Nightmare
The Untold TruthNightmare~
The town sleeps, and the streetlights glow under the dark atmosphere; it is night. I finally retire from my work of unfinished sketches and join my empty bed. Pulling my shirt off and climbing in, placing my spectacles on the nightstand and clicking the lamp off. Allowing nothing but the silence of the night to soothe me into sleep. Breathing slowly, and pulling my blanket up over me, I hear the sound of cars along the road. Sleep has hugged me now, no sound is heard, nor light through the blinds is seen; just me and my mind fast asleep.
Thunder rumbles and lightning flickers off the walls.... The young, version of me, wakes up from the noise and sits up in my bed; looking deeply into the darkness. Even though the storm rages outside, I walk to the door and peer around, in the hallway. A sound of a muffled cry is heard, but it was lost in the rumbling of the thunder. Did I dream that? I, in my flannel pajamas, walked down the long dark hall. Tracing my hand along the carved walls, in this opulent, home my father built. The lightning illuminating the family portraits and old China.... Uncle....Aunt....Grandpa...I continued walking, trying to forget the way the portraits looked in the dark of the night, and the lightning flashes; that distorted their faces. Half way down the hall I stopped and looked to a door slightly cracked. Something of dark liquid, slowly seeping out of the room, from beneath the door. Forcing myself to walk, I closed in on the door; pushing the door open. A man, hunched over a woman, his tears streaming, and cries from his gut; flooding the room.......Father?.....He looks to me, his face swollen from crying and the woman's arm falls limp to the side. A cut made and crimson blood pouring out of it....I fell back in horror, bumping into my older brother, Yunho. Who lifted his flashlight up in the doorway and covered his mouth, as we both jumped at the sudden boom of thunder....Mother~~
I snapped up from the nightmare, breathing heavy, sweat dripping down my face and my body sticking to my blanket and pants. Getting up disjointedly, running to the bathroom; lifting the toilet cover and vomiting. Arching my back as I was done, flushing the toilet, and turning the faucet to the cold water. Splashing the freezing water on my hot face, gripping the sides of the sink, until my fingers turned white. Looking up into the mirror, my eyes bloodshot, my skin pale, and my body fragile looking. Anymore of these flashbacks, I call nightmares and I might not make it. Turning the faucet off and switching to the shower, walking to my bed, pulling the sheets off. Replacing them with fresh ones, throwing the soaked ones into the far left corner of my room. I pulled my pajama bottoms off, and then peeled out of my soaked briefs. Stepping into the cold water, inhaling sharply a few times until my body heated itself to the cold touch. Letting the water drip off my black hair and down my entire body. Getting ready to get out, twisting the hot water faucet on, allowing the heat to calm my muscles. Seeing I was calm now, I turned the water off, and stepped out of the shower, grabbing my towel. Briefly drying my hair, allowing it to dry curly, as I dried off my wet body. Folding the towel and placing it on the rack, whilst grabbing my fresh pajamas and pulling my damp hair into a high bun. Grabbing my bedding and clothing that I soaked earlier, throwing it in the wash. Walking back to my bed and checking my clock, a long exhale whispering out.
