Chapter Three      Hard To Say I'm Sorry

If you love me, show me. If you need me, tell me. If you have me, show me off. If I'm worth it, fight for me. Because I'm not perfect, never have been, never will be

*tap tap tap tap*  Jiyong tapped his fingers against the table. He tapped, tapped and tapped.  He sighed and ran both of his hands over his face in annoyance. He was currently sitting inside a coffee shop that was near the hotel, he liked it a lot because the service was excellent and the coffee was dreamy. He ordered a capuccino and a turkey sandwich 5 minutes ago and now he was trying to check his messages on his phone while he waited for the food.  He woke up in a very bad mood and the last thing he wanted was to be bothered, so he canceled the last concert he had to perform in Kobe apologizing that he had a big headache. Now in the news people were commenting that he probably attended a big party and was hungover, it even appeared photos of someone who supposedly was him with a girl holding hands and being 'touchy'.

They could even do a 3 hours documentary about that news and make theories about how they met, where they went later, if he was unfaithful to his wife, if the girl knew that he was married, the hell he cared. But of course the less happy person  of this situation was Hwangsan, his manager, he wanted to kill him. In fact he had been bombarded with his calls and messages early in the morning desperately, Jiyong was going to ignore him but decided that it was better to tell him what was going on. Hwangsan finally understood and canceled his schedule, unfortunately he couldn't return to the United States until tomorrow because there was no occupancy today. So there he was, sitting in a coffee shop, although he had better things to worry about now. He wanted to return to New York as soon as possible to talk to his stubborn wife because this was coming too far. It had been a week since he last spoke to her, and four days since he received that voice message. How could he have forgotten such an important date? No wonder why she didn't want to answer his calls. Because he tried to call her...40 times to be exact. But in his defense, he was very busy with tour preparations and rehearsals, how could he remember when he had so much in mind?!  Suddenly a message arrived. ' you, Kwon.' Oh that was mature, Chaerin. Very mature. He smiled in disbelief and quickly dialed Chaerin's cell phone.    Hi, this is Chaerin. In this moment I don't want to take your damn call Kwon, so DON'T INSIST. And if you want to leave a message after the tone, do it. I will f*kking delete it without listening anyways, so don't even bother.... Thanks for nothing, bye.

He pulled his phone from his ear slowly, he was stunned. Did she really put that message in her message box? Had she lost her mind? Did she want everyone to know they were fighting? "Are you crazy?!" Jiyong yelled unconsciously at his cell phone, causing several curious persons to look in his direction. He saw them slowly and laughed nervously, that's when he realized that the waitress was serving his order and now she was looking at him with indignation and confusion. "Oh." He and the waitress exchanged glances. "Wait, I was not talking to you." He spoke quickly trying to apologize. He saw that the young girl wanted to answer him, but only ended up serving his  order to leave quickly. "Geez, I'm sorry!" How many times had he sighed this morning? He had already lost count. "I can't believ-" He picked up his cup of coffee and took a big sip quickly, to his bad luck the coffee had been very hot making his mouth burn in seconds. For an act of reflection he spit the coffee and began to scream in pain, being quickly aided by a waiter.

Oh what a beautiful morning.

