Suho had his hands stuffed deep into his fuzzy pockets. Despite the freezing winter air surrounding him, his palms grew sweaty with every step he took towards that all too familiar café just a few blocks from his apartment.
He knew that from the number of times that he had pulled himself together and let himself be brought by his feet to that same place, he should be used to it by now. But, how can you get used to someone that made your heart flutter just by the little things that they do?
Suho pushed the glass door open and was immediately greeted by that homey aroma of coffee. “Suho!” Her voice that always made his mind go crazy rang in his ears. “I was expecting you to come a bit later.” Eunhye chuckled as she wiped her hands on the front of her apron. I just really wanted to see you sooner. He thought to himself.
“Ah, I just thought it’d be better to be early than late.” He smiled and walked towards the counter where she stood.
Eunhye and Suho had been friends since high school and only now had Suho realized how much she actually made him feel so… Different? He didn’t even know how he felt towards her. He couldn’t pinpoint exactly how he felt. He couldn’t even put it into words.
“There’s really no in between with you, huh?” She smiled that breathtaking smile of hers and began cleaning up the counter with an old rag. “Don’t worry, I’ll just finish this and I’m off the hook.”
Suho took a seat inside one of the booths and patiently waited for her to finish up her work. He watched as she diligently arranged all the cups and table numbers on the counter. He admired her for how much effort she puts in her job.
It was a Saturday when Eunhye had told Suho that she had finally found a sideline job. She always wanted to earn a bit more cash so she could have money to spend on herself instead of using up the money that her parents saved up. She was one of the most independent and hardworking people that he knew.
Eunhye’s mother once asked him to wait for her one night and accompany her on the way home. Her father would have fetched her from the café but he was sick at that time and her mother didn’t know how to drive. Suho gladly said yes and did as told.
Ever since, he had always either waited for her to finish her shift and walk with her home or when she would insist that she was fine, he would just pay her short visits every day. It didn’t bother him, though. In all honesty, he would do anything to get to spend time with her.
“Bored?” Eunhye laughed as she snapped him out of his thoughts. She placed a cup of coffee in front of him then placed her bag next to it. “That’s yours. Thanks for waiting for me.” Suho stood up in surprise and chuckled. “You didn’t have to. You know I’d always do it for you.”
A shade of pink tinted his pale cheeks once he realized what he had just said. “I—I mean, you know, so you’ll be safe on your way home.” Nice save, idiot. He thought to himself and mentally flicked his own forehead. “Right.” Eunhye chuckled and wrapped a scarf loosely aroun
