“What were you thinking back there? There is absolutely no way you’re going to convince Jongin.” Luhan and Kyungsoo were back at the latter’s house after the incident at the café.

“Hyung! I thought you said any café would hire me. How can you change your statement like that?” Kyungsoo pouted at his cousin.

“Honey, let me rephrase what I said before. Any bakery or café EXCEPT L'élégance would hire you. Jongin doesn’t accept workers, no matter how talented they are. Sehun is only able to help out there because they grew up together, and he’s Jongin’s only friend.”

Kyungsoo furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, “Why doesn’t he hire anyone? Is he very anti-social? It’s sad he only has one friend. There must be a reason for all this, and I’m going to make sure to find out.”

Luhan sighs in defeat. Once Kyungsoo becomes determined on something, he will see through it to the end. “Anyway, why do you want to work there? Sure the café is quite accomplished, but there are other bigger companies out there that are more than willing to accept you.”

The younger suddenly becomes silent, thinking back to when he first moved to Seoul.

8 years ago

Kyungsoo was ten years old and just moved from the States to Seoul. While his parents started unpacking and settling down in their new home, Kyungsoo went off to explore his new neighborhood. He brought along two cupcakes he made himself in case he got hungry. His eyes went wide at the bustle of the city and the various street foods found by the road. Feeling excited, he started walking in random direction, taking note of some shops so that he could find his way back later on.

After walking for more than an hour, Kyungsooo started feeling tired. Spotting an empty bench in the nearby park, he ran over to it and propped his container of cupcakes on his lap. his lips, he picked up one of the cupcakes and placed it near his mouth. As he was about to bite it, he noticed a boy around his age standing not too far off, with red, puffy eyes that indicated he had been crying. Feeling bad for him, Kyungsoo walked over to him, offering his other cupcake as he stood in front of the boy.

“Do you want one? I have another one here.” The mysterious boy seemed to have woken up from his daze, staring at Kyungsoo’s outstretched hand holding a cupcake. He looked up at Kyungsoo, trying to figure out the other’s intention before deciding to accept the cupcake. Kyungsoo returned to the bench and patted the space next to him, prompting the boy to sit with him.

It was silent between them as they ate the cupcake. From time to time, they would sneak glances at the other. At one point, they both glanced at the same time, gazing into each other’s eyes. The boy’s cheeks became a little pinkish before turning his focus back on his almost-finished cupcake.

Kyungsoo took his time observing the boy while he ate. His skin was a little tan, lips that were full and red, and high cheekbones. He was quite good-looking, and might turn out to be even more handsome when he grows up.

Once they finished eating, he turned to Kyungsoo. “Thank you for the cupcake. It was delicious.”

“R-Really? I made it myself.” Kyungsoo blushed at the comment. This was the first time anyone has tasted his creation. He was always too shy to let anyone try it, in fear that they would not like it.

The boy’s eyes widen at the revelation. How was he able to make such delicious desserts at such a young age?

“It’s really delicious! You have a talent at this. I’m sure if you keep practicing, you’ll be a top pâtissier!” The boy’s voice was laced with sincerity, giving Kyungsoo more confidence in his creations.

“Well then, is there anything you are good at?” The boy was taken aback at the sudden question. He suddenly got shy, cheeks tinted a faint shade of pink.

“I’m learning coffee making from my grandfather. He says I got potential, but my parents don’t think so. They think I should study hard and be a lawyer instead…” His voice was barely above a whisper that Kyungsoo almost missed it. Kyungsoo then smiled encouragingly, patting the boy’s shoulder.

“Well, it depends on what you think then. Do you enjoy coffee making or studying? I think you should choose whichever your heart desires.”

The boy furrowed his brows, thinking hard about what Kyungsoo had just said. Suddenly, he turned to Kyungsoo, his eyes filled with determination.

“If I work hard to become a top barista, will you give me a chance to taste your desserts when you become a pâtissier?”

Kyungsoo felt something deep inside of him warm. A boy he just met thought so highly of his skills, and is even willing to root for him in the future.

Ever since that day, the boy and Kyungsoo never met again, but Kyungsoo could never forget about the promise. The promise that both of them would meet again after they both accomplished their goals.

“So… you made a promise with a boy you met on the street? That still doesn’t explain why you would want to work at Jongin’s café.” Luhan folded his hands across his chest, waiting for the answer to his question.

“I don’t know. When I tasted the coffee Jongin made, I had that same feeling that I felt back then when I made that promise with the boy. And thinking back, Jongin did have some resemblance to the boy, although I can’t say for sure since I don’t really remember his face that well…”

“Well then, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens if you get accepted by Jongin. You better get to work then. You have to find a way to convince Jongin, and believe me when I say he is stubborn. It might take a miracle for you to change his mind. But then again, you always surprise me with your talent, so work your magic kay? I’ll get going now.” Luhan gave Kyungsoo an encouraging hug before leaving.

Kyungsoo let out a sigh before gathering the things needed for making his dessert. Just you wait Kim Jongin. I’m going to convince you to hire me, whether you like it or not.

[A/N] Finally!!! I'm not exactly happy with this chapter to be honest. But I guess it's better than just sitting there waiting for my memory to come back (which is never). I'm thinking of ending this fic in a few more chapters, since I can't remember the flow of this story. I'm really disappointed in myself for neglecting this fic for so long, resulting in me forgetting the storyline of this fic. So DON'T PROCRASTINATE PPL!!!
