Working Title

“Daddy.” Hyein walks up to Jongin after waking up from her nap, her father smiling and welcoming her into his arms from where he’s seated by the window.

The elder places a kiss on the crown of his daughter’s head as the small girl buries her face on Jongin’s chest, clutching on the sweater he is wearing.

“Did you sleep well?” The CEO breathes out onto the little girl’s scalp for which he got a nod as a reply. When he gets a good look on his daughter’s face, the elder sees that her eyes are open and she’s looking at the quiet and grey city outside the window.

Hyein suddenly pulls away to Jongin’s surprise, scanning the room as if she’s trying to find something then she’s looking at her father again, “Where is Uncle Soo?”

The elder internally smiles but he places a pout on his face to show a little jealousy which he doesn’t really feel because in reality he is happy that his daughter really likes his boyfriend.

“Why are you looking for somebody else when Daddy is right here?”

Usually, Hyein would instantly wrap her arms around Jongin and tell him that she’s just asking about that person because she’s curious. However, right now she doesn’t do that, she just frowns and looks at the door longingly.

“He promised he wouldn’t leave until I wake up.”

Jongin instantly envelopes Hyein in an embrace even if the little girl’s eyes are still on the door. She doesn’t cry but her face is etched with sadness at being betrayed by one of the few people she trusts the most. The CEO feels bad about not telling her the truth but when he’s about to let her know what happened, the door suddenly opens and his daughter jumps off his lap to welcome Kyungsoo.

“You promised you’d wait for me to wake up.” The scriptwriter hasn’t even been able to close the door but the little girl is already wrapping her arms around the elder’s legs.

“I’m sorry,” Kyungsoo tries his hardest to remove the small girl’s arms around him before squatting down to cup her cheeks, “I didn’t think you’d wake up quickly.” When Hyein doesn’t meet his gaze, he explains, “I just went to buy the snacks you like.”

Kyungsoo raises the transparent plastic bag he has, the tanghulu inside it visible for the little girl to see. Jongin’s daughter blinks before her hands are reaching for the plastic and murmuring a thank you for the scriptwriter.

“She was so sad when she didn’t find you inside the room.” Jongin says when Kyungsoo and Hyein reach where he is, sitting opposite him on the other side of the table. The scriptwriter smiles when he looks at the little girl who is sitting on his lap, silently munching on the sweet treat.

“Uncle Soo?” Hyein calls out to the man behind her and Kyungsoo hums to acknowledge her. “Are you going back to Seoul with us?”

“Uh, well,” the younger of the two adults looks up to where his boyfriend seems uninterested in their conversation as he looks through the documents on the table, “I didn’t really plan on going back soon since I still have a job here.”

“Do you have anything you’re working on at the moment?” Hyein twists her torso so she can look at Kyungsoo, gripping on the candied treat so it won’t fall while she talks to the elder.

“Hmm,” the scriptwriter hums as he thinks of his recent visits to the office with no one giving him anything to work on, “I don’t have anything right now but they might give me a job soon since we’ve recently acquired rights to turn this comic into a web series.”

“But none as of the moment, right?” Kyungsoo nods at Hyein’s question. “Then you can come with us.”

“But I haven’t asked for a leave yet.” The scriptwriter says, not to hurt the little girl’s feelings but he just wants her to know of how things work in the adult world; that it isn’t that easy. “Besides, I’ve already used it all up last time I went to Seoul.” Kyungsoo frowns when he tells her all of this, hugging her close to him to show his remorse at the fact that he can’t spend more time with her.

“Daddy!” Hyein then turns to Jongin who lifts his head up from a paper he currently has in his hand, glancing at Kyungsoo for a short moment before returning his gaze to his daughter.

“Can Uncle Soo have more breaks so he can come with us? He’s not doing anything right now anyway.” The little girl leans over the table with a pleading look on her face. “Please daddy?”

“Baby,” Jongin reaches out one hand to cup his daughter’s cheek, “I want to spend a lot of time with Uncle Soo as well but I know he just doesn’t want to come out as if he’s using my authority as the boss because we are together.” Kyungsoo blushes a little at how open the elder is about their relationship in front of his daughter, not afraid of how the little girl will view them knowing that the two are important to each other. “We can’t force him to go with us too.”

After hearing this, Hyein turns to the scriptwriter again, “Don’t you want to go with us Uncle Soo?”

“It’s nothing like that Hyein.” Kyungsoo is quick to placate the little girl, not wanting her to think that he doesn’t want to be with the father and daughter. “What your dad said is right. I don’t want people to think that I’m doing everything I want just because I’m close with the CEO.”

