Let's start with some band terms. anything with '*' means they are part of leadership. I'll add as we go along:
- *drum major (DM): the person who stands on the podium thing and conducts
- *assistant drum major (ADM): the person who co conducts with the drum major, or conducts one of the movements himself. only one.
- *field lieutenant: makes sure that all the lines are good and marching is good. they just check up on everything
- drumline/battery: all the drums
- pit: marimbas, vibraphone, xylaphone, cowbell, bass guitar, etc.
- plume: fluffly part of hat
- section leaders: leaders of the section
- drumcorps (drum-core): a hard core marching band that tours in the summer. you get in by auditions.
- colorguard: the girls/boys who do the flag and rifle stuff
- set: the position you get in when someone important says something along the lines of, "BAND, TEN HUT!".
- at the ready: the ready position. you can look these up on google images i think...
- historian: takes pictures and makes video of band at the end of the year
- librarian: copies and gets music for people who don't have it
- divisions: 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, they are all different sizes of bands, so only 3A bands go against 3A bands. does that make sense?
- *colorguard captain and co captain: in charge of colorgaurd
- your dot: no, not your period. it is the spot assigned to you in the drill. it can either be a place where you stop and play, or a guiding spot that you must pass through in order to keep form.
- dot sheet: thelittle sheets with your dots on them
