“I’m sorry, dear. Jongin called in sick today,” a young girl with lime-sherbet-green hair said from behind the bar where Jongin could usually be found working. She had stated this without prompt when Yixing and Luhan had taken seats at the bar. “I’m his substitute tonight.” She winked at them.
“How did you know we were here to see Jongin?” Yixing asked rather dumbly.
“I’ve heard a lot about you two,” she replied with a bit of a cheeky grin. “It’s been a while hasn’t it?” she asked Luhan a little less than pointedly.
“Yeah, it has,” Luhan replied vaguely. Yixing failed to notice the secret exchange between the two.
“And how have you been my little deer?” she inquired pleasantly.
“Don’t call me that,” Luhan complained good-naturedly, puffing his cheeks out. “I don’t look like a deer.”
“You really do. It’s probably your eyes. They’re so big and innocent,” Yixing put in unhelpfully. Luhan sighed dramatically, realising this argument was a lost cause.
“This cutie must be Yixing right? Jongin has told me a lot about you. Worry not, dear, they’re all good things,” she laughed. “What can I get you to drink?”
“I’ll take a soju please,” Yixing replied.
“You want a negroni again?” she chuckled. “Or are you going to try for something lighter?”
“What’s a negroni?” Yixing inquired innocently.
“Nothing, sweetheart,” Hyelim replied.
“I’ll go for something lighter. A margarita should be fine,” he replied almost shyly. It was one of the first times Yixing had ever seen Luhan remotely embarrassed about anything. Yixing didn’t have very long to contemplate the source of Luhan’s embarrassment before a distraction sat down next to him.
“Hello lovelies,” came the musical voice belonging to the maroon-haired linguistics major. “How are you doing this fine evening?”
“We’re fine. It’s jus the usual visit. And how have you been?” Yixing replied politely.
“Just the same old, same old. Channie is begging on his knees, not like that in the literal sense, but we’re agreeing to just be friends with benefits,” Baekhyun replied simply.
“Why would he be on his knees in the literal sense?” Yixing asked innocently. Baekhyun laughed before realising that the other was serious.
“Never you worry your pretty little head doll, it was a joke.” Yixing furrowed his brow but in the end decided to drop it. “Just know that I’m single now,” he finished with a wink. “Oh but then again, you’re with tall dark and handsome Just know that you can hit me up for anything whenever you want.”
“My god Baek, you’re the worst flirt I’ve ever seen, Jongdae aside,” Hyelim commented from behind the bar.
“I try my best,” he replied with a grin. “I’ll be singing soon, any requests or am I just going to be choosing randomly as per usual? I’m even willing to do some SNSD, just no dancing.”
“You’re such a fanboy,” Hyelim commented, not without fondness in her voice.
“I like their songs,” he protested, puffing his cheeks out.
“I really like Wonder Girls,” Yixing replied with a dimpled smile.
“You’re such a doll,” Baekhyun commented affectionately.
“How so?” Yixing wondered obliviously. Baekhyun merely replied with a mysterious smile.
“Got a request for wonder girls, anyone else?”
“I want to hear “I Got a Boy’,” came a familiar voice as its owner latched onto Yixing’s back.
“Good evening Jongdae,” Yixing greeted politely.
“Hey there Yixing! How are you doing tonight?” he chirped. “You here to see me again tonight? Jongin isn’t here, you know.”
“I was going to say hello if I saw you and you weren’t busy,” he replied with a smile that could kill. Hyelim laughed quietly as the rest of the boys swooned inwardly.
“It’s nothing sweetie,” she replied to Yixing’s questioning look.
“This isn’t nothing!” Jongdae proclaimed dramatically as he squished Yixing in a hug. Luhan just rolled his eyes as he watched Yixing try to wriggle out of Jongdae’s grip.
“You should really think of performing here for work,” Baekhyun suggested casually.
“It’s fun and you’d be able to see us all the time. You’d even get paid to come here,” Jongdae urged.
“I already come here all the time,” Yixing chuckled.
“That’s why I added the second part,” Jongdae insisted. “You’ll get paid and we can see you all the time. Minnie, Myunie, Yeol, Baek, Jonginnie, they’d all be ecstatic,” he counted off on his fingers. “You too Hannie! You two can do duets with Baekaboo and Yeolie,” Jongdae continued.
“Sounds like fun,” Yixing laughed. “Shall we try it?” he asked the other Chinese boy.
“I’m not really a performer, although I’m perfectly okay with just watching.”
“That’s not true. You have a good singing voice and you sing well for accompaniment.” Luhan’s cheeks tinted at the compliment.
“I’m sure you have a lovely voice, dear,” Hyelim put in. “You can always just try it and if you don’t like it, no harm done.”
“If you guys give me your numbers, I can pass them on to the manager,” Jongdae offered.
“Sure, thanks.” Yixing grinned.
“How about I take your number to the manager? Odds are that Jongdae will just take your number and text you at obscene hours,” Baekhyun suggested.
“I don’t mind,” Yixing replied innocently. “If you wanted my number, all you’d have to have done is asked.”
“Why don’t we just do a number exchange then?” Jongdae suggested.
“Sure,” Yixing agreed.