“But if you’re not doing anything right now wouldn’t it be alright?” Hyein tilts her head to the side and Kyungsoo internally squeals at how adorable she is. “Please Uncle Soo, even if it’s just for a week? Please?”

Hoping to get some help from his boyfriend, the scriptwriter glances to where Jongin is. He makes a face, glancing down to the little girl when he catches the elder’s attention but to his dismay the CEO just shrugs, showing he is not up for giving the scriptwriter a hand in getting out of his daughter’s pleading.

Kyungsoo finally gives up when Jongin turns his gaze away, pretending to focus once more on the documents in front of him. He swallows when he meets eyes with Hyein’s.

“I’ll see if I can ask for a vacation.”

“Yehey!” The little girl squeals, locking her arms around the wide-eyed male’s neck to pull him down for a hug. Kyungsoo kicks Jongin on the shin underneath the table when he sees the elder smiling at him struggling.

***

Kyungsoo didn’t have problems asking for a week of unpaid leave when he came to the office the next day. Instead he had troubles telling his seniors that he doesn’t need a paid leave because he knows he will need those in the future, in more important situations. He’s almost one hundred percent sure that Jongin had something to do with it too so he’s definitely going to have a talk with his boyfriend about it. The scriptwriter just hopes that the elder really did understand his reason; that he doesn’t want other employees to see him in a bad light just because he is in a relationship with Jongin. But he has to deal with that later. Right now, he has to take care of an overly excited Hyein and – should he say an over enthusiastic –Jongin as well.

Once they are in the plane, Hyein turns to Kyungsoo who is sitting beside her on the aisle seat while she has taken the window seat, leaving Jongin to sit alone in the pair of seats in the middle of the business class, “Uncle Soo, when we get home can you come with me to the pet shop?”

To the little girl, referring to their house as home and including Kyungsoo in it means nothing and she probably doesn’t think too much of the words she’s saying but to the elder, it makes his stomach flip in happiness hearing his boyfriend’s daughter consider him important enough to be in her home.

“Sure, why not?” Kyungsoo smiles at her, helping her secure the seatbelt around her waist. “I didn’t know you wanted to have a pet?”

“Daddy told me last night that he used to have a toy poodle who he grew up with so I want a pet too.”

“You want to have the same things your dad had when he was a kid?”

“Hmm, not really.” Hyein looks to where her father is busy reading the latest issue of the TIME Magazine, clearly not listening to the conversation that they’re having. When Kyungsoo urges her to continue, she decreases the volume of her voice and pulls the elder closer to her. He leans over the armrest separating them so that she wouldn’t have a hard time, showing the little girl that he’s listening.

“Sometimes daddy leaves me at home and I have nothing to do when my tutors are gone and it gets lonely when I have no one to play with.”

Kyungsoo feels pinpricks on his heart when he hears this, sensing through the little girl’s words just how lonely she is, being unable to go out as much as she wants and go to school like the other kids so she can have friends who she can interact and play with. Surprising Hyein, the scriptwriter gathers her in his arms, understanding now why she wants Kyungsoo to come back to Seoul with them because she knows that her father will be busy once again when they return.

When he releases the little girl, an idea pops into Kyungsoo’s head, “How about adopting a pet instead?”

“Adopting?” Hyein looks at the elder with curious eyes, pursing her lips that she got from Jongin at the new word.

“Yeah.” Kyungsoo nods and continues to explain it. “There are a lot of animals who get abandoned on the streets, mostly cats and dogs. The city takes them off the streets because it is unsafe for them to be there and brings them into the pound where they will be taken care of before they are brought out for adoption. Also, compared to paying a lot for a puppy or a kitten, you only have to pay a fee for the adoption papers. And although most of the pets in the pounds are already a few months maybe even years old, the good thing is they are trained already.”

The elder looks at the little girl after, waiting for Hyein to ask something. He gets startled and a bit lost when she asks something that might be a sensitive topic for both her and Jongin.

“Why are they abandoned?” There is innocence in Hyein’s question, already forgetting how Jongin found her since she was still young when she first met her father.

Kyungsoo clears his throat and gives a safe answer, “There are many reasons but what’s important is that there are people who are still willing to give them a home, a family.” He stresses the word family and smiles, showing that he is referring to Hyein. “What do you say?”

“Then can we go see some of them when we get home?” The little girl asks after nodding, agreeing with what Kyungsoo said.

