After a long day of classes and assignments, all I wanted to do was relax a little on my walk back to the dorm before I hit the books, again. But, as my luck had it, I didn't get such a thing.
Tonight was one of those cloudless nights where the moon shone visibly in the night sky. So you could imagine my face of absolute horror when it started pouring within the next hour. Then it occurred to me that it was April. How thoughtless of me to not bring an umbrella in the month known for rain.
"Just my luck," I groaned in distaste. After taking a deep breath and with my school bad hovering above my head for rain protection, I sprinted down the empty streets as fast as my legs could take me. The raindrops tapping repeatedly against the concrete pavement which made Seoul look even more beautiful than usual. With it's water sparkling against everything it met and some even left water trails down the shop windows. Everything was silent and misty, as if I was standing in the middle of a fairytale. However, as beautiful as everything looked. It was hard to appreciate it when all I could see was water splashing against my glasses. Typical Aera. However, I did not stop nor made any efforts of cleaning up the water and continued rushing forward. It wasn't until a flash of gold caught the corner of my eyes, following by whimpers that of a small animal was heard that I slowed down. On the corner of the block where I stood, a little into the alley way, were the garbage stacks from the local department stores. And black garbage bags and boxes were thrown everywhere, as usual. But the thing I noticed was a little golden blob poking in and out of one of the torn boxes. It must be a cat. I thought as I slowly approached it. There had been many street cats in the neighbourhood as of late so I wasn't surprised to find one here. However what caught my curiousity was the fact that the cat was in the rain. Didn't cats hate water? "Here kitty kitty." I tried to sooth it as I cautiously stepped closer. "What are you doing out here in the rain?" I proceeded to flip the half-opened lid of the box in order to peak inside, then what I saw next broke my heart a little. Inside wasn't the kitten that I had originally expected, but a small wet puppy with bloches of mud and blood smudged on its golden fur. "Oh my god," I whispered and extended my hands to pick it up. "You poor thing." The puppy gave a jerk as soon as my hand made contact with its little head. It was cold and scared. It's eyes were only half open, opening and closing, and its head bobbing up and down as if it was knodding to sleep. When the puppy seemed to have gotten used to my touch, I slowly used my other hand and picked up its little furry body from the box. Completely forgotten about the rain, I ped my jacket and slipped the puppy inside in hopes of it getting some warmth after what it looked like it went through. "You're definitely coming home with me." I whispered as I tucked him in and zipped up the jacket until only its small head was poking through. I ran the entire way home without stopping and with one hand hovering above the opening of my jacket in case any rain gets on the puppy's head and the other holding onto the puppy's body securely on my chest. Arriving at the dorm, I hugged my backpack to my chest to cover up the golden fur that peaked out from the opening of my jacket. Pets were strictly not allowed in my campus dorms. It was the number one rule in my building and was enforced upon us since day one. "Oh Aera ah!" One of my floormates waved at me as she looked like she was headed out. "Back already? God, it must be raining hard outside, huh?" I smiled and nodded then hurried to my door. However just then, the puppy against my chest whimpered. I must have gotten too nervous and accidentally held on too tightly. "What's that?" The girl turned around and looked at me suspiciously. I looked around the hallway as if I didn't know what she was talking about. "That sounded like..." . I knew I was in trouble and I had to cover it up fast. "Oh the dog sound? Haha, it's my new notification ringtone. Cool, huh?" The girl blinked a couple times before she laughed. "Geez, Aera. I knew you were an animal lover but not to that extend. Anyways I gotta head off to meet my boyfriend. See ya!" I nodded and rushed into my dorm before any other incidents could occur. As soon as I closed and locked my door, i rushed towards the bathroom and settled the little wet ball of fur down into the sink and filled it up with warm water. At this point, the puppy must have been so tired from the harsh storm that it was already alseep as it sat in the warm water. "Let's get you cleaned." I said as I began to gently rub the mud and blood off of his fur. I examined closely as I washed every part of the puppy's body for any injuries but didn't find any, only a few scars. The blood must have been from before. The most prominent scar was the one on his lower lip, because there was no fur, making the scar rather visible. But I didn't concern myself too much by it because the scar was already a silver line which indicated that it was from quite sometime