"Are you crazy?! ... Hehehe .... Oh! ... Wait, I was not talking to you ... Geez .... I'm sorry! ... I can not believ-AHHHHHHHHH! HOLY MOTHER OF AKSJKSJKLWSOJAK! MY TWANGUE! MY TWANGUE! ... Sir, what happened? ... wait ... .. Elisa, come here and bring ice, NOW! ... What do you mean that you don't want to?! ... I DON'T CARE! I SAID NOW ... I don't care if he yelled at you, do as I say!...I CKWAN TWALK .... Sir don't speak ... YW DWON'T HWAVE TWHE RWIGHT TWA-... what?... I can't understand.... Hwang what? ...  Oh manager? ... NWOOOOOO! .... Ok ok I'll call him no-... WAAAAAA" Chaerin was inside her office, reading some documents when she received the call from Jiyong. She, stubborn as she was, let her answering machine answer to hear his reaction. What she didn't count on was that Jiyong didn't hang up, so she ended up listening to everything that happened, now she couldn't stop laughing. And she knew she shouldn't be laughing at her poor husband but it was too good to not to. Maybe it was a little cruel of her to let him suffer like that but he deserved it, that and more. Her laughter was perhaps too strong because Dara, a great friend of hers, came into her office to see if she was alright. Now she was looking at her as if she had a third eye on her forehead, causing Chaerin to laugh more intensely. "May I know what's so funny? Everyone out there is a little scared, we've never heard you laugh like that, I don't know if it's good or bad, you know" Dara said and sat across from her. Chaerin took a deep breath and tried to calm down. "Good" She laughed a little more and took a glass of water. "Definitely good." She responded and exhaled a couple of times, her stomach was still aching. "It's something between Jiyong and I"  Dara raised an eyebrow. "Didn't you guys have a fight? By the way, I heard your answering machine. This time you crossed the line"  Chaerin tried to control the possible attack of laughter that threatened to return. "I know, I'll call him later to see how is he" She picked up a magazine.  "What did you do to him?" Dara asked, and Chaerin looked at her with mock indignation. "I know you, something happened to him, right?" She realized soon. "Give me your phone" "What do you mean? What phone?" Chaerin grabbed her phone quickly and hid it behind her back. Dara rolled her eyes. "No wonder why you guys fight so much, you two are so childish!" She exclaimed and got up quickly to climb to the desk. "Give me the phone, I want to hear the answering machine"  "Get off my desk! It's made of original marble!" "Then give me your phone!" "No and get off now!" "Not until you give me your phone!" "Don't even think about it! And stop touching me, this blouse is from Paris!" "Chaerin, I'm older than you and he's my friend too! And I touch whatever the hell I want!" "I've said no!" * Crack * "Boss, here is the report that you asked me to d-" Chaerin and Dara looked in the direction of the door, there was Chanhyuk petrified. And they both saw the folder sliding slowly from his hands, making a dry sound as it fell to the ground. They both looked at each other and soon realized how much anyone could misunderstand their position. Without thinking twice, they both returned to their original positions and fix their clothes and hair.  There was an awkward silence in which no one said anything until Chanhyuk opened his mouth. "Awesome"  Chanhyuk said with the creepiest smile they had ever seen in their lives. "Alright. GET OUT OF MY OFFICE RIGHT NOW AND YOU BETTER ERASE THAT WEIRD SMIRK OUT OF YOUR FACE IF YOU DON'T WANT ME TO ERASE IT MYSELF!" Chaerin shouted, making him shudder completely. Chanhyuk left his office as if his life depended on it. Chaerin snorted. "Will you give me the phone now?" She heard Dara's voice so she handed her phone without looking at her. "Thank you, Chae." Chaerin saw her friend sit where she was before, completely unconcerned, and wanted to hit her in the face so bad.

Dara always gets her way. Always.

"How can you laugh at that? It's your husband, the poor man must be hurting" Dara said totally serious as she returned the phone to the owner. "Oh please, you almost pee on yourself" Chaerin responded defensively causing Dara to give a little involuntary laughter. "Yah! I can laugh. I'm the friend, not the wife" Dara defended herself with a smile. "Anyways, what are you going to do now?" Chaerin thought for a moment. "What do you mean? He just burned his tongue, it's not like he broke his arm or something" Chaerin said and felt a pillow hit her head. "Hey! What was that for?" "Did you listen to yourself?" Dara asked and made a gesture of throwing another pillow. "At least call him or text him to see if he's okay" Chaerin snorted and grabbed her phone reluctantly to start texting. When she finished, she put her phone down an sat down on her chair. Dara waited for her to say anything but she didn't.  "So?" Dara asked after holding her curiosity for ten seconds.  "I sent him a text message asking him how is he" Chaerin explained as she looked at the monitor on her laptop and typed in it. She glanced sideways at her friend and saw that she was waiting for more information. "That's all" "Is that it? You're so cold" Chaerin looked at her sharply. "He forgot our fourth anniversary, what do you expect me to do? To call him desperate just because he burned his tongue? He deserves that and more! He must be the one who calls to apologize to me" She returned her glance to her laptop and typed on it harder than she should.  Dara thought very carefully before speaking. "He called you, Chae" She said softly. "More than 40 times, I've seen your history call." Dara put her hand on Chaerin's and made her look at her. "I know we're friends but I'm your unnie, listen to me. Both of you are acting childishly. You can't fight like teenagers, and ignore any little quarrel you have just for immaturity and pride. Communicate, talk, try to solve your problems. You two have a beautiful daughter, and she deserves to live in a home where love reigns" Chaerin took Dara's hand and smiled gratefully. She had known Dara since she was a teenager and was grateful to her for taking care of her like a little sister. "I love you, both of you. You are my closest friends and I want to see you well, okay?" Dara smiled warmly and her cheek when she saw Chaerin beginning to cry. "Don't get sentimental... boss" She remarked the last word, making them laugh. Chaerin hug her. "Thanks Dara. I'll try to fix my problems with Jiyong, I promise" Chaerin raised her right hand as an oath. "And Chanhyuk, I swear if you don't go away I'll fired you!" Dara laughed as Chanhyuk fled for the second time. "That boy needs help"