“Okay but I will look for pounds tonight first so maybe we can go tomorrow?”

“Okay.” The way Hyein smiles up at him erases the little worry Kyungsoo had earlier about opening up the idea of someone or something being abandoned. To his relief, the little girl is back to her enthusiastic self when the airplane taxies away from the gate and onto the runway.

***

“There are so many people,” Kyungsoo comments when they come out from the baggage claim, seeing a huge amount of girls and some press on the neighboring exit where they came out from.

“Seems like there’s an idol group.” Jongin replies after he takes a quick look where the crowd has gathered, ushering his daughter and his boyfriend towards where Jaehyun and two bodyguards are waiting for them.

“Welcome back, Sir,” Jaehyun bows and smiles to the CEO before looking at the little girl and the scriptwriter beside the tanned male, “Hyein and Mr. Do.”

Kyungsoo returns the gesture but he reminds the younger, “You don’t have to be so formal with me, Jaehyun. I already told you, you can just call me hyung.”

The younger doesn’t reply, he just smiles politely as he takes their luggage, asking them to follow him to where their car is waiting.

“Isn’t that Kim Jongin?” One of the media personnel supposedly waiting for the idol group says, her voice neither too loud nor too quiet, just enough to catch the attention of the other reporters present beside her.

“Oh, you’re right.” Another member of the press exclaims and points his camera to where the trio are leaving, following Jaehyun and the bodyguards to the nearest exit.

Before their entourage can even disappear to the exit, a slew of reporters have started gaining distance towards them, shouting for the CEO to acknowledge them, “Mr. Kim! Mr. Kim!”

“Let’s hurry.” Jongin tells Kyungsoo, one of the bodyguards scooping Hyein up and carrying her the rest of the way while the other bodyguard tries to subdue the press who don’t stop taking photos of the CEO and his party. They also shout questions directed to Jongin about who he is with and who the child is but he keeps quiet and just walks speedily, almost running. The security of the airport have also helped, thankfully, seeing how they are all struggling to leave the vicinity because of the reporters hacking the CEO with questions and pressing against them. Kyungsoo has even taken Hyein from the bodyguard so that he can help the others in pushing the press away from them.

Jongin doesn’t forget to say his gratitude for the security before getting into the car after Hyein and Kyungsoo. The airport security have managed to push the press back and away from them but they have no power over the photos being taken so the CEO is already expecting those to be out by tonight if not in a few minutes. But that’s the least of his worries at the moment. Turning towards where Hyein and Kyungsoo are snuggling with each other beside him, the two most important people in his life his top priority, he asks:

“Are you two okay?” The elder reaches out to caress Hyein’s back who has buried her face in the crook of Kyungsoo’s neck.

“I’m fine,” the scriptwriter answers, “just a little surprised.” He looks down to where his boyfriend’s daughter is, tightening his embrace around the small body. “I think Hyein got scared because people started crowding around us.”

“We’re on our way home now, baby.” Jongin scoots closer and leans down to kiss his daughter’s hair. “There’s nobody else here. It’s just us now.” The CEO tries to coax the little girl out of his boyfriend’s hold but she doesn’t budge. She doesn’t seem to be crying but she is trembling a little.

“It’s okay,” Kyungsoo reassures the elder when he sees a hint of frustration in Jongin’s eyes, “just allow her time to calm down.” The taller male doesn’t cajole his daughter anymore and just her hair, telling her they’ll have ice cream and everything she wants to eat when they get home. When the small girl has finally stopped trembling, Kyungsoo shifts to allow his boyfriend to hold his little girl, showing Hyein that he will always ensure his daughter’s safety.

***

As Jongin expected, photos of him with Kyungsoo and Hyein start circling around different new sites that night. Some people said that Kyungsoo was just a friend but there were more people who suspected that he was the young CEO’s lover anf that they’ve adopted the child they were with. Some media sites even went as far as speculating that the two might have gone abroad to get married secretly.

Crazy, Jongin thinks, we haven’t even gone that far and they’re already talking about me being married to Kyungsoo. They’re getting ahead of themselves. Although, the CEO pauses hovering the cursor on the worried ‘married’, of course I would like to marry him one day.

“Jongin?” Kyungsoo’s gentle voice startles him so much that he slams the laptop shut with enough force to make the younger jump. The CEO quickly apologizes and checks if he damaged the gadget before beckoning the other closer, asking what his boyfriend wanted.

