Chapter 5

Complete Opposites

When they arrived at the bubble tea shop after school, it was crowded with people once again as it was close to dinner time. Many people had settled down in the café and there was literally no time for rest. When they finally had time to take a breather, it was already 10pm.

As if on cue, the bell at the entrance rang and this time, a group of guys entered.

Jihyun scanned the group and this time, there were more people. She mentally counted each one of them and concluded there were 12 people; the entire group was here.

They made a loud entrance, and a few of them scanned both of them from head to toe, while the other few were surprised. “What are you doing here?” Tao asked Jihyun who was wiping the tables.

“I work here.” She said nonchalantly and he let out a gasp. “How did I not see you here at all?”

“I just started working a couple of weeks back.” She shrugged and he nodded in understanding, with the rest of the boys eavesdropping on the conversation.

Youngmin asked Jihyun and Hyorin to take the order while he finished up the accounts, and they merely nodded as they walked gingerly towards them.

Luhan immediately stood up when he saw Jihyun, and put an arm protectively around her shoulder. “Guys, this is Jihyun, the new friend I made. I don’t think you had a formal introduction the other day so yeah, there you go.”

Hyorin cleared a little too loudly, and Luhan seemed to notice it as he quickly added on, “and here’s her friend…” “Hyorin.” She cut off and he nodded, “Hyorin.”

The two girls bowed and the boys nodded, letting out warm and comforting smiles. They didn’t seem that intimidating now with smiles on their faces.

They introduced themselves one by one, and the girls felt overwhelmed by the number of names they had to remember.

“It’ll take a while but I think we’ll get it, right Hyorin?” Jihyun nudged Hyorin who just let out a small smile. After taking their orders, they both headed back to the counter, with Luhan trailing behind.

“So, I didn’t know you worked here.” He casually said while Jihyun continued mixing the drinks. “Well, you didn’t ask, so I didn’t mention.” She replied and he nodded. “Fair enough.”

“Do you come here often?” She asked and he shrugged, “I only come here because Sehun wants us to accompany him sometimes, but now that I know you work here, I definitely will come here more often.” He sent a playful wink and Jihyun laughed, “That may have killed your fangirls but definitely not me, Luhan.” “Well, it was worth a try.”

They stayed for a while longer and Youngmin gestured the girls to join them as well. The 15 of them sat in a circle and joked around as they got to know each other better. It was surprisingly better than they expected, since all the boys had been friendly and welcoming.

Their cold and handsome demeanor in school were totally shaken off when they cracked stupid jokes and exposed embarrassing stories of each other. Jihyun had to admit, she had fun; even Hyorin was laughing along and getting along well with them.

They decided to call it a night as they had school the next day and they couldn’t help but wish time would pass slower.

“They are really nice.” Baekhyun said as the guys gathered at his and Chanyeol’s dorm. “Yeah, Luhan you really picked the right friend to befriend.” Xiumin agreed and Luhan smiled.

“I really want to get to know them better.” Chanyeol said excitedly and Chen laughed, “Them as in the both of them or just Hyorin?” Chanyeol blushed a deep red and nervously chuckled, “Both!” he said and the rest of the boys laughed teasingly.

--

“Care to join us for lunch today?” Kai asked as Jihyun and Hyorin entered the classroom. They were still pondering when Tao interrupted, “Come on, as you can tell from yesterday, we don’t bite.” Jihyun glanced at Hyorin and she gave a slight nod. “Alright, we’ll join today.” She said while Kai and Tao made a fist bump. “Yes!”

Sehun had heard the entire conversation, and surprisingly, he wasn’t as upset as he thought he would be, instead, he silently smiled to himself.

During lunch, he trailed at the back with Jihyun, lost in their own thoughts again while Kai and Tao cracked jokes with Hyorin, making her laugh wildly.

“Are you okay with me joining?” Jihyun suddenly snapped Sehun out of his thoughts and he turned to her, gazing into her pair of black orbs.

“Do whatever you want.” His words came out harsher than he wanted it to be as he walked away, leaving her behind. He wanted to say he was okay with it, and that he was actually glad they came along, but of course, his pride never let him do what he wanted.

