Rollercoaster Ride

Lay Down Your Swords

Hongbin didn't know honestly how he was able to sleep that night considering the events that took place on his arrival. Never had Hongbin ever actually wanted to go to class and actually do school. But then again, this wasn't just regular school.

Hongbin shuffled off to the side and stared at his nightstand; which had a little device projecting up a holographic image in big red letters that read the date and the time. It was still 4:05 AM. Hongbin sighed impatiently as he slammed his head back on the surprisingly soft pillow and clicked his tongue.

"Hyung? Stop that and go to sleep" A voice tore through the silence; a voice that Hongbin knew was Hyuk's, his roommate.

Hongbin, confused rolled onto his left side to see that Hyuk was still laying comfortably, his blonde hair still shone through the dim lit room and his pretty eyes closed shut. "Hyuk? You're awake?" Hongbin chuckled, "Sorry. Just excited I guess. It feels good to finally be here." Hongbin smiled as Hyuk seemingly chuckled along with him though something seemed a little off.

"I know what you mean." Hyuk said, sounding slightly slurred as he started to roll around and tugged at his sheets. Was he... talking in his sleep? Hongbin blinked as he stared at Hyuk who was now looking like he was doing some combat moves with an invisible sword while laying down, snoring sweetly like a baby.

"You're too cute." Hongbin suddenly blurted. He blushed and covered his mouth as Hyuk rolled around and looked like he was making eye contact with Hongbin, but he was still clearly asleep.

"So are you hyung." And with that, the snoring grew a little heavier and Hongbin blinked, chuckling to himself. So, he talks in his sleep, cute. Hyuk was literally the cute king. And he thought that Jaehwa- (He could feel Ken slapping him mentally and reminding him of his codename) Ken was the cute king. Maybe it was because Hyuk was younger.

Hongbin's thoughts soon tired his brain out enough for his mind to close out and fade to black; however the fade felt like a sheer second as before he knew it he felt his pillow pulled from underneath his head and slapping him against his chest.

His eyes crashed open as he quickly cocked his head to the side, looking at the holographic clock that now read 8:53.

"Wake up sleepyhead!" An all too familiar voice nagged as Hongbin looked back up. His blurred morning vision clarified and he quickly recognized the figure as none other than Ken. "Everyone's already up. It's just you me and that Hyuk kid so let's get some breakfast!" Ken shouted, all too loud. Suddenly, Hongbin felt laziness overtake him and he didn't want to get out of bed anymore.

----

He was fully dressed, now in his assigned school uniform. He thought he might as well gotten used to wearing it even though class doesn't officially start until tomorrow. Besides, it was very stylish.

Hongbin grabbed his trusty daggers, wrapping the belt hilt around his waist and making sure that the daggers were adjusted. And for added measure, he grabbed one of his cameras to take pictures of the campus and anybody of interest. Hongbin finally stared at the mirror and made sure he looked absolutely presentable until Hyuk came up from behind him and hugged him from behind, pulling out his holo-phone and snapped a picture of the two of them in a selca.

"You came out well hyung!" Hyuk exclaimed, sounding amazed yet unsurprised.

Hongbin chuckled as he shoved his elbow back at Hyuk who made an overdramatic pained squeal causing Hongbin to chuckle. "You look good in your uniform Hyuk." Hongbin complimented honestly. It really filled out Hyuk's wonderful bone structure and even added a sense of maturity, making him look older than he actually was. The only thing retaining his childish charm was his bright blonde hair that looked like he walked out of a cheesy after school special. It was adorable nonetheless.

"Thanks hyung! You look great too, no surprise there." Hongbin smirked, remembering the night before when Hyuk had previously commented on his appearance in his sleep.

"Hyuk, you can call me Hongbin, we're both the same grade level," Plus I like it when you say my name. Though, Hongbin wasn't sure that would be appropriate. Hyuk nodded at him and smiled nervously.

"Would you two stop flirting? I'm seriously really hungry right now!" Ken nagged, using that familiar old lady voice again. He grabbed onto both of their arms, clinging onto them and dragging them off and out of the suite area and into the main campus.

---

Inconveniently, the main cafeteria was literally located across the campus from the residence halls; probably to not only discourage bringing food back to the suite's but to force any student to get some amount of exercise before crashing in their room. Pretty smart to be honest. On their way to the dining hall, Hongbin started snapping pictures left and right, taking pictures of the surprising amount of natural plant life that surrounded the campus. It was an interesting sight to see a quad filled with trees and comfortable grassy fields with electronic walls and cyber architecture right next to it. The school was a marvelous design.

