What happened?
Was he still alive?
Did he die?
Where was he?

Minseok slowly opened his eyes to find himself laying on a white bed with a little green plant sitting at the side on a glass table.
He was at a hospital.

"Minseok! Minseok!" Luhan ran over to his friend realizing he had woken up. "Are you okay? Oh god, never ever do that to me again. I was scared for life. Goodness are you alright?" 

"Yeah... I feel okay." He replied.

Suddenly he noticed himself embraced by his friend.
A warm, reassuring hug.

"Minseok I was scared for my life and I had no idea what to do and--" he already had tears flowing out of his eyes.

"Don't cry.. I'm okay now." His voice slightly raspy.

Luhan smiled.
"Thank God you are."

Minseok smiled back.
"Thank you.."

"For what? I haven't done anything." Luhan replied.

"For caring."

Luhan held Minseok's hand.
"It's the least I could do."

His hand was so warm while Minseok's was so cold.
It reassured him.
Made him feel happy.

Suddenly they heard a knock on the door.

"Come in."

The door slid open.

"Ah, Mr. Kim Minseok, have you woken up now? My name is Dr. Hong."

He just nodded his head.
"Nice to meet you, Dr. Hong."

"Did you...uh... already know about your heart condition?" The doctor asked.

He nodded his head.

"You know, you're required to stay at a hospital." 

"I know... I don't have the funds." Minseok replied.

"Well... Do you have any family that might be willing to help?" Dr. Hong asked.

"I dont--"

"I will!" Luhan exclaimed.

Minseok turned to look at him.

"I will. I'll pay for it." He smiled eagerly.

"Okay! Thats great. So, we should discuss this later. I'll come back to check on you." Dr. Hong said before exiting.

"Luhan...you--"

"I'm your friend, Minseok. Why would I want to watch you die."

"Thank you. Thank you so much. But why waste all that money on me? I'm just....me..." 

"Minseok, you're more than just you. You're my friend. My unbiological brother. The person who makes me happy. And you being you is what makes you perfect." Luhan said.

Minseok shyly smiled.
"Thank you.... Luhan.

A few hours later a nurse came in.

"Uh, Mr. Luhan-ssi?" The nurse called.

"Yes?" 

"Dr. Hong would like to see you at his office at the current moment."

"Oh, just me? Okay, I'll be there." Luhan replied.

Luhan looked back at his friend.
"I'll be back." He smiled.

"Don't take too long!" Minseok exclaimed.

Luhan laughed.
"It's just across the hall, idiot."

"Bahaha, go. Quick."

Luhan nodded as he left.

He lingered in Minseok's mind.
Was being friends with Luhan a good idea?
When he leaves, what would Minseok do?
What could he do?
As much as he tried to ignore the fact that he would soon exit his world, it would always keep popping up.

Because nothing is forever.

"Ah, hello! Mr. Luhan?" The doctor greeted as he entered.

"Annyeonghaseyo, Dr. Hong." He bowed slightly.

"Are you... a relative of Minseok, perhaps?" The doctor asked.

"Umm, actually no. Just a close friend." He replied.

"Ah I see. Do you have any contact with his family?"

"No... not really. He doesn't have any... family."

"Oh... well I see. Here, I need you to sign a few papers and then pay the fee at the front desk." Dr. Hong said as he got out the forms.

Luhan quickly skimmed through the packet and signed the necessary areas and they soon had a discussion about Minseok's condition.

Minseok was still in the room.
He stared at the pale blue walls and thought to himself about life.

Life.
"What is life?" He asked himself.
He got out his phone and searched for the definition of life.

There were several results but one particularly caught his eye.

"Life: the individual existence of a human being or animal."

So simply existing was living?
Why did he feel so lifeless & dead?
If he was existing why did he feel so numb and asleep?

Did he really exist?

He pinched himself.

"Ow!" He yelped.

Yeah. He was alive. He existed. But was he living?

Soon enough Luhan came back.

He noticed his eyes were filled with tears.

"What happened? Are you alright?" Minseok quickly asked in worry.

He ran over to Minseok and held him closely to his chest.

"Idiot. Why. How--" Luhan was choked in his sob.

"You're the idiot here. You should tell me what happened before scolding me, first." He chuckled.

"You're condition... how--how could it get this serious? Why didn't you tell me? If we got treatment earlier, it wouldn't have gotten this bad." His eyes dripped with warm, wet tears as he held his friend tightly.

Minseok just looked up at him and smiled.

"How could you be smiling right now? You're probably in so much pain, Minseok, how?"

"I'm getting the treatment now. Don't worry. I wont die." He replied.

Luhan's warmth relaxed Minseok.
Minseok wanted it to be like this forever.

The definition of "life" was wrong.
Just because you exist, doesn't mean you're living.
You need that one person in your life that allows you to breathe and saves you from drowing, to actually live.

Luhan helped him live.
Now he was living.