Truthfully, Jihyun was tired of him acting this way; she had gotten along with every single one of the boys but not Sehun. She was certain he had his soft side as she got a chance to see it when he was with the boys. However, when he sees her, his attitude changed.

“Argh!” She stomped her feet, and quickened her steps when she saw the rest of them entering the canteen. When she entered along with Tao, Kai, Hyorin and Sehun, the entire canteen turned to look at them. The boys seemed immune to the stares they were receiving as Kai and Tao called out excitedly to the 9 boys sitting in the middle. “Look who we brought!” They said as they pulled Jihyun and Hyorin to the table while Sehun followed lazily at the back.

A few gasps were heard as the boys gave a huge smile and gestured them to sit down at their table.

“Hyorin, sit here!” Chanyeol said excitedly and pulled Hyorin to sit beside him while Jihyun settled beside Luhan and Kai. Murmurs filled the entire canteen and Jihyun felt uncomfortable as she felt stares on her.

“Don’t worry about them; they are just curious because no one has sat with the 12 of us before.” Luhan chuckled and Jihyun was surprised. “I should be honored then.”

“You should, we don’t just make friends with anyone.” Luhan winked again, making Jihyun laugh.

“Hi oppas, can we sit here too?” A squeaky voice suddenly asked while they were in the middle of the conversation. The boys, including Jihyun and Hyorin turned to look at her and her group.

Jihyun haven’t seen them before, but they were all decked out in jewelry and branded goods. Their uniform was altered to a whole new level of short and they all had makeup on their faces.

She turned her attention to the boys and she could tell their faces were a mix of disgust and annoyance.

“Jieun, you should have known by now that no one sits with us unless they are invited to.” Kris squinted his eyes at her “And you’re saying these two girls are invited?” She scoffed and scrutinized Hyorin and Jihyun.

“Whoever we invite to lunch has no concern with you, so will you please get out of here?” Baekhyun defended and Jieun was evidently pissed.

“What do they have that I don’t? They are so plain!” She said with disgust and Luhan shot a glare to her. “Look who’s talking. At least they don’t need make up to cover up their ugly personality.” Luhan spat and Jieun was taken aback, and she stomped away with her friends.

“Have you stared enough?” Chanyeol looked around the canteen at the students who were looking at them and they quickly turned away when they heard him.

After they left, Jihyun and Hyorin were definitely a little shocked. Who knew they would be hated on just for having lunch with the Kingkas?

“I hope they didn’t scare you guys.” Kyungsoo said while Jihyun and Hyorin kept silent. “Yeah, they think they are all that just because they are queenkas.” Lay said as he rolled his eyes.

“So they are queenkas, no wonder they were so upset when they got rejected.” Jihyun thought and Lay continued, “The head of the group is Jieun, and her friends are Gyuri and Dayoung. Try to stay away from them though; those girls are nothing but trouble.”

--

After school, Tao and Kai pulled Jihyun and Hyorin along again, with Sehun trailing at the back as usual.

“Since you joined us for lunch, make it a combo by joining us after school!” Tao said excitedly as he dragged them to the entrance.

Meeting up with the rest of the boys, they headed to a nearby restaurant to settle for lunch before going to the streets for some shopping.

It hadn’t been long since they shopped when suddenly, Sehun stopped in his tracks while talking, and put a hand out to prevent the rest from walking further. Everybody turned their attention to their front, and there were a group of boys standing in front of them, with one of them, which Jihyun assumed was the head of the group, smirking with his hands crossed across his chest.

“Well, look who we’ve got here. If it isn’t the most popular guys of SM College.” He taunted and Jihyun could see some of the boys shooting him glares, and Sehun who was standing beside her was clenching his fists tightly. She looked at him and she could tell that he was literally shooting lasers at him, if stares could kill, he would be dead by now.

“Get lost, Myungsoo.” Sehun growled and Jihyun could tell he was about to punch him, and her natural instinct was to pull him back. “Don’t, Sehun.”

The guy who smirked, who she assumed was Myungsoo, plainly cackled and moved forward towards them. “I see you have moved on, Oh Sehun.” Myungsoo said while Sehun remained quiet.