Occasionally he'd have Ken or Hyuk into a picture, ruining a shot; though Hongbin wouldn't consider it ruined as they always came out well.

When they finally arrived at cafeteria, Hongbin's mouth dropped in awe. It was huge and it was literally an all-you-can eat buffet. All they had to do was swipe their card for breakfast servings. Hongbin's eyes glazed over everything, from the restaurant like booths to stools eating on a bar-like setting and everything. It was just a marvel to look at. His eyes suddenly fell upon a familiar bed of blue hair that was stuffed under a beanie... scarfing down five hot dogs.

"Kim Wonsik!" Ken whined as the blue haired hedgehog cocked it's head around with a hotdog in his mouth. He smiled, causing the hot dog to almost fall out. Hyuk bursted into a fit of laughter and Hongbin found it contagious. "Who in their right mind would eat hot dogs for breakfast?" Ken sighed as he started laughing hysterically as well. Ravi turned around and went back to his... eating while Ken guided Hongbin and Hyuk to the eating line.

"Alrighty kids, here you pick up your trays and go down the buffet line. You can pick how much of something you want, it's absolutely all you can eat and you can hop back in line anytime you want but I suggest starting off small so you can at least try everything first." Ken guided as Hongbin nodded.

Hongbin got himself a simple plate of breakfast, it was very Americanized, the food here and wasn't like most eateries in Korea at all, in fact. There were literally no Korean dishes to be found. Strange but Hongbin didn't mind. He got himself a plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns (his favorite) and some toast. He also grabbed an energy bar as a later snack in case he needed the extra boost.

Once he got his food he was tugged along by Ken to go sit somewhere else. Though Hongbin could clearly see in the corner of his eye that Ravi was calling over to him to sit next to him, rather loudly in fact. Though Ken dismissed it completely and instead linked arms with Hongbin again as Hyuk followed suit, sitting off in a table on the opposite side of the dining hall. Hongbin turned to look at Ravi, mouthing the words sorry as Ravi merely smiled at him and gave him a wave. He felt kind of bad.

---

Breakfast went by faster than Hongbin expected since it was a mix between Ken explaining the several sections of the school like a true mentor to Hyuk and Hongbin. The school was divided off into sections. Hongbin already saw a couple of them, the Library, though the official nickname was the Web due to all of the knowledge to be found there. The Training Area which Hongbin already knew to be the Crucible; and here the dining hall.

Then there was the Parking Lot which not only housed student owned vehicles but also official vehicles for transportation to missions and other school related activities. The infirmary, self explanetory. Some of the students who are studying in healing, like Ken actually worked there as nurses from time to time to earn credits and other honors. Then of course the residential halls leading up to the Suite buildings, then finally the elevator, the northernmost part of the campus housed a large elevator which brought everyone to a higher level of the school in a ring of sorts, where every classroom is located. Classroom floors go up until the fifth floor where the faculty offices were located.

After the review lesson, the class schedules were sent to each student's email. Hongbin quickly checked his and Hyuk peaked over curiously, cheering victoriously as he boasted how they were literally in all the same classes, as expected.

Hongbin caught up with Ken and learned a couple of things about him. How he's invested in his archery and is now pretty good at it, preferring combat from a distance, which differed from both Hongbin and Hyuk's fighting style greatly. On the subject of fighting styles, Ken thought it'd be interesting if they went to go check out the Crucible's other functions aside from just sparring. Now Hongbin was intrigued.

When the three of them arrived at the crucible, they entered an arena, the very same one Ravi and Leo had fought in the day prior to be exact. Ken brought up the virtual console interface that could be brought up with a simple hand movement, pulling out his student ID Card for the virtual intelligence to scan and confirm, unlocking the rest of the holographic interface for Crucible programming options.

"Let's see, how about we explore a jungle huh?" Ken proposed, to which Hyuk punched his fists, excited as Hongbin smiled, noddingly. Ken smirked as he programmed the area accordingly and suddenly the bland looking beige and white arena slowly digitally morphed into a jungle like biome. The footing beneath them shifted from the smooth tile to the bumpy surface that felt familiar to a jungle and the entrance, walls and everything, they all looked like they disappeared. He felt like he just stepped into a virtual video game when in reality, it was just a room that shifted it's surroundings.