“I was talking with Hyein a while ago and she wanted to get a pet,” the scriptwriter starts, “I recommended that she could just adopt pets at the pound so I checked out for some nearby and I’d like to bring her to those places tomorrow.”

“That sounds a nice idea,” Jongin agrees but there’s a deep frown that settles on his face next, “You would need me for that though since she can’t adopt herself.”

“I can just put my name on it?” The younger suggests, seeing as it shouldn’t be a problem if the pound allows him to do so.

“But you don’t have an address here?”

“Hmmm,” Kyungsoo seems to think of it and then his brain supplies an answer, “I can just use yours? Technically, the pet will be living here anyway.”

Jongin pushes aside the implication that doing that will make it look like Kyungsoo lives in his house. It’s still too early in their relationship for him to assume that the shorter male thinks the same.

“Right, of course. If you can, then do so. I’m sorry I can’t go with you.”

“It’s alright. You have work to do.” The scriptwriter says, tone understanding as they finish that part of their conversation. “But Jongin,” the elder hums to show the other that he is listening, “I don’t want to sound like I’m overstepping my boundaries but it would be nice if you can spend more time with Hyein. Have your weekends free for her maybe?” The CEO looks at his boyfriend curiously, seeing a face etched with worry with a pinch of guilt, “I know she doesn’t want me to tell you this but if I don’t, nothing will change.”

“What is it, Soo?” Jongin, noting the concern on the smaller male’s face, tugs Kyungsoo to sit on his lap, placing his chin on his boyfriend’s shoulder while he caresses the younger’s arm.

“Hyein told me the reason why she wants to have a pet is because she gets lonely when you’re not home.” Kyungsoo cannot hide the concern in his voice and Jongin is glad that the other is able to tell him these things honestly when his own daughter can’t. For a while he wonders if he had not been approachable enough for his little girl to tell him these things herself.

“I understand. Thank you for telling me, Soo.” The elder squeezes his boyfriend’s arm to show his appreciation. “I’ve been so caught up with work that I’m forgetting I have a child waiting for me at home.”

“Don’t be too hard on yourself. You’re doing all of it for her.”

“I’m glad you’re here.” Jongin places a peck on Kyungsoo’s cheek, smiling a little when he notices his boyfriend’s cheek turn a cute shade of pink. “Hyein’s always been a bright kid but I can say she’s smiling more often now and she’s not as afraid of other people anymore. Thanks to you.”

“It’s not me.” The scriptwriter quickly shoots down the praise. “I think she’s also just eager to meet new people.” His words make Jongin wonder again and eventually he blurts out one question that he has been asking himself for quite some time now:

“Do you think I made a bad decision to keep her from the public and have her all cooped up in here instead of socializing with other children?”

Kyungsoo furrows his eyebrows in concern, cupping the taller male’s cheeks before answering the query, “You had your reasons.”

“Selfish reasons.”

“They’re not.” The smaller one shakes his head as if to give better emphasis to his words. “I know you’re just trying to keep her safe as well. You didn’t intend to make her feel lonely. Besides,” the smile that Kyungsoo shows Jongin gives the elder hope, “it’s not yet too late.”

“You’re right.”

***

Jaehyun quickly shifts and turns back around when he sees who is standing in front of the door to his boss’ house. With thoughts of returning to his own home forgotten, the secretary scrambles on his feet to reach Jongin’s study where the CEO has decided to work for the day, wanting to get there as fast as he can to warn the elder.

Two days after their return from Beijing, the media is still going on about his alleged relationship with Kyungsoo, making it hard for him to even get to his office. Reporters have been camping out of the KJI Building ever since his return and things haven’t been going smooth since. His face is always on the news, even Kyungsoo’s and Hyein’s and he feels a bit sad and guilty that they too have to go through such things because of him. There are some media outlets who have even gone as far as flying out to China to gather evidence of their relationship. A few sites were lucky enough to get a hold of CCTV footage of Jongin, Kyungsoo and Hyein in the hotel they were last staying at, using it as a leverage to make it look like they really are a couple. The CEO didn’t bother answering any of the queries the media has sent him or his office, his silence only making the people create more rumors about him.

“Sir.” Jaehyun bursts through the door of the study, startling the three people inside the room. Jongin is on his desk, going through reports that Jaehyun has asked for him to read through for his next meeting while Kyungsoo and Hyein are sitting on the sofa on the other side of the room. The two are playing with a year old pup with a vague breed that the little girl chose to adopt the day before. When the secretary is sure that he has the CEO’s attention, he breathes out, “We have a problem.”

“Reporters?”