Hwangsan stared at Jiyong. He kept his face as serious as he could. But the truth was that he wanted to laugh very hard, it truly was funny.  Jiyong was in a hospital bed, though it truly wasn't necessary. He had bandaged most of his head and the doctor had given him painkillers to control the pain. Still, he was babbling to the poor nurses who were frightened by his attitude. Hwangsan thought Jiyong looked funny, but he would never confess it. With his humor he had these last couple of weeks, the last thing he wanted was to make him angry. "Jiyong, you can't sue the waitress just because you burned your tongue" Jiyong shot him a nasty look. "WHY NWOT? I'm a rwapper, I use mwy twangue a lwot! She could rwuin mwy career!" He tried to speak and flinched at the effort. "It hwurts, you know?" "You'd better not speak for now" Hwangsan advised him and gave him a disapproving look. "Besides, it's just a slight swelling. In an hour you'll be perfectly fine" "I dwon't care. That damn girl..." Jiyong showed his colorful vocabulary. "You see? You're already beginning to talk normally, you did not need all this drama for just a tongue burn" Hwangsan suppressed the laughter that was about to come out of his mouth at the sight of Jiyong's gaze. "With ice, this would have been healed" Jiyong said nothing. "Unless..." Hwangsan suddenly realized. "You're not thinking about postponing your flight, are you?" Jiyong said nothing again. "This is incredible" His manager looked at him hardly. "All this theater was because you don't want to go back to New York?" He didn't  even let him speak. "I can not believe it. I can't believe how childish you can be. I've made a lot of calls to satisfy your tantrum. You don't know the things that I've done so you can travel as soon as possible and you-!" "Hwangsan!" Jiyong caught his attention. "I'm sorry... but I was truly hurted. Now I feel better, I'll travel tomorrow" He saw his manager calm down. "And I will sue no one. I need to see my wife as soon as possible" "Talking about that, what's the reason for the urgency to cancel your presentations? What have you done this time, Kwon?" Hwangsan knew only half the story, he knew they had argued, but not the reason for their argument. And Jiyong wasn't planning of telling him that. "I haven't done anything. It's her who always accuses me of things I haven't done. I am the victim here" "I know you two well enough, and I know that you never hurry to return home, nor does she ever avoid your calls" "..." "Jiyong..." "Alright, keh. I was avoiding her for days" He paused as he prepared himself for the lecture. Hwangsan keep looking at him without saying anything. "And I..." Jiyong avoided Hwangsan's gaze. "I... I kinda forgot our fourth anniversary" "You what?!" Hwangsan looked surprised. "Jiyong, you fool! It's no wonder why she doesn't want to talk to you. How could you forget something so important?" He shook his head making Jiyong rolled his eyes. "Married for four years for nothing!" Just like magic, someone entered the room. Jiyong ducked his head as soon as he saw who was at the door. "Daesung, hi, how are you? Did you come to see me or to make fun of me?" Daesung smiled a little. "I came to see you, dear friend. They told me that you were in serious danger, so I wanted to say goodbye to you and  try to persuade you to sign me a power of attorney for the transfer of all your fortune to my bank account" He told him casually despite seeing Jiyong's frightened face. "Too bad you're okay" "What?!" It was the first word he could articulate because his astonishment didn't allow him to react. Then he heard his manager's laugh. "Obviously it's a joke, don't be silly" Hwangsan looked at Daesung when he didn't get a reaction. "Doesn't it?" "Then why is he carrying a folder and a pen?" Jiyong asked and snatched the folder from Daesung's hands. When he opened it he saw that it was indeed a power of attorney. "What does this mean, Daesung?" Jiyong lowered his voice, and he was about to lauch himself at his so-called bestfriend when Daesung stopped him. "It's a joke, okay? Relax" Daesung star
