the two of them had sworn complete secrecy to it.

"I'm sorry, I said-" Sungmin's eyes widened at one point. He stopped right in the hall of a building that Kyuhyun noticed to be the entrance of the Science Department, the one which hosted the Faculty where Ryeowook was enrolled into.

Kyuhyun followed with his eyes the same spot Sungmin's eyes were pointed at and, to his great surprise, he noticed and recognized the same mysterious, handsome man he had bumped into only a little while before.

With a whirl of his long coat tail, he disappeared behind the corner of a corridor, looking hastily in a rush.

"No" Kyuhyun heard Sungmin's mumbles on his left side. He turned to see the man clasping his mouth shut and then biting his fingertips. Nervous and apparently scared, Sungmin kept on mumbling nonsense and that made Kyuhyun feel strangely uneasy.

"What's wrong?"

"No, no, no...it can't be!" Sungmin went on and immediately ran after the man, following exactly the same road he had taken, until he stopped, without prior notice, precisely in front of the door of a small lab.

The door wasn't entirely closed and he approached it while trying to eavesdrop.

Confused, Kyuhyun frowned, however, although not understanding why Sungmin was behaving this strange, his body moved first and replayed the man's identical moves until he was both hearing and seeing what was happening in the lab.

The mysterious man cautiously walked towards another person, whom, having his back turned and fiddling with ampoules an

You do realize that Wook left you the first time because you were going behind his back, scheming like this isn't much better >_> Just realize that you pretty much pressured Wook into a relationship the second time and move on. Jeez.

Chapter 21: So sweet, they defended each other. Hmm, Hangeng had an interest in Heechul? Did Heechul know? I would think that Hangeng acted unprofessionally in a Business meeting just to get a life partner! Maybe that was how they do Business in HK? Always have an exchange of something else?
Anyway, glad that Kyuhyun told Ryeowook not to give up on them, that they will fight together to be together. I just hope Ryeowook would break off with Jongwoon soon...