“What a pretty girl, maybe I can try taking her away too.” He snarled as he placed a hand on Jihyun’s cheek. Sehun immediately slapped his hands away, “Keep your hands off her.” He gave him a death glare and Jihyun was surprised when he defended her, she never thought he would care.

“Why? Afraid she’ll leave you like Minjung did?” He smirked and Jihyun was confused, “Who’s Minjung?”

Before anyone could react, Sehun charge towards Myungsoo and held him by the collar, the boys were shocked and some of them tried to pull him back while Sehun was still holding onto him. “Don’t you dare mention Minjung in front of me.” He spat and Myungsoo scoffed. “What? You can’t accept the fact she left you for me?”

As if it was the trigger, Sehun threw a punch towards Myungsoo, throwing him onto the floor. Myungsoo hastily stood up and flung another punch back to Sehun, causing him a bleeding lip. Both sides quickly went up to the two to hold them back from each other, and the girls were shocked from what’s happening.

“Let’s go.” Kris ordered and they all started leaving. Instinctively, Sehun pulled Jihyun away before they could do anything to her while she just let him because she was still in shock.

This was the first time she had seen this side of Sehun, and she was definitely more than surprised. She snuck a glance at him and his face was stoic and blank, unexpectedly.

“Sehun.” She whispered and he looked at her. “You can let go now.” She whimpered as she felt a slight pain on her wrist. It was only then he realized he was still holding onto her hand tightly even though they had walked a bit of distance.

He immediately let go of her, and was instantly guilty when he saw a red mark forming on the place where he had pulled her at. “S-sorry.” He muttered softly and Jihyun just shook her head.

“I think we lost them.” She said softly when she realized it was just the two of them standing in the middle of the streets. Sehun looked around, she was right, he didn’t know where he was going because he didn’t follow his hyungs and was walking wherever his legs took him.

“Anyway, I’ll be right back, just stay here.” She asked Sehun to sit down on the bench while she ran to a nearby store.

A few minutes later, she came back with medicated oil and cotton wool, and a band aid. She sat closer to him and he flinched, “Relax, I’m just going to clean your wound. It’s going to hurt a little, but it’ll be worse if you leave it unattended.” She said sternly and he obeyed.

She cleaned the wound meticulously and Sehun couldn’t help but stare at her concentrated expression. She looked so serious and careful as she dab the cotton wool with a pout on her face. Her forehead would crease when the cotton wool ran out of medicated oil and she had to pour it again, and he couldn’t help but smile at her reactions.

His lips involuntarily twitch up into a smile, and he could see Jihyun was surprised. “What?” She asked and he shook his head, “Nothing. Just thought of something funny.”

Seeing him smile made her smile too, and she let out a chuckle, to his surprise this time. They both ended up chuckling together, but when they locked eyes, the laughter died down and they cleared their throats to alleviate the awkwardness.

“Uhm, you may need a couple of days to heal, I’ll just put a band aid first.” She placed the band aid at the wound, and her hands unconsciously brushed his lips, which sent electrics through his body and caused him to have slight goose bumps.

Her phone rang, and she quickly answered when she saw the caller ID. “Where are you, Jihyun?!” Hyorin screamed when she answered the phone. “Cool down, Hyorin. I’m in the middle of the streets. We lost you guys because it was so crowded just now and we weren’t really looking at the way.” She explained. “We? As in you and Sehun? He’s missing too.” She asked and Jihyun replied, “Yes, I’m with Sehun now. We’ll meet you at the mall near the traffic junction.” She said before hanging up.

“Come on, let’s go.” She motioned to him as they walked towards the traffic junction.

“Are you guys okay?” Chen asked concernedly as he looked at Jihyun before turning to Sehun’s wound.

“I’ll be fine, the wound’s already treated, and it’ll heal soon.” He said nonchalantly and the boys nodded.

“Don’t be so reckless in future, Sehun. They are not worth it.” Suho advised as he placed a hand on his shoulder while Sehun stayed silent.

When they arrived back at the dorms, everyone was tired, and they all headed back to their rooms for an early rest.

“Stop brooding over it.” Luhan said as he entered the dorms with Sehun. “I can’t just stop thinking about it.” He shook his head sadly.

“You have to move on, Sehun.” Luhan sighed before heading to shower, leaving Sehun with his own thoughts.
