chapter 9

story by itsmemisstkytk -

Don't you just hate it when someone acts like they know more than you do, when it comes to something you're passionate about? I have to admit, we did get closer but that doesn't mean that that person knows more than me. I'm the author. I'm the one that started the story, it's my story, they have no right to in. Then again... the book has it's own mind as well. Is this what people call... jealousy? I'm not usually like this. I'm suppose to be the cold and quiet guy.

The annoying thing is lately, the book became popular. Usually authors love it when their books become popular, but to me, the book is more like a personal journal. I want it to venture out and be on other shelves but at the end of the day... Can't it just be mine?

The book has changed me so much. I'm more... relaxed. I'm more open. Each and every day, she teaches me something new as well. The feeling that she told me last time still lingers in my head. But right now, I can't. I don't see her that way. I'm sure I don't. I never felt this way before. I just know I want the book to stay with me forever. I want to continue being the author of the novel.

"Wait. So you're telling me, that starting next week we have soccer practice every single day besides Friday and the weekends?" Sehun groaned as he looked down at his paper and putting it against his face. It had been about two weeks since Seulgi transferred to the school. Kai didn't know if it was just him that noticed, but every time Seulgi complimented some guy in the school, Sehun would suddenly joined the organization that the guy was in. Not to make Sehun sound crazy or anything, but Sehun was also in all the clubs that Seulgi was in. Unfortunately for Sehun, he wasn't in the honor society club, since he was the type to slack off and never get any participation grades unless sports was involved. He was a smart guy, he just doesn't like to listen and liked to do his own things.

Being the observant guy he was, it seemed like people were more friendly to Krystal. It wasn't a bad thing, but Kai couldn't help but worry. The last time Krystal was "popular", Sulli ruined her life. Krystal was a lot happier now. She was just friendly to everyone. Kai was afraid that if she was too friendly, the same thing would happen again. The last thing he wanted to see was for her to get hurt again. Back then, he might have been able to stay strong and just feel sorry for the girl, but these days, when he thinks about it, his heart seems to slightly rip apart. He was afraid. The world was a scary place to him. People are fake, and they will always try to be on the side of whoever was more powerful. Just like how no one stepped in when Sulli bullied Krystal back then. No one but Kai himself.

"Yes. I told you this last time. I honestly don't know how you're still on the team. You never listen." Kai replied, shaking his head as Sehun nudged him, telling him to chill out and try being more "fun". Kai glared at him and continued walking towards the cafeteria. His eyes landed on Krystal who was standing in line. Her eyes brightened at the sight of the food being brought out as she bit her lip, standing on her tippy toes to try to see what was for lunch. A small smile appeared on Kai's face as he walked towards her. Standing next to her, he whispered, "It's donkkaseu."

Slightly startled, Krystal stared at him, her cheeks turning slightly pink as she nodded. "I never check the menu." She said shyly, making Kai chuckle softly. He looked down at her arms, her textbooks still in her hand since she rushed out of class to be able to be near the front of the line. Reaching over, he took her textbooks in his hands. Kai grabbed her backpack softly and nodded, letting her know that he can carry her backpack. Krystal hesitated for a bit, but that was the usual routine. Kai never let go until she gave her backpack to him. Sighing softly, she gave it to him, her arms finally relaxing by her sides as she let out a happy sigh.

"Should I get miso soup or kimchi stew?" Krystal whispered to herself before a loud cough was hear behind them. Turning around, Kai saw Seulgi as he nudged her softly before receiving a punch in the arm in return.

"I've been here the whole time and I didn't get a single hello." Seulgi stated, shaking her head and explaining how even Krystal forgets her presence when there is food right in front of her face. Kai only laughed as his eyes drifted back to Krystal. He knew she was impatient. All she wanted was the line to start moving. Before Kai could even speak to Krystal once again, panting was heard next to them.

