Still smiling, Minhyuk quietly asked, “Can we go talk in a more private place?”
“Uh, yeah, sure.”
He led her out of the grand ballroom and into the quieter interior of the hotel. To Krystal’s surprise, they kept walking.
“Where are we going?” inquired Krystal.
“You’ll see,” Minhyuk replied airily. “Oh, and the party looks great, by the way.”
“I know,” she replied in a jokingly arrogant tone but abruptly shifting into an accusatory one, “But what took you so long? You could have actually enjoyed the party.” She added a glare for impact.
“I had something I needed to do.”
There it was again. That evasiveness. No direct answers. And that moment, Krystal knew something was up. But against her impulse, she decided to trust him and wait for him to explain on his own terms.
“So…” she began awkwardly at the same time Minhyuk said, “Krystal-”
“Oh, sorry,” they said simultaneously before bursting into laughter.
“You go first,” Minhyuk offered, but she shook her head.
“It’s nothing important,” she said truthfully. “Seriously,” she added when she caught his doubtful expression. “What were you going to say?”
“Well, I was just going to ask how you’ve been, that’s all.”
“Like after we finished this year?” she clarified.
“Yeah.”
“I’ve been very stress free, especially without Professor Song’s classes.” The two exchanged grins at her last phrase. “How about you?”
“Eh, I’ve been better.”
Worried by his ambiguity, she asked, “What’s wrong? You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, but-” Feeling too embarrassed to finish the sentence, she suddenly stopped.
“But?” he gently prodded.
“I’m here to listen,” she finished quietly.
Minhyuk smiled gratefully. “Well, I’ll tell you because I can trust you.”
