Chapter 12

“Pack your bags.”

SeulGi looks up from whatever she was doing, “What?”

“Tch.” Irene clicks her tongue, “Don’t make me repeat what I said.”

SeulGi cleans her ear to make sure she heard Irene right, “Pack my bags? Why? Am I finally free?”

Irene stares at her, expressionless, “No. Don’t get your hopes too high. You haven’t even made it halfway the amount yet.”

SeulGi loudly sighs to intentionally infuriate Irene.

“Don’t give me that.” Irene starts to throw SeulGi her clothes from the cabinet, “Pack your things already.”

“Uhmm, where am I going?” SeulGi walks to Irene as she catches her clothes.

Irene only continues to mutter things as she takes almost everything out of SeulGi’s dresser, “Eww. You should totally throw this away.”

SeulGi could only watch as Irene mocks and insults her wardrobe.

“This one, too.”

“Also this one.”

“Ugh! SeulGi! What are you a fifth grader?!”

“MAY I ASK WHERE I’M GOING?” SeulGi asks with wide-open eyes.

Irene at long last looks at SeulGi, “What do you mean ‘I’m’?” She passes one last piece of clothing to SeulGi, “We’re going.”

“And where are we going?” SeulGi takes one last step to Irene.

Irene stares at SeulGi first before finally saying,

“Daegu.”

---

“Mind telling me why are we going to your hometown?” SeulGi unpacks every single one of her things that Irene is packing in a suitcase, “And why should I go with you?”

Irene bites her lower lip in obvious frustration as SeulGi takes everything that Irene puts in the case, “Daddy called me and told me we’ll have this stupid family reunion in our place. Now, put your things back in the goddamn case!”

SeulGi stops Irene from packing by holding her wrist, “And why am I in the picture?”

“Well who else will go with me and tend to me?!” Irene says it like it’s the most mundane thing in the world.

“You’ll just enslave me there?!”

“It’s your job!”

“You’re unbelievable!”

“Deal with it!”

“Irene!”

“SeulGi!!”

SeulGi lets go of Irene’s hand as the former lets out another sigh, “Why are you even packing a lot?! Just how long will we stay there?!”

“About a week.” Irene shrugs.

“A week?!” SeulGi’s eyes are as wide as , “We’ll be gone for a whole week?! What about school?!”

“It’s only a week! Not like we’ll miss the whole school year!” Irene explains it fast, “Besides, there’s a holiday on Friday and then there’s just school activities on Wednesday to Thursday. We won’t miss much.”

“You’re crazy if you think I’m going.” SeulGi shakes her head in disbelief.

“Well you’re crazy if you don’t think you’re going.” Irene snaps back, “Not only will you tend to me there,” Irene looks at SeulGi again,

“My parents ask you to be there.”

---

“, I’m nervous of what your parents will tell me.” SeulGi quickly packs her things with Irene, “Did they find out about me being lax with your curfew? Did they find out about me answering back at you? Holy , Irene! Why would you even tell your parents I called you a ‘’?!” SeulGi asks frantically.

“Calm down, you stupid bear!” Irene slaps SeulGi’s arm to at least bring SeulGi back to sanity, “My parents just wanted to see you! To see how we’re doing! God, SeulGi! How dense can you get?” A chuckle escapes Irene’s lips as a sigh of relief escapes from SeulGi’s.

“O-Oh, why didn’t you tell it sooner?” SeulGi feels like a thorn just has been taken from her.

“I kind of wanted to see you panic.” Irene smirks.

SeulGi stares at a grinning Irene as she says, “You’re such an , Bae.”

---

“I’ll just tell my Dad that I’ll be going with you to Daegu.” SeulGi takes her phone from her pocket and starts to dial her father’s number.

“Hey, Dad! I’ll be accompanying Irene—” SeulGi stops which made Irene look at her direction, “—Ms. Bae to Daegu.”

SeulGi grits her teeth in disgust as Irene softly laughs.

“Yes, Dad. I’ll be fine.” SeulGi nods, like her father will be able to see it, “We’ll be fine, I guess. I hope.”

SeulGi laughs heartedly, “Okay, Dad. I will. And yes, I will try my best not to strangle Ms. Bae.” That gained her a smack from Irene.

SeulGi giggles as she rubs her hit arm, “Alright, Dad. See you soon. Love you, too.”

She hangs up.

“Aww, Baby bear misses Papa bear?” Irene coos.

“Get off my family, Irene.” Seulgi playfully pushes Irene.

“Don’t you mean ‘Ms. Bae’?” Irene jeers.

“Shut up, Irene.” SeulGi continues to lightly push and pull Irene.

“Stop it.” Irene chuckles as she slaps SeulGi’s hands off her, “Let’s finish packing. I’ll tell the driver to get the car ready.”

---

“Are we there yet?” SeulGi tugs Irene, who has her sunglasses on, her arms crossed and her head facing the window.

Maybe SeulGi is really just thick, or she just really wanted to annoy Irene more, because she knows that Irene is sleeping and yet she still wakes the princess up.

She hears Irene groan, “What do you want, you peasant?! Can’t you see I’m sleeping?!”

“I know. That’s why I woke you up.” SeulGi doesn’t know the joy from pissing Irene off, but it must be a lot because she does it every time, “How long will it still take us to get there?”

Irene looks at her wristwatch, “It’s a four-hour drive, 2 more hours before we get there.” Irene goes back to her position, “Why don’t you go to sleep? You’re good at that, right?”

“Tch,” SeulGi scratches the back of her head, “Fine.”

---

SeulGi is known for sleeping a lot and sleeping too much. One will take a hard time waking her up from her deep slumber, and SeulGi knows too well. There are different things one can do to wake SeulGi up, so imagine her surprise when SeulGi wakes up to see Irene on her face.

When SeulGi was able to adjust to what was happening, she starts to feel her face gets red and her heart beats fast.

“Jesus! Get away from me!” SeulGi quickly shoves Irene back to the latter’s side of the car. SeulGi breathes fast to maintain oxygen that she knows she lost just by thinking of Irene’s face so close to hers, “What are you even doing?!”

Irene rubs her shoulder where the car seat hit, SeulGi was almost about to apologize when she sees Irene it, “Don’t assume anything erted, Kang. I was trying to wake you up for the past 5 minutes and you still sleep like a log. I instantly thought you were dead.”

“Waking me up?! That close?!”

“I was trying to breathe on your nose!” Irene casually says.

Which made SeulGi frown and burrow her eyebrows, then after a brief second of silence, SeulGi says, “What is wrong with you?!”

She was trying so hard not to laugh at Irene’s stupidity at times, but just like the expiration date of SeulGi’s favourite food, it’s inevitable.

SeulGi was already laughing out loud, “Seriously Irene! I thought you’re smart!”

“I tried a lot of things already!” Irene smacks SeulGi’s arm again, “I tried punching you, pinching you, breathing on your ear, opening your eyes, poking my foot on your mouth. Everything!”

“You could have just held my nose so I could hold my breath!” SeulGi keeps on laughing until, “Wait,” SeulGi’s eyebrows meet once again, “You put your foot on my mouth?!”

This is my go-to Seulrene fic especially when I miss them. I first read this the night before my birthday. I couldn’t stop reading and feeling all the emotions; I cried, laughed, loved every chapter. I lost track of the time, so immersed in it. I was in Grade 9 that time, a teenager in 2016. Now, I’m in my 20s re-reading the story. I can’t believe it’s been that long, this masterpiece will forever have a place in my heart. Thank you, adamandeve! <3