"You disappeared!" Sehun shouted at Kai. "I told you I went to the bathroom. I told you to wait for me, did you even hear me?" Sehun whined as Kai rolled his eyes.

"I had other things to focus on." Kai replied before Sehun stepped between Krystal and him, nudging Kai back. Sehun casually rested his arm on Krystal's head before she looked up at him and his arm slipped and he stumbled back, bumping into Seulgi.

"Watch it, Oh." Seulgi warned, pushing Sehun in the back as he stumbled towards Krystal once again. Sehun smiled at Krystal, greeting her.

"Are you getting strawberries or apples today?" Sehun asked Krystal before she laughed softly and explained to him how she was allergic to apples. Kai watched from the side, with a straight face. Don't get him wrong, he likes Sehun. Sehun was a good guy. Since he moved into their homeroom, it had been more fun and Kai finally had a guy friend to explore more with. To see the fun places in Seoul that Kai never really bothered to go to alone.

But something about Sehun treating Krystal so nicely bothered Kai. Krystal wasn't shy around Sehun. She spoke to him like he's her friend, a close friend. Kai didn't want to admit that he was sad, but he did want her to talk to him more. He wanted to talk about her, but Krystal can't seem to open up as much yet. He didn't blame her. He can wait. He just wished he had the courage like Sehun to mess around with Krystal, to make her laugh more, to joke around with her. But Kai's personaility wasn't always like that. He needed to break out his shell.

"Miss. Kang, it's nice seeing you here." Sehun smiled reaching to pat her head before Seulgi slapped it away. "I was just going to fix it!" he told her before she rolled her eyes and the two started nagging and mocking each other.

The lunch line finally started to move as Krystal started jumping softly up and down. Kai couldn't help but chuckle at the sight, letting her go in front of him.

"Miso soup or kimchi stew?" The lunch lady asked, making Krystal slightly taken aback. Biting her lips, she realized how long the line was before she quickly answered kimchi stew and grabbed her tray. Krystal slightly pouted before waiting for Kai as he got his lunch and the two made their way to the empty table on the side of the cafeteria. As the two sat down, they saw Seulgi and Sehun arguing as always. Sehun trying to grab some of Seulgi's food while Seulgi yelled at him to not spill a single drop of it.

The four continued to eat their lunch. Their conversations included school work, random plans for the weekend, and the usual stuff. Kai watched and noticed Krystal not touching her soup. A small pout on her face as she looked down at it. She had finished everything but her soup and knowing Krystal, her appetite was getting bigger and bigger as the days went by. Taking her kimchi stew bowl, Kai switched it and gave her his miso soup, a confused look appearing on Krystal's face.

"I know you want the miso soup." Kai chuckled softly. "I saw you staring at mine when you were eating." He explained before Krystal's face turned red from embarassment. Quickly thanking him, she ate her soup with a smile on her face, her feet swinging under the table.

"Thank you, Jongin." She replied before he nodded and finished his lunch.

The day flew by quickly and it was finally their last period. The last period was gym. After everyone changed, they went out on the field. Everyone was required to do exercises and afterwards they were suppose to either play a team sport, depending on the classroom voting.

"Alright, I want everyone to finish a lap and afterwards, meet me in the gym, where we will be playing volleyball today. Those of you who are in the soccer team, you guys run two laps since you didn't clean up the locker room yesterday,'" the gym teacher said before making his way into the gym, leaving the students by themselves. A group of students began to run, wanting to finish the lap so they can go back into the AC. Krystal never ran, she was always one of the few to walk, and usually Kai would stay with her while Seulgi and Sehun would race each other. In the end it was always Sehun winning because of his long legs.

"You can run today, Jongin. I will catch up to you." Krystal suggested but like usualy Kai refused. He didn't know why she never ran, he just assumed that she didn't like running. "If you don't run, you'll never be able to go inside." Krystal explained before Kai nodded, agreeing with her. If he walked with her, he w
