After weeks of frustrating wait, some of the results came back from the lab, and the only item that seemed to carry some value for the investigation at that moment was the wooden chest. It had kept a group of ten letters, all written in English, which meant a longer wait until the team could translate them fully; however, the time needed for the translation was shorter than the time it would take to discover the model of the gun that had fired the bullet which casing he had recovered, or the time for the blood test to be conclusive. Meanwhile, he only had a name: Sun, Taeyang by its translation in Korean, was the first word that had been written in the body of each letter; some of them had the initials YB along with what seemed to be affectionate words. Right now, Seungri was about to try his luck with Jiyong, hopefully he could give him some light with all this.

"Hey" he said in a courteous manner to the person in the other side of the bars.

"Are you going to be nicer to me this time"" His tone was harsh, but the side look he gave was somehow excited.

"I was just doing my job... We had reasonable doubt to make you a suspect"

"Had?"

Seungri sighed at the question, looking away from Jiyong's back to stare now at the sky through the small window right under the ceiling "I found a bullet casing inside the house."

The sound of Seungri's voice was so low that Jiyong doubted to have listened a word in the first place. So he turned around and walked towards him, making sure that his movements were still hostile and that his voice was still harsh when demanding the younger to repeat his words, and so did the inspector.

"Do you own a gun, Jiyong?" Listening to Seungri again took away the colour in his face, now shaking his head was enough to make him dizzy.

"Where exactly did you find it?" All his effort wasn't enough to mask the fear in his voice nor the dryness in his throat.

"Doesn't matter" The inspector put his hands over the elder's cold and shaking ones "what did really happen? You have to tell me, otherwise I can't help you."

"I don't know!" Jiyong took his hands away to walk to his cot and fall on it "I just... Can't understand it myself."

"Why did you kill her? Is that what seems incomprehensible to you?"

"Stop it already! She is not dead!"

Jiyong was now standing in front of Seungri, looking at him his mouth slightly open, resembling the astounded expression his interlocutor had. Neither of them expected that to be said, Jiyong had regretted it the moment the words left his mouth. Seungri seemed beyond confused and unable to speak for a few seconds. When he regained the ability to utter sound, it was obvious how careful was he at choosing his words.

"There was a huge pool of blood in the main bedroom that certainty meant a deathly wound, Jiyong; and you two lived alone."

With those words he understood the severity of his slip. He could no longer keep the inspector in the dark nor could he risk to lose his trust, as small as it could be. It was now time to tell him the truth... or, at least, part of it.

"She was kidnapped, I can't tell you more than that for now. I just want her to be safe. Trust me this one time, it's all I'm asking you."

Seungri sighed, averting his eyes from the despair that was evident in Jiyong's to look again at the window, tired with all the loose ends he was getting. "Give me time, I can't say I believe you, but I can't say I don't either" He stopped for a moment and Jiyong prepared himself to throw another plea, but the younger cut his attempt by speaking again "I have another question for you. Is the name Taeyang familiar to you?" Looking again in Jiyong's direction he could see how a frustrated pout appeared on his lips, forcing him to bite back a smile.

"It does. I think a guy called Taeyang held a party about two months ago. It was good, nothing special and not as big as the one we met in. Jihye and I always go to that kind of parties, but that's something you already knew." He offered him a smile, shyly avoiding his gaze. However, he regained composure fast enough to ask before the inspector could have the chance "Why is it important?"

"I'm afraid that's something I cannot share for now" answered Seungri, letting out a sigh for the eleventh time now.

"Why?" the elder uttered annoyed.

"You know the answer to that" the caring tone permeated in his words was enough to appease Jiyong's anger, allowing him to caress his right cheek through the bars; "be patient, I promise to tell you when I consider it's the right time."

"That's because you're not caged for something you didn't do."

"Just be patient" he repeated with a small smile before leaving, looking back at him right before passing through the door.

Jiyong just sighed heavily and left his weight to fall on the cot for the second time that day, hoping to catch some sleep in that awfully stiff bed. While he drifted off to sleep, his mind was filled with only one thought: If only I knew why they took her, maybe I would be able save her.

