Epilogue

Bent, Not Broken

"JungMin?" KyuJong called, looking around the outside of the church for his boyfriend. Not seeing any sign of the younger man, he blew his hair out of his eyes with a sigh. He glanced at his watch and noted the time, adjusting the sleeves of his suit a little uncomfortably as he took another cursory glance around. Waves lapped up onto the island's shore, and birds flew in the clear sky overhead.

It was the perfect day to get married. Except one of the grooms was currently in the middle of an anxiety attack and his best man was nowhere to be found. Huffing to himself, KyuJong turned to try the reception hall instead. Pushing in past the double doors, he looked around the room. "Min? Saeng!"

He spotted his best friend near the back of the room, waving frantically as he walked over. "Have you seen JungMin around?"

"I think they went to the bar," YoungSaeng said. "Your boyfriend heard 'open bar' and got a look in his eye."

"…Of course," KyuJong gave a long-suffering sigh. "They? What, did Hyun go with him and leave you here to fend for yourself?"

"No, I made him get me something if he was going," YoungSaeng said simply. "Is something wrong?"

"RyeoWook's having a case of the nerves and won't listen to me," KyuJong replied. "So I need to find JungMin and get him to snap Wook out of it." He looked around. "Where's the bar again…?"

"Other room through that door," YoungSaeng nodded towards a set of double doors. "Or they went to the one out on the beach to check out the hot guys. If Hyun doesn't hurry back that's where I'll be to score a free drink."

"I'll send him your way if I find him," the younger man snorted, heading towards the doors. Sure enough, he didn't have to look far to find JungMin and HyunJoong talking with the bartender. "Hey Min," he walked over, lips quirked. "You're not getting drunk for your best friend's wedding, are you?"

"Hm?" JungMin looked up when KyuJong spoke, hiding the glass he had in his hand behind his back. "Absolutely not. What kind of best friend do you think I am?"

"The kind of best friend who's needed elsewhere," KyuJong smirked, holding out one hand. "So hand it over."

Shoulders slumping, JungMin sighed and handed over the drink. "YoungSaeng tattled didn't he? Your boyfriend's kind of a joykill sometimes Hyun."

"That was probably his way of reminding me he wants a drink too," HyunJoong smirked, picking up the extra glass the bartender had just placed down and standing.

"The drinks are free, you can come back later." KyuJong placed JungMin's drink on the bar. "RyeoWook's having a nervous breakdown, time to be a best friend."

"What? What's wrong?" JungMin blinked, getting up and going to the door. "What happened? He was fine just a few minutes ago."

"He's getting married Min, people get nervous when they're about to get married." KyuJong waved farewell to HyunJoong as he followed JungMin. "The fact that JongWoon insisted on a fancy place like this probably isn't helping, though at least it's in a church like Wook wanted."

"JongWoon picked the location because it's legal for them to get married in Aruba," JungMin said. "I don't know what Wook has to be nervous about. Those two were already an old married couple."

"Don't tell me that, go tell him that before he paces a hole in the floor," KyuJong shook his head. "And you know as well as I do that JongWoon could have picked some quiet, modest church in Europe or Canada, but no, he went and picked the island in the Caribbean."

"Of course he did, it's beautiful here," JungMin grinned back at him. "It's winter in Europe, why would you get married in winter when you can get married where it's sunny and then go have a drink on the beach?"

"Some people like the snow, you know," KyuJong wrinkled his nose at JungMin. "I think it's romantic to get married in the winter, with everything covered by a white blanket."

"But it's cold," JungMin blinked. "Honeymoon somewhere snowy? Sure, you can snuggle up together to keep warm. But wedding is definitely somewhere where you can go for a swim beforehand and all your drinks come with umbrellas."

"I just think you would rather be anywhere you can get a drink," KyuJong rolled his eyes, hooking his arm around JungMin's. "At least it's not us getting married, I'd have a hard time keeping it out of Las Vegas."

"Hey, I can be romantic," JungMin said, pouting at him. "Las Vegas would be kind of nice. I heard somewhere they have wedding chapels where you can just drive up to it, can get married right in your car."

"…If you're trying to convince me you can be romantic, you might want to rethink that last sentence." KyuJong patted JungMin's arm.