"This is so cool!" Hyuk shouted as he held his sword tightly, pulling it out in readiness. Hongbin grabbed at his daggers, readying them as well.

Ken pulled out a small looking folded up device that soon unfolded into a technological bow that looked more cybernetic than anything. Hongbin immediately recognized the weapon. It was an Ether-Composite Bow, a bow that required no arrows as the ammo the bow generates runs off of the magic power of the user; shooting laser arrows of magic. It's said that true masters of the bow could hold the arrow for longer aims for larger and more devestating results. Ken may have been a healer primarily as a caster, but his marskmanship was no joke.

"Ken-hyung is super cool huh?" Hyuk noted as Hongbin nodded,

"Yep."

The three of them traversed the jungle. The temperature shifted and mimicked that of an actual musky and humid jungle that caused the boys to sweat a little. Virtual technology at it's finest, being able to create such realistic structures that not only looked real, but felt real. The sounds of bugs and other jungle like creatures filled the air as one particular sound drew nearer.

"So, I may have decided to program a special enemy for us to try our medal at." Ken said, Hongbin slightly confused as suddenly he heard that ear searing animalistic cry that tore through his ear drums.
"Velociraptors?" Hongbin asked as one of them dove out of the bush.

"Sweet!" Hyuk cried out as he lunged at the one diving out of the bush with his longsword. He jumped into the air and made a slick diagonal slice, slashing it's neck and then taking it's head clean off. Hyuk cried out victoriously as the beast disintegrated into digital bits before nothing was left. However, the fanfare was interrupted as three more appeared in front of Hyuk; all of them were dispatched just as quickly however as ether laser arrows hit them one by one in a matter of milliseconds.

Hyuk looked back at Ken who smirked at the younger. "Don't let your guard down Hyukkie, the forest is a dangerous place. Come on, we have bigger fish to fry." Ken smirked as Hyuk and Hongbin followed in suit. Hongbin felt a little powerless, he wasn't able to show what he could do yet, but he had a feeling that he was able to show off his skills soon enough.

The trio arrived at what appeared to be a jungle spring of sorts, though Ken quickly told them to hush their movements as they drove closer, "That's a mother truckin T-Rex." Ken uttered under his breath as the animalistic sounds of a T-Rex eviscerating an animal, eating into its flesh filled the air. It was simply frightening. "Think we can take it on?" Ken asked curiously at Hongbin, to which he quickly nodded.
"We'll have to work together." He smiled and Hyuk giggled with glee.

The three of them slowly rose out of their cover and Ken motioned for the two to flank to T-Rex. "I'll distract him with my arrows, try not to get eaten or stomped on alright?' Ken nagged, using his old lady voice to add emphasis.

Ken walked over to the T-Rex, taking a good vantage point and stood at a large distance albeit directly in front of it. He began to charge an arrow as Hongbin and Hyuk readied their positions.

Finally, Ken let loose his arrow and it hit the T-Rex square in the head. Unfortunately the magic from his ether shot did little damage due to the creature's thick skull so he only grazed him. The monster however showed less mercy and began to bum rush towards Ken. Before he could get too far however, both Hongbin and Hyuk jumped from the sides and stabbed their weapons into the sides of the T-Rex. Hyuk impaling half of his long sword into the T-Rex' thigh, forcing his weight down to slowly gash his way down while Hongbin did the same although much higher and towards the creature's sides with his daggers.

The T-Rex cried out in pain as it shook viciously, causing Hyuk to lose balance and pull his sword out, throwing him off to the side. Hongbin however had enough stamina and energy to hold on. He used his daggers to sort of climb his way up the behemoth and rested on top of him, the creature still thrashing violently. Ken was shooting more arrows at the beast to draw his attention as Hongbin focused his magical energy to his daggers, whispering the enchantment, "Ignis Arma", as a coating the blade with a searing sheet of flame, punching the daggers into the skull of the T-Rex. "Ken cast something!" Hongbin knew Ken was an expert caster but the archer shook his head.

"I can't cast anything that won't hit you as well Kong, sorry!" Ken whined as he shot more arrows at the beast, this time he was shooting them on the side, and mostly at the limbs since it was already losing a lot of blood thanks to Hyuk's deep gash. Despite the fact that Hongbin felt that he was on a Rollercoaster due to the flailing of the dinosaur.