Seunghyun slammed the door open, startling the inspector who was reading what seemed to be a new piece of evidence that he didn't know of and this fact only made his anger grow and his hands turn into fists. Nonetheless, he managed to control his temper and approached the other with a relaxed but dominant aura.

"I heard you've been to the dungeon today, Seungri" his tone was a little more demanding that how he intended it to be and the other shuddered without lifting his gaze from the paper. It has been better this way.

"It's a murder investigation and I, as the one in charge of it, have the right to talk with the suspect as many times as I want." Seungri really was stubborn and arrogant in his eyes, but that only made him good in his job and he had to give him credit for that. This time, however, those qualities only make his job even more difficult.

"And I, as chief of this police department, must be informed exactly where are you taking this investigation" Seunghyun leaned forward then, supporting his weight with his hands on the desk, "you can't pass over me."

Seungri was taken aback by his boss' sudden aggression and the feeling that something just wasn't right echoed inside of him; he could not trust the man in front of him, not until he was able to take away that feeling of uneasiness.

"You don't need me to tell you my every move chief, he has been the best at his job" he, now standing with his hands hidden in his pants' pockets, pointed to the door with his head where Daesung has been standing the entire time. "Sometimes I wonder when does he have time to inform you."

"Do something like this again and you are off the case."

The chief pushed his chest before leaving with a yell that demanded Daesung to follow him without delay. Seungri could see for a second a heartbroken expression mixed with pure terror printed in the man, but decided to discard that immediately and take all this situation as a bad day in his boss' life. He might have been too stubborn and a little rude with him, but he couldn't help it, no when Jiyong's expression still lingered in his mind, begging him to believe in him, and a part of him did.

Seunghyun walked fast until they reached his office in the upper floor, Daesung closed the door behind him, his eyes never leaving the floor; by the form his boss was acting, he just knew something bad was going to happen. And he wasn't wrong because, as soon as the door was closed, he heard a loud bang next to his ear.

"I told you to keep an eye on him you stupid piece of " He wasn't shouting, but his voice wasn't calm either; his tone was dangerously low and Daesung couldn't stop his body from shivering. "He was not supposed to see you, just how many times have I told you that, Daesung-ah?"

"He is smart boss and felt that someone was following him, but he wasn't able to los..." Seunghyun didn't let him to say another word as he grabbed his neck and slammed him against the door, not letting go.

At that moment Daesung knew he had tested his patience to its limit and now he was going to be the recipient of all his anger and that couldn't be good. The elder began to close his hand with force around the other's neck, whispering hateful words into his ear and mixing them with sweet nicknames that only made him feel despicable. I was always like that, every mistake he made was rewarded with a bruise and words that only made his heart ache and his body tremble in fear; but in the end, Seunghyun would always kiss him in the right cheek before releasing grip, leaving him dumbfounded and confused every single time. This was not the exception.

"Look, find out what did Seungri talk with Jiyong and I might consider to forgive you" The brown haired man looked at him from the floor while trying to breath with his uncontrollable coughing, "are we clear?"

Daesung nodded fast and moved to a side when he noticed the other approaching the door.

"In fifteen minutes from now you'll have him all by yourself. Oh, and Daesunggie, don't be nice with him."

Those fifteen minutes were all he needed to be able to breathe again and to hide the bruise in his neck that now looked awfully red. He couldn't see Seunghyun again without the answers he demanded, he ought to find out more than just the topic of that conversation and he owned methods to get the information he needed from Jiyong, methods that where mostly illegal and pretty much learnt in all those years under Seunghyun's command.

About two minutes before the fifteen minutes ended, Daesung left the office with the dungeon as his destination and just one thought in mind: Be careful not to kill him.

I enjoyed reading your story and if this is your first English story, then you are doing great. I hope that you continue to update this story to completion. It is so good. I want to know how did Ji get in this situation. Is Jiyong's family part of a gang? Why did he choose to leave Seungri? Was it because they were two guys and he felt like it wouldn't be accepted in the gang/family? Who is Taeyang is this story? How did they infiltrate the police to this level? Wow I can't wait to see your next update. This story is so good and I am loving the detective story. We don't get many of these and this is so interesting.