"I can be romantic," JungMin grumbled, poking KyuJong's arm. "I'll show you later just how romantic I can be." They were coming up on RyeoWook's room and JungMin frowned a little at the door. "Why don't you go see how JongWoon's doing while I try and calm him down?" he said, looking at KyuJong.

"Sure," KyuJong nodded. Leaning up, he kissed the corner of JungMin's mouth. "By the way, you look really good." Pulling back with a smile, he turned and went in search of the other groom.

"I do, don't I?" JungMin chuckled, watching KyuJong go before turning the handle to the door and poking his head in. "Wook? You still in here?" he called. "I hope you didn't crawl out a window or something."

"Min?" RyeoWook came into view of the door, eyes wide. "I'm still here. I think the windows are barred shut anyways. Think people have crawled out of them before? I'd probably break my neck."

"Yeah, you probably would," JungMin said, slipping into the room and closing the door behind him. "What's going on Wook? Kyu says you're freaking out."

"Freaking out, about to pass out, same thing." RyeoWook wrung his hands, pacing around the room. "I…I'm getting married. In like half an hour. Is it half an hour? I'm scared to look at the clock, I don't know if I'm ready."

"Why don't you think you're ready?" JungMin asked, watching him pace. "You two have been planning this shindig for months. I don't know two people who are more ready to get married than you and JongWoon."

"I never even thought I'd get married one day. If I did, I thought it would be to some girl my parents picked out, and if I was lucky she'd be a nice friend, and if I wasn't lucky I wouldn't be able to stand her. But I love him, and I just… It's a lot. What if he changes his mind in a couple years?"

JungMin chuckled a little, sitting down in one of the chairs. "You know, I remember when JongWoon asked you to move in," he said. "You were so afraid of your parents finding out, and you had no idea if it was the right decision. You asked me pretty much the same thing. What if JongWoon changes his mind in a couple of months? Well he didn't, and it's been god... three years now? That man is devoted to you in every sense of the word Wook. He willingly got himself cut off from his dad's money tree for you and was willing to do whatever it took to be with you. I don't think he's going to change his mind."

"You sure?" RyeoWook stopped pacing, looking at JungMin. "Cause I could handle it if someone I didn't really like decided they didn't want to be married down the road…but I don't think I could handle it with him. I love him so much."

"Have I ever steered you wrong?" JungMin smiled softly at him. "He loves you, kind of a lot. Look at the ring you've got on your finger. That's not the kind of ring someone gets if they just like someone. He spent a lot of time picking that out just for you, and even got the size right. I think he wants to keep you."

Looking down at the engagement ring, RyeoWook couldn't help but smile. "I guess he does." Closing his eyes for a moment, he took a few deep breaths before opening them again. "Okay…I'm okay."

"You sure? I can go see if JongWoon's mom has some valium or something," JungMin said, getting to his feet. "She looks high as a kite out there."

"I don't need to be drugged up on my wedding day…I think." RyeoWook stepped forward, colliding with JungMin to wrap his arms around the older man in a hug. "Thank you, hyung. You always set me straight. Or…not straight. Maybe that was the wrong word to use."

JungMin snorted at that, hugging his best friend tight. "That's the first time someone's ever said that particular phrase to me, but I know what you mean. You don't have to thank me Wook. This is all part of being the best man. So was planning the bachelor party."

"…You had a bit too much fun with that," RyeoWook turned pink and shook his head. "I was thinking, before I started panicking…I would have liked my parents to be here. Even after everything. But then I remembered I do have family here," he smiled up at JungMin. "Cause you're here."

"Aww, you can be so cute," JungMin grinned, pinching RyeoWook's cheek a little. "You'll always be family to me, no matter what."

"I won't forget it, so you better not either. Does this mean I get to be your best man one day?" RyeoWook asked, eyes dancing.

"Absolutely," JungMin nodded. "You better pack mittens though, I think Kyu and I will be getting married in an igloo if he has anything to say about it."

RyeoWook laughed, pulling back. "At least it won't be boring?" His eyes went to the door, hearing the noise outside it increasing. "…Uh-oh. What time is it?"

"Probably time to go," JungMin said. "You sure you're okay to do this? I'll be right next to you if you think you're going to pass out."

"So you'll catch me if I start to go, right?" RyeoWook drew in a deep breath, checking to make sure his suit wasn't creased.

"If your soon to be husband doesn't first," JungMin nodded, going to the door and opening it. "Let's get this show on the road. There's a drink at the bar with my name on it."