“No, sir. Worse.” Jongin knits his eyebrows at his secretary’s answer, wondering what could be more of a bad news than the media at the moment. Once the younger informs him, however, he understands. “Your parents. They’re here.”

Kyungsoo and Jongin share a knowing look. However, before the scriptwriter can exit the room with Hyein, Jaehyun is already being pushed to the side by a tall, tanned man who looks very much like Jongin except he has a bigger build and his face looks sour, as if he has acquired all the pain in the world. Beside the man stands a woman in expensive clothing, her face stitched to perfection except it looks far from it. Comparing her face to old photos that the scriptwriter has seen before, Jongin’s mother looks nothing like the woman from five years before.

“What are you doing here?” Jongin stands up to help his secretary to get his balance back. He asks him to go to Kyungsoo and Hyein, the two already standing to greet their visitors.

“Hyein, bow and greet your grandparents.” Kyungsoo instructs the little girl with his gentle voice, hoping to soothe her after seeing fear in her eyes. Hyein follows the scriptwriter but is greeted back by a raised eyebrow from Mrs. Kim.

“I don’t have a granddaughter.”

Kyungsoo bites the foul words threatening to spill from his mouth and stands before Hyein, not wanting for the innocent little girl to bear any unnecessary insult towards her.

“Well, you do whether you like it or not.” Jongin is the one who speaks up this time. “Dear God, what did you do to your face?”

Looking offended, the elderly woman places a hand on her cheek and starts patting down her face, making a mental note to visit his plastic surgeon the next day.

“That’s not what we’re here for.” The deep voice coming from Jongin’s father makes everyone freeze, all attention given to the elderly man, hair greying at the roots.

“You have to answer the media and tell them that you’re not going out with this man.” Mr. Kim points to Kyungsoo who stands his ground with a hand clasped around Hyein’s. “It will ruin your career and your prospects of marriage.”

“Tell them it’s just a publicity stunt for that godforsaken movie you’re producing.” Expect Jongin’s mother to say the wrong things in hopes they would make the point come across better.

“It would be much better if you just break off whatever it is you have with this man.” The elderly woman points to Kyungsoo once more with her manicured fingers. “I’m sure it is nothing serious anyway. You were never serious with anyone.” Mrs. Kim looks to where Kyungsoo is standing, the scriptwriter seething at the words coming out of the older woman’s mouth, wondering how a man like Jongin came out of such a person. “If I were you, I’d pack my bags and go back to where I came from before you get hurt. You don’t belong in this world. You never will.”

Kyungsoo can feel Hyein’s hand gripping tightly on his, the dog which they have yet to name starts barking, as if he knows that the two intruders are bad people as he points his face towards them and barks loudly.

“Don’t tell me you were thinking that my son was being serious with you. Please, wake up.” Mrs. Kim scoffs then looks at her son, “You too. Stop playing games, you’re not a child anymore.”

“Enough!” Jongin rounds his desk and stands in front of his parents, eyes dark after having to bear with all the things they’ve been saying ever since they trespassed into his abode.

There is tense silence for a moment where the parents and son only look at each other, Mrs. Kim even raising her eyebrow as if to challenge her son. Jongin chuckles in response, dark and unforgiving as he balls his fists to his sides.

“You’re acting like parents now after throwing me away and pretending like you never had me?” The young CEO laughs once more, his expression growing darker. “I’m not your son anymore so you can stop pretending like you care about me when we all know that you’re just worried about your name being ruined but let me remind you again,” Jongin comes closer to his parents, interchanging between looking at his father and his mother while he says with emphasis, “I am not your son anymore. I haven’t been your son since you left me for dead in a foreign country with nothing but the clothes on my back.”

Kyungsoo notes that Mr. Kim swallows and his wife turns to look away but he doesn’t see any hint of remorse in their faces even as Jongin continues.

“You made me think I am not worth any amount of love in this world and now that I have that,” the producer looks at Kyungsoo and Hyein before turning to face his parents again, “you try to take that away from me? If you really want to act like real parents you will not take my happiness away from me.”

“You’re blinded.” Mrs. Kim speaks up, croaking out the words with false courage. “What did this man do to you?”

“He loved me.” Jongin answered, his response obviously earning shock from his parents. “That’s what he did.”

“You’re mistaking it.” Mrs. Kim looks towards her husband as if she’s asking for him to back her up but she gets no reply. “That’s not love.”

“Oh shut up!” The younger Kim steps away from them and moves closer to where Kyungsoo and Hyein are. “How would you know what love is when you’re not capable of it?”

