Wait For Me

Taeminnie couldn’t sleep that night. Her best friend was going to another school. A boarding school to be precise. Even though they are neighbors, they couldn’t met regularly since the older boy was clearly not going to stay in his home. No one will help her with her homework no more. No one will nag at her for becoming so lazy when she’s in that time of the month. You know, girls tend to be so lazy during the time and only god knows how they actually hate themselves for having mood swings. But sometimes, Jinki managed to coop and tolerate with that. It was weird how a boy can wrap a girl around his finger even when she was in her extremely bad mood swing.

She grabbed her phone and dialed the number that she already knew by heart.

“Yes, baby?” Her heart softened a little by hearing his voice.

“Oh, shut up Jinki”, Taeminnie just giggled.

“You can’t sleep?”

Taeminnie shook her head. Jinki can’t exactly see it but he knew by heart that his best friend was shaking her head with a cute little pout. He chuckled.

"Can..you sing me to sleep, Jinki?", her voice echoed softly.

“Sure, Minnie. Anything you want”, Jinki laughed. “So what song do you want me to sing?”

“Ummm. Our song? Please”

“Minnie, we have tons of song. Which one?”

“The one you used to sing when I can’t sleep and when I’m feeling down”

“Alright, sweetie”

Both Taeminnie and Jinki closed their eyes trying to cherish the moments. Jinki sang his whole heart and the other listened to the older’s soft deep voice. She never admit but he Jinki sure own a nice voice.

One, two, three

I wake up and open my sleepy eyes
It’ll be tomorrow in a little bit
I feel bad for letting the day pass by so fast
I swallow sand

Time passes by hectically
Will we get so used to our fluttering feelings
That we’ll feel them as a definite thing?
I’m sad over pointless worries

Infrequent greetings
Actions that scarred softly
I didn’t mean to hurt you
I’m always sorry

Because you’ve always been there to protect me
Because you’ve taken the criticism that I should receive
You have shielded me without a word and now
I will reflect you like a mirror

Rewind the film of our memories
To the day we first met
My heart pounded, I couldn’t hide my tears
They overflowed as much as I was grateful

You understood me better than myself
When I was on the verge of breaking down
Seeing you having a harder time than I did
Made me cry like a child

There’s a connection in our relationship
A huge one that I can’t explain in words
Our conversations, piled with memories
Continue on today

Because you’ve always been there to protect me
Because you’ve taken the criticism that I should receive
You have shielded me without a word and now
I will reflect you like a mirror

Because you’ve always been there to protect me
Because you’ve taken the criticism that I should receive
You have shielded me without a word and now
I will hold you

When it becomes tiring and I want to give up
When I am weak and I want to run away
Your small hand becomes my biggest strength
For the rest of my life, I’ll sing a song for you

You have always been there
Believing in me and protecting me
I’ll convey this song of appreciation

At the end of this very long connection
At the end of this train stop, unaware of where it’ll reach
We learn as we go on and feel many things
I’m always late at expressing my emotions

You won’t be forgotten in my heart, right?
You’ll remain in my eyes as you smile, right?
If my joy can become your happiness
I’ll be thankful

The lyrics went  well with their situation- their heart. Both longing for each other. Yearning for each other. Still, neither one of them realized how attached their souls and minds were.

Taeminnie was in the verge of crying. She had tears in her eyes. No no no don’t cry. She didn’t know whether she should be happy because Jinki will realizing his dream or sad, because Jinki won’t be by her side no more. Maybe it because of the mood swings. Damn.

There was a pregnant of silence for a while and then Jinki heard a sniffling from the other line.

“Hey meenie, sweetie, are you ok?”

“Ha ha ha sure. I’m ok. Nothing to worry about”, she replied. Jinki knew that tone. He’s not friend with Taeminnie for nothing. He won’t acted like he know nothing about the younger. Jinki knew almost everything about Taeminnie.

“Thank you, Jinki. I guess, I could sleep now. Sorry for disturbing you”

“No, Taeminnie. You’re not disturbing at all. I like talking to you and you know that”

Taeminnie could imagined Jinki’s handsome prince smile that could made all the girls in the school melt and Jinki could see those pearly white teeth flashed upon him blinding his eyes.

“Goodnight, Jinki. I will miss you”, she whispered the last sentence softly while blushing.

“I will miss you too, Minnie. Goodnight. Sweet dreams, baby”, replied Jinki.

“Ohh shut up, Jinki”

Jinki could hear the younger laughter at the end of the line.

Both Jinki and Taeminnie wondered that night. Why do their heart felt like they're about to lose something precious. Of course we'll miss each other. We're best friend. All best friend do that. Right?