That earned a laugh, RyeoWook shaking his head before straightening. "Okay. Let's go." He stepped out of the room, looking around as he rested a hand on JungMin's arm. Music had started to play from the chapel.

JungMin was never a big fan of weddings. So much talk about religion and god with too big a price tag and he's usually snoozing before the vows are made. As a best man though, watching his best friend get married, he couldn't help but have a big smile on his face the whole time. Once the vows had been given, and rings exchanged, JongWoon swept RyeoWook into a hug and a deep kiss. JungMin wasn't alone as he cheered for the newlyweds, though JongWoon's parents looked scandalized at how long the kiss went on for.

By the time pictures were done and the guests had moved on to the reception area, JungMin felt he had well earned his drink, making a beeline for the bar with KyuJong in tow. "You can't tell me to drink in moderation tonight Kyu, my best friend just got married and I want to celebrate."

"Ack." KyuJong staggered as he was practically dragged, regaining his balance and catching up. "As long as I don't have to carry you back to the hotel cause you passed out. Did you see YunHo's pictures? They're gorgeous, I asked him for a copy."

"Of course they were gorgeous," JungMin said, motioning towards the bartender when he approached. "Gorgeous people only know how to take gorgeous pictures."

"Then why do all your pictures turn out crooked?" KyuJong chuckled. "Order me something good? I don't know half of these drinks."

"It's called a stylistic choice," JungMin grumbled. Ordering a couple of drinks, JungMin sat down on one of the stools and pulled KyuJong onto his lap. "Well, I don't know if the ceremony was worth flying all the way out here for, but I'm sure the reception will be."

"Your best friend got married and you don't think the ceremony was worth it?" KyuJong had of course teared up during the vows, and had started crying outright when he realized how RyeoWook had been holding back his own tears of happiness through the whole thing.

"Well of course I think the ceremony was worth it," JungMin huffed. "I just mean... I think we'll all remember the fun we're going to have at the reception then the actual ceremony itself."

"What kind of fun?" KyuJong grinned, making himself comfortable in JungMin's lap as their drinks arrived.

"Well, dancing and laughing, and watching RyeoWook smash cake in JongWoon's face," JungMin said, an arm going around KyuJong's waist to hold him steady.

"That does sound like fun." KyuJong snorted. "JongWoon's face will be priceless." His eyes wandered around the room, before finding a familiar face. "Uh oh, someone's found an admirer." One of RyeoWook's coworkers was flirting shyly with YunHo, who seemed entirely unaware he was being flirted with but smiled back at her nonetheless.

"Maybe someone should warn her," JungMin said. "Don't need another heart broken."

"Maybe…or maybe not." KyuJong's lips curled into a soft smile. "YunHo's not wearing his ring today."

"Really? Well, that's an improvement," JungMin said, resting his chin on KyuJong's shoulder. "Though I'm not sure it was such a good idea to choose a gay wedding to finally start looking again. Unless he's thinking about branching out."

"I think we've all established YunHo is straight. I'm glad for him either way, and I'm sure HeeBon would be happy too." KyuJong looked at JungMin as best as he could with the younger man's head on his shoulder. "I forgot to ask, how's SungMin doing?"

"Since he moved out? Good. He's still clean, and not bothering me anymore," JungMin said. "And from the way he talks he's got a cute guy he's been flirting with at his new job."

"Good for him. And you? Enjoying having your apartment all to yourself still? Even if I do come by practically every day to make sure you don't starve."

"I think it's been good for me, and for us," JungMin nodded. "Since SungMin left, it's the first time I've ever had a bed to myself. I don't know if I like it as much."

"I guess I could say the same thing," KyuJong smiled softly. "Especially since YoungSaeng spends most his time over at HyunJoong's apartment, it's a little too quiet."

"I have to say, I'm still kind of in shock about that," JungMin said, finding where HyunJoong and YoungSaeng were seated at a table. YoungSaeng was using HyunJoong as a footrest. "I never suspected YoungSaeng. Not once. And he landed a guy like HyunJoong before he even came out? Lucky guy."

"Are you saying I'm not good enough?" KyuJong pouted at JungMin.

"... What?" JungMin blinked at KyuJong. "What? No, absolutely not what I'm saying," he said, backpedaling immediately when he realized what he said. "I mean Hyun has nothing on you. You're cuter, and have a nicer . He's not even in your league."