Hyuk finally recovered and shouted towards the two of them. "I got this! Glacies Arma!" Hongbin saw from the corner of his eye the bright almost white blue that coated his long sword. Hyuk began to constantly slash at the same gashed leg, this time, ice froze where the cuts were cut, slowly freezing up as ice started to freeze the entire leg. With one final slash, Hyuk crushed the ice, causing the entire limb to come off and the beast screeched painfully causing Hongbin's ears to hurt devastatingly. The beast finally thrashed enough that forced Hongbin to pull out his daggers and be thrown off the beast.

He was flung from the skull as he soar through the air. He felt his back hitting a bumpy tree with great velocity as he came crashing down from the air, only to be comfortable caught by Hyuk. "I got you Hongbin." He heard as he looked up and his met with Hyuk's. He couldn't help but to blush since their faces were really close, plus, Hyuk called Hongbin by his name. Ken quickly ran over and placed his hands over him.

"Aquas Curatio" Ken whispered as blue light shined over Hongbin, he felt droplets of water rain on his face and suddenly, his pain literally washed away. Ken was a wonder like that.

After the three of them recovered, the trio stared at the T-Rex who was now vulnerable and limping, losing an entire leg as it was clawing towards them. Absolutely relentless.

"Alright, this calls for a Delta Attack." Hongbin uttered as Ken and Hyuk nodded at him. "Ken and I are gonna cast spells from a distance, then you Hyuk will dive in to deliver the final blow with your blade." The strategy was sound and was put into motion.

Ken and Hongbin both held out their hands and casted their own spell elements.

"Ignis-!"

"Aqus-!"

"Duo!" They cried in unison as a moderately sized fireball shot from Hongbin's hand slamming into the T-Rex's face, knocking it back down further as Ken's spell activated; a torrent of water erupted beneath the T-Rex, splashing him and surrounding him with unrelenting water so sharp that it was like colliding with concrete waves.
Hyuk casted his own spell, the only spell he could really execute without a hitch, "Glacies Est!" He shouted as the water around the T-Rex froze. Est was a level one spell while Duo was level two. Normally an Est spell is too weak and causes scratches to say the least and isn't exactly effective if you wished to cause serious damage but thanks to the torrent of water surrounding the beast, the simple ice spell that would at the most give it's targets frostbite froze the water solid. And with one final sweep Hyuk swung his sword, slamming the blade against the ice and shattered the T-Rex into Diamond Dust.

And with that, victory rained upon them. It felt great. Ken cheered and jumped all over as Hongbin ran over to Hyuk to give him a pat on a back; but instead, Hongbin was lifted clean off the ground and swung around by Hyuk. The two of them laughed as the simulation ended and the jungle around them returned back to the bland, empty looking arena. "That was brilliant!" Ken shouted as Hongbin nodded, finally let down by Hyuk.
Suddenly the room was filled by the sound of slow and almost eerie applause. The three of them turned around to see that it was Leo and suddenly, a cold chill filled the air and it wasn't because of Hyuk's ice spells either.

"Impressive" Leo said suddenly. "You're Impressive" Leo corrected himself as his eyes locked onto Hongbin.

He was slightly confused. "I didn't really do anything, Hyuk delivered the final blow and Ken was leading us." Hongbin clarified as Hyuk stayed silent. He remembered how Hyuk told him that Leo scared the out of him, he was even too scared to call him hyung.

"Yeah why are you giving Kongbinnie all the credit? Is it because of his pretty face? Because I gotta admit, it's pretty pretty!" Ken bursted out, relieving some tension as he reached up and grabbed a thumb full of Hongbin's cheek, pinching it and pulling it apart. However, this didn't seem to amuse Leo at all, in fact his natural scowl looked even more angrier.

He took a couple steps forward and placed his long index finger on Hongbin's chest and trailed it up to his chin, looking down on him as he said two words that struck fear and shock into Hongbin.

"Let's duel."

A/N: Yay snuck in some action and Hyukbin moments are love, but don't worry shippers of other Kong ships, you will be satisfied soon enough. Still I wonder what's up with Leo's deal with Hongbin, it's almost as though there's a bigger meaning and reason behind it I mean what? Thanks for the nice comments so far you guys are lovely and I hope you stick around to the end If I even get out my clear main plot ideas first because clearly I just love writing filler but don't mind me. Also if you got all of my Final Fantasy references then extra brownie points for you!