When his parents have nothing to retort they try to revert to their earlier conversation of Jongin nullifying the press’ assumptions of him and Kyungsoo being in a relationship.

“Were you not listening?” The young CEO sounds irritated, “I will never do that. I will never deny that I am in love with him and neither will I deny my child.” And before his parents can even say more things he doesn’t really want to hear, Jongin dismisses them.

“This will be the first and last time you’ll ever get to step into my place. Don’t even think of going anywhere near my establishments.”

“Jongin.” Kyungsoo moves forward and places a hand on his boyfriend’s shoulder, not wanting the elder to have an even more battered relationship with his parents than he already has. “Be careful with your words, they’re still your parents.”

“No Kyungsoo, people like them do not deserve any kindness, especially yours.” Jongin takes the hand the scriptwriter has placed on his shoulder and intertwines their fingers.

“Security,” the tanned male shouts, prompting the men standing just outside the room to quickly come in to answer to their boss, “take them away. Drag them if you must.”

*****

“You’re thinking of something.” Jongin has beeen observing Kyungsoo for a while now, ever since they sat down for a glass of wine while Hyein is taking her night bath. “You can tell me anything, you know.”

“I was just thinking of what happened a while ago.” The younger answers honestly as his eyes follow how the dark-coloured drink in his glass swishes against the transparent material containing it. The CEO just looks at Kyungsoo, conveying through the small nod he gives that he wants the other to continue. “You promise you’ll listen and won’t get mad?”

“It depends.” The scriptwriter’s face falls at the elder’s reply so Jongin changes his answer. “When did I ever get mad at you?” When the younger still doesn’t look satisfied with his response, he sighs and changes again, “Of course, I’ll listen to you.”

There is silence after Kyungsoo nods, taking a sip of his wine before looking his boyfriend straight in the eyes.

“I think you should talk to your parents.” When Jongin makes a face, the younger reminds him that he promised to listen. “I know they’ve pained you in the past but I think you should be the bigger person here and show them how much you’ve grown.” Kyungsoo reaches his free hand towards the elder’s and squeezes it in reassurance, “I’m not asking you to forgive them right away. I know it’s not that easy but at least let them know how you feel without letting your anger seep through your words.”

“You’re too kind, Kyungsoo, too kind.” The young CEO shakes his head, unable to understand how his boyfriend can be so forgiving when his mother chewed out some nasty words not a few hours ago. But he knows where Kyungsoo is coming from and what he’s trying to do, thankful that the other isn’t asking for the change to come so quickly. “I’ll try but maybe not now. It’s still too early.”

The scriptwriter smiles appreciatively, squeezing the elder’s hand once again, “It’s good enough for me to know that you’re considering it.”

For a while they just look at each other then they move their gazes to watch the lights of Seoul as the night becomes deeper. The silence is broken by a small voice.

“Daddy?” Jongin feels his shirt being tugged lightly and finds his daughter standing beside the stool he is sitting on.

“Hey, baby, finished with your bath?” The little girl nods and keeps tugging on her father’s shirt. “Is something wrong?”

“Can I sleep beside you and Uncle Soo tonight?”

Jongin exchanges a look with Kyungsoo, silently asking if it’s okay to share a bed for the night. The younger jumps down from his stool and takes Hyein into his arms.

“Let’s get you a book from your room first so that daddy can read it for you later.” The child wraps her arms around Kyungsoo’s neck after agreeing.

It takes them quite a while to put Hyein to sleep, the child having been restless ever since the happenings that afternoon that obviously had the child shaken from all the shouting and at the heavy atmosphere.

“Kyungsoo,” the elder calls to the person on his daughter’s right side. When the scriptwriter has his eyes on the taller male, Jongin continues, “You and Hyein are all I need.” The younger opens his hand when he sees the other reaching out for it. The quiet that settles between them allows for the elder to observe his boyfriend and prepare himself for what he might receive for the next words he’s going to say.

“Kyungsoo,” the smaller male hums and meets his eyes again, taking his eyes off of Hyein’s brown locks to meet Jongin’s chocolate eyes, “I know it’s still a little too early to ask but,” the wide-eyed male looks at the elder curiously and there’s hope in those orbs that urges Jongin to complete what he wants to say, “will you be willing to spend the rest of your life with me?”

Jongin does’t get a verbal reply but with the way Kyungsoo’s eyes sparkle with subdued elation and how he grips the elder’s hand tightly, the response is already quite obvious.