"Because you would know what his looks like?" KyuJong raised an eyebrow; he was just teasing JungMin now.

"... Well I mean," JungMin floundered, pouting at KyuJong. "You can't expect a guy not to look right? I've seen you check out other guys before, so don't look at me like that."

"I know, you're just fun to tease," KyuJong shook his head, leaning in to kiss JungMin. "And just so you know, YoungSaeng was trying to set me up with him. But he's no JungMin."

"So I was right!" JungMin said, poking KyuJong in the stomach. "You told me he wasn't!"

"Because you would have chewed the poor guy out, and then I would have had to explain that I was trying to set him up with YoungSaeng instead, and YoungSaeng would have killed me for giving away his secret," KyuJong yelped, poking JungMin back.

"Doesn't matter, I was right," JungMin huffed, swatting at KyuJong's hand. "But you're god damn right he's no JungMin. His hair isn't nearly as fabulous."

Catching JungMin's hand, KyuJong kissed his boyfriend's fingertips. "There are other reasons besides your hair."

JungMin's lips curled into a smile at that, brushing his thumb over KyuJong's cheek. "Yeah... maybe later tonight we can talk about those reasons," he said softly. "And the reasons why you're absolutely perfect as well."

Smiling at the light caress, KyuJong put his drink down before wrapping his arms around JungMin's neck. "I love you, Min," he murmured, kissing JungMin softly. "I always have, and I always will."

"I love you too Kyu," JungMin replied into the kiss. Maybe their lives weren't perfect, and maybe they would still fight now and again, but what was important was that they did love each other. And that wasn't going to change. It had been a long and sometimes brutal road that they had traveled to get where they were, but JungMin wouldn't change a moment of it.

Everything that had happened to them, and their friends, had brought them to this point. JongWoon and RyeoWook, a seemingly unflappable couple had weathered a breach of trust and crippling self-doubt only to now be happily married. They made relationships look easy; as long as you trust one another and communicate, nothing can break you apart.

JungMin was proud of RyeoWook for how far his best friend had come, just as he knew KyuJong was proud of YoungSaeng. From complete denial of himself to finally embracing who he was, YoungSaeng had come further in such a short amount of time than anyone JungMin had ever known. JungMin knew how big of a role HyunJoong had been in helping YoungSaeng to get where he was, but it was also a testament to YoungSaeng's sheer will that rose up from his darkest hour to now being a voice for the gay community.

Maybe life had taken them on some twists and turns along the way, but JungMin knew that he and KyuJong were made for each other. No matter how bad things had got, KyuJong had always believed in him, and JungMin had never given up on his love for KyuJong. Sometimes it felt like it wasn't worth the effort, but JungMin knew it was. Sharing moments together like watching their best friends get married, knowing that one day it could be them vowing to spend the rest of their lives together, it made everything they had gone through, everything they had put each other through worth it. And JungMin wouldn't change any of it.

Subscribe to it over here!

Thank you again!! <3 You are awesome!

@jasminscent: Thank you so much ;; <3 And thank you for leaving comments for us! It means a lot.

@ping501: Real life will never be perfect, but I think they're fine with that. As long as they keep working things out, they'll be fine. Hearing this story was an eye-opener is the greatest compliment ever <3 And thank you so much!! I'll definitely update everyone if it does get published.

@LovelyYS: Glad you liked the story bb~~ <3

@Forest_pixi: I'm gonna miss your monster comments! XD Slight wrap-up for Sungmin, he was never part of the main cast but it wouldn't have felt right to just leave his part hanging. As for who he's flirting with at his job, I'll leave it up to your imagination ;D Kyusaeng bffs were so much fun to write, best friends can be just as much fun as couples. And LOL Yeo-yeo...yo-yo? New nickname? XDD It's cute. YOU KNOW WHAT we were actually considering Sungmin and Saeng ending up together! It was a serious thing we considered for a bit! (saengiephilei wouldn't say 'seriously considered', more like 'smash them together because yeah') But Hyunsaeng won out XD Those two could have been fun though, oh well we shall just have to imagine.

@Shrimanti: It really is important, and I'm so happy you felt it was conveyed properly here. We really really wanted to do it justice. And we'll definitely keep writing :) Thank you so much for the lovely comment <3
